Thought for Food?
« on: October 20, 2014, 11:54:02 pm »
Rumors are beginning to circulate around the small town of Ridgecrest in the foothills of the Ire Mountains. Rangers report that the Gnoll tribes are consolidating into larger groups and are not venturing out into smaller raiding parties, which is usually seen this time of year. They seem to be maintaining defensive postures in their communities.Local officials have also responded to several reports of homesteads with murdered or missing families. The bodies of the slain all had their cranial cavities opened and were missing their brains. Authorities are asking for assistance in investigating these crimes. //This is a static quest and it has been placed in-game. Feel free to use this thread for RP/Forum posts. Significant posting will also be rewarded at the conclusion of the quest. Use caution, it  can be a tough one depending on the party mix and levels. The soul mother is active and a balanced group is advised. Rewards have been placed as well. Good luck! PS - DO NOT sneak in invisibly and steal the quest rewards. You will be punished if you do so in a creative and not-so pleasant manner. At the conclusion of the quest, please PM me and let me know what loot you found to confirm fair play.-Rave

"Saving gnolls, saving Ridgecrest, saving homesteaders, destroying cranium stealing monsters.....sounds like they need a specialist in on this one." Vincent Coste muses over the issue posting a poster at the Bull's Eye at Center - Specialist available for the job od specialist slaying in the region of Ridgecrest, seeking like minded individuals to take care of business there. " He pulls up a chair and sits reading awaiting results.

Ryubi and Corky considered
« Reply #2 on: October 22, 2014, 11:33:43 am »

Ryubi and Corky considered themselves armed and dangerous, and indeed soon Vincent Coste agreed with them. All three of them had heard of the recdent rumours out of the Ire Mountains. The mountains of course held many terrible tales but thats for another day, today it was cranium snatching monsters and gruesome Gnolls. The three prepared for a long journey and thats what thye had for they explored the mountains far and wide before descending into some of the spider caves that dot the mountains. \\imagine their surprise when they ran headlong into the biggest stone creature they had ever seen. No really imagine, to meet in the confines of a narrow stairway, wizard to the front, hardly able to turn let alone target spells.  Eventually as they ended a game of musical stairs, Vincent was laid low and the gnomes ran for larger caverns to fight in. The battle was heroically won and after gathering more supplies at distant Center they returned once again to go deeper into the caves.

All manner of foes were professionally dispatched with specialist spells and arcing arrows. Eventually they confronted the source of the trouble a Master cranium remover and his gang of mind boggling and mind bending associates. I would be lying if I said the specialist won through with delivering spells on time and on location alone. No in truth the Gnomes Ryubi and Corky covered themselves in glory too. Avoiding traps and tricks Vincent and  the Gnomes gathered up the treasure and were gone as fast as hasted legs would carry them.

//Great fun, full of surprises as someone had spooked the creatures already, we explored a good bit before finding the right spot and did so cautiously wondering what was ahead all the time. This formula creates great exploring dare I say like the good ol days when you first opened the box!

*Corky sits at the bar at the Bulls Eye with a rag-tag group of bar regulars listening in as he tells his tale.  Corky pulls out his Mandolin and strums a few strings as he pauses between segments to add flavor and suspence to the epic story of cranium dispatchment adventure.  The scene is set as Vincent, the greatest caster in Layonara, and Ryubi, the Forever Optimist, set out on their mission.  Stories of Primal Earth Elementals only seen in the depths of darkness and lizard-like demon beasts never reported to even exist in this world.  Theories abound as to why Gnoll and flayer and Hulk would collude.  Embelishment here and a bit of stretching there, Corky's story goes on as the free shots keep coming from a very entertained bartender.  A macabre ending to the tale and the lair is found and the bodies of all form of life lay on the ground intact, well except for the tops of their skulls being missing and said contents thereof.*

//Great one Rave and thanks to Ry n Vin for the trip.  Please keep these coming..they're great!!!

Word soon begins to spread
« Reply #4 on: October 22, 2014, 05:14:18 pm »

Word soon begins to spread that an incursion of denizen’s from The Deep were discovered in a large cave complex in the Ire Mountains. Adventurers put them to the sword with great effort. Evidence suggested that the monsters were culling the local Gnoll tribes for thralls and food, and the occasional homesteaders they came across in the dark of the night were only chance victims.

Rangers from Ridgecrest were subsequently dispatched to the caves and sealed the newfound entries to the deeper and darker bowls of Layonara to prevent further entry to the surface.

//Glad you had a good time. A PM will be forthcoming with an additional IC bonus you may use in your character development and RP…

Vincent looks slightly
« Reply #5 on: October 22, 2014, 06:11:57 pm »

Vincent looks slightly uncomfortable propping up the bar but watches intently as Corky, between story telling and mandolin strumming seems to acquire a large quantity of drink. Vincent decides to take his share of embellishment. "Well there we were, torn, worn and to all intents doomed to a terrible end deep in the caves that rose up from deep below where man, *shrugs* and even gnomes ought not to be..out popped a flayer  - the right spell released, the specialist spell. *waves an expansive hand* and I have seen such terrible things, I have been*he pauses* such strange places, so I should know, slam the flayer falls.

We thought right there we were done, success...oh but such horror waited further below. It seems we had but started."

Fortunately before he can go on drink is put in front of him, whether to stop him speaking or as reward for his story, like Corky's music we might never be sure!

*Ryubi hops on a barstool
« Reply #6 on: October 22, 2014, 08:14:57 pm »

*Ryubi hops on a barstool close to Corky so he can have clear access to the free shots flowing.  He chimes in here and there adding bits and pieces while trying to balance shot glasses on his head.  Tales are also told of an elite ranger core hidden in the Ire mountains, the Ridgecrest Rangers, that now owe a certain debt of gratitude to the three for restoring balance to their Mountain ranges.  Ry gives word that he intends to visit the rangers as soon as he sobers up to help them find any lost rangers or citizens.  An elite mission that was suited well for this elite bunch of travelers.*

//Thanks Ravemore!  Excellent quest that had us on the edge of our seats the whole crawl.  Mount up lets do it again!
