Activity in the Port Hemp Guild District
« on: July 16, 2011, 11:03:39 pm »
The area around the Foundation Guild hall is buzzing with activity.   While always a busy place, there seems to be more activity than is the  norm.  New faces, some looking bewildered and ragged, others grateful  and industrious bustle around the building.

Carts arrive bearing fruits of the recent harvest and adventuring souls  deposit donations of grains and other products withing the halls.
On fine days women can be seen sitting in the open windows, chatting as  hands busily tie bunches of onions into ropes or spinning wheels turn  tufts of fleece into warm wool skeins.  Looms can be heard clacking as  well as the scent of meals being prepared for those working.

Those entering the building would see make shift bunks along the walls  and children darting about under the watchful eye of matrons and teenage  girls alike.

Strong backs arrange supplies and carry barrels and sacks to and from  carts.  Little boys play pirate as they chatter about ships being  loaded.
Some where in the mix the familiar form of Katrien is seen occasionally  but more often as not it is her burly and jovial foreman Henry that is  directing the organized chaos.

A note is sent to the Foundation from the Silver Buckle that additional donations of grains, flours, and other travel-stable foods will be coming from Mariner's Hold in a few months.

Crates and chests are lead by cart to the door of the Foundation in Port Hempstead.  A tall Tilmarian man knocks while a teenage boy who bears a resemblance to the man makes a final tally of the contents.

The younger of the men hands the taller a sheet of parchment.  It is passed to whomever is available to help unload, and the boxes and crates are brought to where they are directed by the Foundation representative.

The tally:

Thirty-five rice grain
Thirty-five wheat grain
Thirty-five oat grain
Thirty-five barley grain
Thirty corn meal
Fifteen rice flour
Fourteen oats meal
Twelve wheat flour
Roasted almonds (twenty)
Dried and sugared blackberries (thirty-five)
Dried and sugared raspberries (thirty-three)
Thirty-two cured and salted haunches of meat
Twenty-three smoked salmon, cured for travel
Five smoked deer jerky
Seven loaves of bread
Thirteen pies; cherry, pecan, blackberry

A notice is left that there will be further donations coming.

Henry, the portly foreman of the guild, steps out to the loading bay to meet the gentleman.  He goes over the manifest politely and thanks him kindly for his generosity.  He gives the young lad one of the better  small wooden whistles the apprentice carvers have been practising on.  When the man leaves a dark haired woman steps out of the shadow of  a doorway, a young boy under her arm.  She exchanges a few words with Henry and he can be seen shaking his head at her and reassuring the boy.

// If your character cares to hear the exchange of words btw the two and is close enough, then PM with their location and maybe they will hear something.

As news spreads of the Silver Buckle Food Not True auction, food starts to trickle, then rush, then flood through donation centers to the Foundation.

After the auction, with more food still due, Andrew spends an entire day with ink pots, quills, and ledger tallying up the response.  He hums, then sings, as the numbers add up...
