Fire in the Forest of Fog

Fire destroys a section of the Forest of Fog

A major fire, thought to be of magical origin destroyed a huge area of the Forest of Fog before local druids and rangers were able to bring it under control.  It was  very close to a known temple to Folian S'pae.  Luckily it is reported that none of the clergy were hurt though some of the children using the den did suffer from smoke damage to their breathing before escaping out a back entrance.  Most of the occupants of the temple were not present, being at an pilgrimage to some unknown shrine deeper in the forest.

The bodies of several Dark Elves dressed in Corathian gear were discovered at dead in close proximity to the blaze but unfortunately they were bound and thus could not be held for capture.  Rumors abound that a mysterious artifact was found on one of the bodies before it disappeared.   The body of a heavily tattooed human was also found ravaged by wolves and bears and remains unidentified.  Healers were not able to help the individual and his remains were interred by clergy somewhere close to the fire.

*Stygian taps his forefinger to his lower lip as he contemplates what he is going to write, after a few seconds he begins penning his message*

Oraculum Mortis,

Rumors are circulating that a large fire in the Forest of Fog near a temple of Folian S'pae was successfully contained by druids and rangers. After the fire was put out, the bodies of several Dark Elves dressed in Corathian gear were discovered in close proximity to the blaze. Rumor of some type of artifact found on the bodies is also circulating. The body of a heavily tattooed human was also found, but has not been identified.

*Stygian snaps his fingers and a small red devil from The Pits appears from around a corner, jumps onto the table and sits on it's haunches. Stygian folds the parchment and seals it with black wax and a skull shaped signet ring. The parchment is handed to the small devil, "Take this to the Tower Vereor forthwith. Do not delay." The creature takes the note and immediately disappears from sight.*

*Milo returns to his makeshift home in the Fogs when he catches the whiff of smoke. He raises his brows, looking in the direction of Folian's temple and nudges Lola to accompany him. They both go to see if the fire has settled and to help where they can with the dead, cleaning or investigation.*

*When Jehoram hears about the fire and those involved he first of all laughs at the idea of a group of dark elves trying to pass themselves off as Corathiets. After the humour has faded rage takes its place at this insult to Corath. There will be consequences for this. He sets off to the location of the fire to see what he can find out.*

* Enroute to the Farstrider's Temple on a deeply personal pilgrimage, Caerwyn stops dead in his tracks as he sees the fire's devastation with his own eyes. *

Raising his face to the heavens, he calls out as his despair finds a new low, "Not now, my Prince. Please!"

* Wiping his eyes, he gathers his will and presses on to the Temple. As he finds it undestroyed, he is able to compose himself enough to interview those that were present and those that found what evidence existed; his personal matter set aside for now. *

*A small woman, possibly elven, dressed in red, grimaces as she hears the report.*

She mutters to herself, "Aye, cover up yer ain deaths, why don't ye. Start a fire ye canni control then blame it oan ra dark elves again an' throw in sum Corathite nonsense fur guid measure."

She mutters some unprintable, and largely ununtelligible, oath and continues her journey to who knows where.

*Milo warns other druids that it was hellballs and magic wind that caused the fire. He scowls at the tattooed body and gives it a good kick before going on his way.*

*A creepy man in a tuxedo, feather hat and executioners mask walks up to the outskirts of the forest where a sign stands, marking the Forest of Fog.  Kicking down the sign, he replaces it with another which reads "The Forest of Smoke", snickers and vanishes into invisibly*

Buddy goes with Jehoram to find where this fire was and investigates the matter.

As people come and go at the large section of the forest, a nondescript raven remains perched on a tree from the horizon, watching them and one of the seven fallen individuals. As the individuals vanish, so does the raven fly off to some far distance.

As the events transpire, Ni'haer is spat out of a bindstone somewhere on Mistone and he composes himself, brushing off some dust and grime on his armor. He mutters a few obscure foreign words and makes a few gestures as he vanishes.

This business venture is render null and void. So much for the power of the Left Hand of Black, how embarrassing.

*A grubby little goblin plods along through the charred remains of the woods, tilling the soil with warg-mounted plows and planting little seeds all over the most devastated areas.  Tirelessly he and the wargs, woodland critters and various other goblins continue to replant in the area with fruit-bearing seeds.  They then... fertilize the area, after swallowing many handfuls of the seeds themselves.*

Good good good good!  Tastey trees, yes? Maybe? yes!
