Leringard Arms Destroyed!
« on: November 08, 2009, 07:14:50 pm »
Rumors abound out of Leringard! The well known inn and tavern, the Leringard Arms, and its adjacent card emporium, were completely destroyed in a fire. The building is considered too damaged and structurally unsound to be accessed at this time and the charred structure that remains after the devastating fire has been completely closed to the public.

Thus far it is known that there were some casualties in the fire and that more than one person died from inhaling smoke, though the number and identity of those lost remains unknown at this time. Many of the patrons of the inn were treated for burns.

Plans for rebuilding are unknown at this time. One bystander judged that it was likely the entire structure remaining would have to be completely torn down, and things started fresh.

Thankfully, the fire did not spread to the entire city block, and only a few adjacent homes and structures were burned in the blaze, which was quickly doused by an unseasonably heavy rainshower. A cleric of Mist were seen near the inn shortly after the heavy rains started, but when asked whether he had brought the rains he simply shrugged. Another priestess of the faith claimed that the storm had already been on its way. Whether luck or action from the Misties, all agree the rains and limited damage are good fortune.

*Tod hears the news from different people and he takes the next ship to Leringard to see it for himself. He looks shocked and concerned at seeing the ruins and asks if Steel, Lance and Tyra are okay.*

Returning to Leringard, Argali soon hears the news. There is a brief twinge of dread as the memory of another burning takes her. Flustered, and somewhat ashamed, she makes her way to the Arms to see for herself.

*Tyrian stands with her arms crossed, across the street, looking at the wreckage*

I welcome any and all who need temporary accomidations into The Twin Dragon Inn. If you are in need of food, shelter, a portal to home, or a simple place to sit by the fire simply open the door. Tis always open and always will be.

*points at 137 Leringard, and walks the block tacking up posters offering food and shelter with a tear in her eye remembering all her times enjoying the Arms, and the people she met there*

*she then turns after tacking up posters and goes to ensure that the food stores are full*

Bella approaches the area cautiously lurking in the shadows and trying to be as unnoticed as possible.

Anyone near her might have heard her whisper as she walks away though, sounding very sad and forlorn.

"I ne'er shoulda lef' Harrison there.  I ne'er shoulda loved 'im inna firs' place.  Stupid bear... shoulda knowed better'n gettin' burned up inna fire.  Stupid bear..."

//Brief OOC note, to players who might have had possessions in the Arms:

In an RP sense, yes, very likely your items have been destroyed, but I will not say yes or no to any specific item. In an OOC sense, no, I am not penalizing other players for the actions of a single player that led to the fire. Other players have already been allowed to retrieve their items from the inn, and players with stuff there are encouraged to do so as well.

The inn isn't locked and players with keys can retrieve their items, and play it however they like, ranging from finding an odd item in the ashes to losing everything and having to "replace" it, to having their special papers locked in a metal strongbox that survived the fire or whatever. Maybe they had them stored somewhere else temporarily. Anything reasonable that fits with the idea that a fire destroyed the Arms will be allowed.

Tyra, having been there for the fire, comes up behind Bella and drops something in her lap...

A singed but intact pair of Teddy Bears...

"That's why you leave him on my bed..."  She leans over and pats Bella on the head and walks back to the scene of the fire to retrieve her collection of weapons and a few pairs of armor, all stored, and all metal...

On hearing the news from some passersby at Palden Lake, Zahid travels to Leringard to find out if anyone he knows died in the fire.

*standing outside the arms endra jstustands tehre with her arms crossed for amoment.

"Ah ells.. ooo was de idiot wat left de stove on."

She then tries to sift around for any of her possessions that might have survived the burning. Cursing in gnomish as she digs around and mumbling about the place needing gnomish fire put-er-outers.

*A man in a red velvet long coat paces outside the burned remains, asking questions about the well-being of the inhabitants and their whereabouts, specifically that of the owner and a woman named Jaelle.  Every petitely build woman with pale skin and dark hair causes his head to whip around and his eyes to search their face with naked fear and anticipation.

He plays a large violin to soothe the souls picking through the wreckage of the Arms and the other homes damaged in the fire, entertaining any children he finds with simple magic tricks and cheerful songs, but his eyes never stop scanning the faces around him.

He will speak to the owner of the Arms privately if he can find them.*

*Tralek is heard speaking to some of the patrons at the Inn in Vehl.  He's obviously had a few*

Yeap, we got to the Arms and the whole thing was aflame.  Bunch of thug types were all round the place.  Out there with the thugs was some of the card gaming folk.  Vrebel and I were chatn with the one pretty girl who plays in there alot, when one of the thugs approached us.  He said the fire was under control.  Ha Ha!  Very funny I said, cause it was burnin like all blazes at the time.  He said tell Steel to mind his business and watch who he messes with....or something like that.  We wanted to mess those guys up bad...but we needed to get and try find help.

We tried to get help at the realestate office and at the Temple of Mists, but those folks weren't much help.  The roof caved in on the Arms...it was just too hot.  We returned later and met with Tyillian, and tried to go in, but it was still too smokey and hot.

Now it looks like this is my home boys.  Thanks for havin me.  *gulps some brew down*

[INDENT]She is heard long before she is really seen in one place: the bells chiming at her wrists and, it seems,  even her ankles today; the clinking and jingling of the myriad of keys hanging about her person, all different shapes and sizes making her at some moments a walking tambourine; the music of a passing flute winding through the streets at some times, snatched by a frozen wind at others, and now and again whirling counterpoint around the strains of a young bard's violin; and laughter, the unrestrained sound of it beside the charred remnants of the Arms finally giving her moving presence away from where she had apparently been playing catch-if-catch-can with no one searching for her in the first place.

The humor remains as she talks with this person or that, or winks to the man in the red coat as he entertains children, as if there wasn't truly a destroyed landmark in the city but merely a grand joke played on the bystanders.

She can be seen buying drinks here and there, singing many different kinds of songs that all were heard at one point at the Arms in its time; some not heard since its first opening night, another from the revealing of the Xeenite Red, another from the celebration for the liberation of Xantril-Belinara, the end of the occupation of the islands in the once Rohden alliance, and snatches of countless others... in her own way reminding those that have forgotten of its troubled but full history, and its value to the city.

She is also found here and there getting estimates on materials, still laughing and joking and rolling her eyes, before she leaves for the forest.

Tyra spends the next few days around Leringard's other Inns, as well as the docks, listening for the concerns of the townsfolk regarding the Leringard fire.  She also listens for complaints about Leringard's "city guard," the mercenary group called "Blackwatch."

Conspicuous by his absence, Argali makes a few enquiries as to the whereabouts of the Steward of the Arms.

On hearing of the involvement of thugs, her lip curls and her jaw sets, and she makes a few visits to some of the less reputable places in Leringard to see what she can learn.

**Stepping off the boat from Krashin.. Iradril hears of the fire.**

He quickly goes to see the wreckage for himself.  He is seen walking the streets, talking to local townsfolk, trying to determine whether or not Kali was inside when the fire broke out.  Not getting any answers, he quickly summons Smane and has her seek out Steel in hopes that they could talk soon.

Once the news reaches Amanda she quickly makes her way to the Arms.  She
arrives and wraps a scarf around her nose and mouth. Then tries to make her
way in the rubble.  She digs her way through what is left of the front door and
into the first room on the left.  Inside she quickly picks through what is left of
her brothers room and takes anything that she can find.

Zahid travels to the Twin Dragon Inn and talks with Tyrian there. In the passing days he talks to any refugees who come to the Twin Dragon offering them Will-O-Whiskey, Tower Malt Liquor, some wheat bread, or some apple pie. He works to make sure people are comfortable, and asks if they know any injured or burned in the fire, offering his services as a healer.

He also offers his services as a listener, letting those who lost things in the fire to tell him their woes, or to just talk to keep their minds off things.

If there are any displaced card players there he offers them a match to keep their minds off of losing their building as well.

He is often seen fussing with the jukebox, pulling random levers and expending true after true, playing the requests of the refugees.

He makes his rounds until he can no longer, then naps for a couple hours on one of the fainting couches by the fire before waking up to start again.

A black raven soars across Leringard, watching the Leringard Arms at it remains in a derelict state. Its eyes flash red in a split-second and it flies off.

Making her way from the docks towards The Arms, Hedessa studies many men and women on her way.  She makes a mental note of any who may be in need of consoling before continuing on to look upon the rubble.

Seeing the remains of The Arms, Essa shakes her head and sighs, muttering softly "Dandy, I'm guessing I ain't the queen any longer." Turning quickly, she wipes a tear forming in her eye and composes herself before returning to any she may have noticed on her way that were in need of a friend.

Benjamin is not seen or heard as he skulks the old familiar alleyways and rooftops in Leringard eavesdropping on the Blackwatch, merchants, and townsfolk seeking information on the whereabouts of Steel and what happened the night the Arms was burnt down.  If confronted at any time, he will not fight but use his minor spells to disappear and flee.  If he should find Steel, he will offer to go with him to Castle Blackford.
