Earthquake in Lor
« on: December 20, 2010, 01:49:11 am »
Lor was rocked today by an earthquake that damaged an area of the city.

Residents caught in the earthquake and indeed all over Lor felt the rumbling of the earth. On Councillors lane the ground itself was seen to heave upwards during the earthquake before subsiding leaving the laneway a ruin of cobblestones and rubble.

Several buildings were seriously damaged and there were many injuries, at this stage there seems there were no fatalities but local Militia and able residents are clearing the rubble and searching for anyone caught in the damage.

Both Mayors were at the main point of the earthquake within an hour of the event and helping their citizens and calling for whatever aid could be brought to bear. Several small fires have been contained by fire and water crews as well.

It seems the damage was fairly localised but engineering crews are being assembled to head into the sewers to see what damage has been caused underground by the explosion. Already several sections of the city have been cordoned off due to rising sewerage levels due to collapsed channels in the earthquake's central zone.

*Vrebel comes back to his house in the outskirts of Castle Mask stinking of sewage and cursing as he slams the door shut.

His eyes lighten a bit after an idea comes to him.  He goes around each of the rooms pulling up rugs and looking for loose wood planks as he bangs the head of a maul every so feet along the floor boards of each room seeming looking for something.  He inlists the help of Tralek as well*

The Captain of the Beacons arrives at the scene with a contingent of the Beacon Tower guard and a wagon load of heavy timbers. They head into the sewers to begin the process of shoring up unsafe tunnels to prevent any further collapse. They work with the engineering crews, applying dwarven determination, tunnelling know-how, and more applicable stature to get the sewers flowing again.

Andrew Reid, putting aside his attempt to get supplies for his inn, lends aid to the injured and in general sings to lift spirits while repairs are enacted.
