Neutral or Evil?
« on: October 28, 2005, 02:42:00 pm »
At the the moment  I am fine with my characters but every time I go on some crazy expedition there's the risk of getting a feared DT. Then I think, what will I do without Gelden? I've been thinking about a character that would be as fun to play as him but diferent, a much darker character (MUAHAHAHAHA!). He would have a tragic past (like friends and family killed by orcs, vilage burned, etc.) and he would be obcesseced with revenge. But I am not sure about his alignment. Here are the reasons:

 Neutral:
 - He does not atack inocents.
 - He helps people when he can win something doing that.

 Evil:
 - He tortures his enemies, spits on their corpses and the like.
 - He fights dirty, using poison and the like.

Please tell me what you thing about this.

Well for one thing, it is against server rules for a character to start out as evil,

and alignment traits depend on what type of neutral or evil you mean.

But obssessed with revenge sound a bit CN to me, (but CN is also a restricted alignment) you should read the alignment sticky in the character submission forum, that might help,

Here it is: http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=3256&posts=7

I know I cannot start as an Evil character, but I would start as Neutral and then go to Evil. And thanks for answering this question. If anyone else could give their opinion, that would be apreciated.

well... you dont just start as one alignment becosue it is the closet to the algnment you seek. like if i say wanted a lawful evil char... i cant make a LE char... so id make a LN char so i can go to LE faster. Well that dosent work, thats not how it works... and thats not how your going to get into evil. you need to learn to RP the alignment you are, there for you would have to learn to play a LN char, rp as LN for a long time, let the GMs see you rping your proper alignment. then... somewhere down the road, when you have been here for some time and proven you can RP responsabley, you can submit to began progression to evil. And if im correct you  just dont chand from LN to LE, it is a slow process that takes much observation for GMs and alot of RP and quests.

Now if you just decide "o screw it, ill rp whatever alignment i want", well, then your char willl likle be deleted or somthing. you can force your way into the evil alignment becouse it is a reward to the few that wish to play it and actually can play it properly.

these are just my thoughts/understanding by the way, could be wrong.

You are right on Logan.
We have had a total of 3 (maybe 4, not sure) evil players here and two of them are still here.  Ask them how long it took them in RL to get there--it is a LONG time.  Not only do you need to prove things as Logan stated but you must also show that you are here to support the community and in no way harm it.  You are here to help grow the world and community and not harm it.  That you are level headed (can control your temper--or learn to over time) and not blow up--because being evil you will be pushed.  I could go on, but I hope that explains things enough.

I think I understand how to get to Evil (I've read your posts and the one about evil characters in the character submission or somewhere else, not sure where it is posted) , but I am not sure if a character with that description should be Evil or Neutral, that's all. Of course,  I have to start as Neutral I'll RP as Neutral and then try to follow the rules to get to Evil (supposing that character is even Evil at all). The first post (from variable) said that it was CN, and that's why I've created this tread in the first place, to know opinions about its alignment. Thanks for your posting, and now that we are talking about Evil in Layonara, being evil doesn't mean you suppport Blood, right?

not all the bad guys are friends, even in this world there are a few that i can think of that are not allies with blood (dont think anyways) and are for shure evil.

So no, being evil do not have to mean your allies with Sinther Bloodstone.

I'll expand on Leanthar's and Logans comments from my experience.
My character, Ramanon Vensk, began over a year ago.  I started TN and had no intention of ever becoming evil.  I am a strong believer that a well made character will develop themself.
Anyway I had expectations to show that Necromancy could be used for the benefit of others, but the funny thing is that everyone began to destest me due to my specialisation in the dark weave and thus I began to become frustrated with them and irritated.  Then one day a person came to Ramanon and bekoned him to meet Chanda and from that point due to her charisma and my hunger for growth I joined their ranks.
Now people believe that Ramanon is evil.  That is not the case.  I am in-fact still TN and thus have to remind myself to play TN, even though it is alot more difficult when everyone hates what I've become.  Regardless perhaps one day Ramanon will become evil, it is the next sensible progression but that has been derived from over a year of quests, CDQ's and then an ECDQ.
So my advice is take time to write a great bio so you really get into you character.  Then put them out in the world and see what happens.  I'm sure you'll enjoy the character much more then, no matter which way they turn.
