Discussion thread for those investigating the village massacre
« on: January 26, 2009, 10:47:24 pm »
//// Unless advised to do otherwise, let's assume the discussion in this thread starts sometime shortly after Jaelle has recovered from the ritual, perhaps in a camp the group makes on their way to another destination. ////

"Mm. Let's consider everything we know up to this point."

**Steel regards each, Sala, Kyle, Jako, Argali, Jaelle, in turn.**

Jaelle, still a little unsteady on her feet, is sitting listening to the discussion. At Argali's words she nods.

"Yes, we have the dagger," as she pats her bag. "But I can't scry again today, and for this I will need better facilities."

Jaelle seems to consider things as they discuss the situation, then speaks up again. "Blackford would do well. I have a friend who should be able to get the scrying room there."

She looks around at each of those present in the little village, then turns to Steel and Sala. "If you two wish to assist again ..." She waits for their assent or dissent before replying.

"I'll speak to my companion and we'll work something out. I'll contact you when the arrangements are made."

"So we are to travel to Blackford and wait for you?"

Steel looks at Jaelle, head on a slight tilt to the side.

"And of course we'll aid you."

She gives Steel a long, steady look before replying. "The arrangements may take a little while to make. Dangerous scrying attempts should not be rushed, even when time is precious and the need is pressing. If you wish to help, you may wait in Blackford, or wait somewhere that you can get to Blackford quickly and tell me where you'll be so I can let you know."

She pauses for a moment, then adds, "My travel time once the arrangements are made won't be a limiting factor."

"I will travel to Blackford, then. Perhaps I can summon help of my own."

Steel looks to the others before preparing himself for the journey.

Jaelle nods in return, but catches him before he leaves.

"Steel ... if you're bringing in help, let me know who it is, please. The balance of a scrying circle can be delicate, and much of it is based on the ability of the casters to work cooperatively. Not all of them can."

Identical letters are sent to several addresses: The Leringard Arms, the Angels Guildhouse in Hempstead, and one or two more letters to private residences. Each letter is bound with a crimson seal imprinted with a scribing rune. Inside, the script is neat and elegant, and written in shimmering indigo ink.

[Appropriate address],

The arrangements have been made. All is at the ready, or will be soon. We will be working in the scrying room in Blackford Castle, as planned. This room will support our effort and also affords us more protection, but scrying is still a dangerous endeavor. Please consider carefully whether you wish to be a part of it.

If you still want to help, meet outside the castle's entrance on this date, ready to work. Dress in proper robes if you have them, appropriate gloves or handwear, and consider even your jewelry choice mindfully. If you do not own a set of proper robes, consider borrowing a pair from someone else. If you have a personal abjuration focus for protection, bring it. Otherwise, you need not trouble yourself with scrying reagents. I will take care of the arrangements.

If you are planning on bringing someone else, let me know so I can plan properly and balance our attempt. Any who help must be able to work cooperatively and follow direction. If you have questions, write to me and I will try to answer them as swiftly as possible.

Regards,
Jaelle Thornwood

(People who attended the previous session and might receive this letter: Kyle Pandorn, Sala Stonehill, Argali Trueaxe, Steel, Lance Stargazer, Jako Stonehill. **Note: Lance, you may need to talk to someone else and see their letter as I'm not sure she'd write to the Toranite!)

Dear Jaelle,

I'll do whatever I can to support your effort.  I hope you will be able have a larger support group, as I fear this scrying may be especially dangerous--a dark elf blade might have truly violent and evil associations.

 Sincerely,
 Sala

Jaelle,

I am not versed in the Al'noth but I do meditate regularly to focus my inner strength. I'm not sure if this will help in anyway and will defer to your expertise in such matters. I will state that I have the desire to seek the cause of the massacre and avenge the village.

Sincerely,
Kyle Pandorn

**In a chance meeting with Lance, Argali broaches the upcoming scrying event. When he replies that he doesn't know about it, Argali makes a slight frown. She states that she will be attending, and they will probably need Lance there as well to help defend them should whatever it is they scry try to reach through the pool and grab them.**

"Who knows," *she adds* "it may be the 'notherr shade." *pointedly, to Lance*

Jaelle,

The missing woman's name is Aylsa Elmspirit.  Angela found her diary and also a cradle that was being made for the new baby.  Alantha scried using the diary and found about the same thing you did.  She thinks the knife should be examined closely for magic and also suggests scrying using the cradle.  I invited her, Angela and Storold to the Blackford scrying.  I hope that's okay.

**Lance return the look to Argali at the mention of the shade, *

I'll gladly help, Haartwarden, as usual whatever caused those deaths should be taking in consideration, and investigate. Probably the letter got lost over the delivery. and good to you has said me.

And if another shade shows, We might strike as the last one dared to show around *grinning at her *

After the scrying event, a sketch circulates through the group depicting a rearing, horned equine.  Connor explains this was in black relief on a black metal plate on the gate of some residential compound, likely a Dark Elf house.

He inquires with Alantha and asks if it's one she recognizes or if she knows where it might be found.

*Argali frowns when she sees the sketch, looking somewhat confused.*

*Alantha does, before making her way back to hempstead tell what she knows, whether or not people are listening, she is talking to the ones that are. She has a somewhat troubled look on her face, or maybe it is just fatigue from the scrying?*

- The Vin'larie are mythical creatures in dark elven lore, they are said to be real though. However real or not, I am more concerned with what the Vin'larie also represents.
- You all know the dark elves are organized into houses, well the Vin'larie represents the old houses, the first and most poweful houses of the dark elven race.

*Argali frowns in confusion again.*

"Well, zis zo-called mythical crreature spies on us when we visit the Deepening Darrk, and spies on us when the Winged Man tells his tale."

*she makes a small snort in satisfaction*

"Perrhaps it iz only fitting that we should be spying on him."
