RP of food preferences
« on: February 05, 2007, 08:28:13 pm »
I am curious as to how others handle their food preferences in RP.  I have a samurai cleric that from the time he started has eaten only a diet of rice and fish.  My ranger eats mostly food he has hunted, and the occasional pie or other gifted food, but rarely eats purchased rations unless starving.  Do you have any characters with special diets or other RP'd food preferences?

Grok prefers meat, specifically that of things that move. ;)

Pyyran will not eat bear, nor most stews, having been poisoned by a devil who then tortured him, after having last been served bear stew.

I plan on going rice and fish with my Ha'Shani monk.

I made an undertaking several weeks ago to myself that Arkolio would not drink a beverage that was NOT alcoholic and have thus far been able to uphold it admirably! Sometimes it does strike me as ridiculous that he nudges his encumbrance limit because of too much Tower Malt but ... *shrugs, unable to think of what to write after the 'but'*

*Grins.* He should carry Xeenite wine. More charges out of one bottle.

I know one priest of the Prince of Wolves, who has gone a little too 'wolf' and has been eating his meat raw for the last five years.  Funny, he has made a lot of dwarven friends by offering around meat in 'sashimi' form.

When Rhynn was made initially; She would only eat cooked fish and rice. And Though the server does not really provide for it, I try to rp most of her cooking and preperation as Cajun. I just see her home in southern Rilara (That specializes in fish and crawfish/shell fish trade) as a Layo substitute for New Orlens.

With Key I've eventually come to just killing and eating what I need, and then moving on. It's not so much a preference, as it is a tolerable and logical point to come to after carrying too many flints and tinders, starting too many fires, or otherwise spending too much gold on food.

It's free, it's fresh, and she's got the right teeth for it.

With Matilda, it is anything huge. She grew up with farmers, and as such is used to the diet of a farmer's daughter. Rich in meats, veggies, and bread - she'll generally eat anything in front of her.

Zug's not too picky... but in general, he just eats raw meat from animals he's hunted, with the occasional slice of bread for variety.

My Aeridinite cleric, Mirrim, is avegetarian, and so far she has subsisted on dried rations, fruits and nuts. Everyone has been very understanding so far, although I do sometimes feel guilty about eating other people's spell components.

Corba is usually not without an (RP only, sadly) cookie.  Or two.  Or so...maybe a few more than two, these are really good...

I met an orc this weekend who ate pretty much ANYTHING.  Formian legs, snapped off a corpse?  Sucked dry.  Scorpion legs, bug ochre still dripping from them?  He crunched right in.  So descriptive was the player that my husband, also in our group, was sitting next to me in the house going EWWWW and getting squicked in RL.

I think Rakan was there long before Grok discovered the pleasures of ichor! :)

*Chuckles.* Yeah, yeah, but if I find out Rakan has tapeworms, Grok's changing his diet to half-orc. Mmmm, adventurer-meat.

Aziz(the wemic)-can't buy flint or tinder so....raw. He uses every dang part of the deer too.
Xilo- If it has sugar, or alcohol, its food.
Jser- The next time you see him eat something other than dried rations, let me know.

Here, both Kell and Therise mimic their puppeteer - the tastier the food, the greater their preference.  The meals at the Lancer or the Leilon Arms sound lovely, and both my characters will have to arrange to partake of one in the near future.

But bread, fruit, fish fillets, roasts, milk.. all good.  (Tasty, savoury, filling, yum..)

Timulty's somewhat absent-minded when it comes to food - he usually has some dried rations in his pack, which he'll eat if he's in a pinch, but which are really for those cross-Alindor treks, wandering about and poking at things invisibly.  He's not above eating fresh fruit or nuts, but he's more than happy to sit down to a nice meal when the situation (and his food-budget) allows.

Still, given a choice between trekking halfway across a continent for a bowl of stew and grabbing some field rations from his pack.. he'll grab the rations.

Balthazar is about as picky as a garbage can. His diet?
Anything he can get past his nose...

Dur'Thak has a preference for raw foods: fresh deer meat, nuts, berries, etc. For any new item I typically just roll d20 and use the roll as his particular like or dislike. He abhors grapes (rolled a 2) and has recently developed a taste for roasts (rolled a 17) :)

Just keeps things a bit random for fun.

when polymorphed, the Troll form has a taste for Ogre and Giant drumsticks, and the spider form for whatever wanders into the house uninvited :)
