Voltrex Reeling from Eruptions
« on: May 31, 2011, 07:09:22 pm »
More and more of the skies across the world are filled with dust and debris, soot and ash from the numerous volcanos erupting in various parts of the world and the mountains of the Molten Isles spewing much of the great coulds of noxious vapours into the air over Layonara.

Already Priests and servants of Pyrtechon have come forth to claim responsibility for the volcano's claiming it as a sign of the Great Dragon God's impending return to mortal form to blanket the world with fire and chaos.

In the midst of the wars raging in Belinara, the uncertainty of the future of nations who have lost hundreds if not thousands of lives in the war against the Cult and the cold certainty that its not over yet comes this message.

It arrives in Blackford Castle, to Castle Hilm, to most of the civilised nations around the world and purportedly comes from the Aesmil Isim, or the Council of Elves on the nation of Voltrex.

"Relevant introductions....

Let it be known, that in a historic sitting of the Aesmil Isim, under guidance of the Iselian and witnessed by the Speakers of the Five Towers. By Isim Eliwanilae or in your terms, unanimous decree, we have declared a state of emergency within Voltrex.

Any and all attempts by those outside our realm to return or gain entry to our lands is now expressly forbidden pending future deliberations of the Aesmil Isim and determinations of the threats to our lands and those of our people.

A state of natural unrest has destroyed much of the forests to the north and upheavals have created a new landmass of cooling magma. A land of black jagged stone, fiery pits of lava and unstable earth.

The people of Voltrex will brook no interference as we try to recover and determine the extent of the damage and loss of life over the next few years.

We ask that all nations of this world respect our wishes in this matter."

Within days of the announcement rumours spread of several ships heading to trade with the Elven nation just prior to the eruptions have been intercepted by Elven ships of war and sent back to their respective home ports.

CLaims are that the entire northern region of the country is engulfed in black roiling clouds and thunderous lightning storms. Sudden winds gust over the oceans whipping waves into frothy tipped peaks and still fiery balls of fire are thrown hundreds of miles into the air from the ongoing eruptions.

One ship that was anchored off port waiting for permission to unload noticed that elven soldiers were mobilising in the nation as well before they were ordered to leave Voltrexian waters.

The situation appears grave indeed.

And a song to a somewhat familiar tune starts being played in taverns worldwide once more. Again with different lyrics than the last time....

Weeks later and more reports from ships braving the north passage around Voltrex to try and see what had occured have filtered through to other lands.

Black skies full of ash and dust still roil to the north of Voltrex where vast stretches of the lush forests that once graced the northern shores have either been obliterated or are vast arrays of burnt and blackened trees. What is most amazing is the reports of a new landmass having formed like a scar on the northern edge of Voltrex from the huge volumes of lava that rose from the ocean floor through volcanic vents and cooled into the landmass.

The newly formed land is large and bulbous with many hissing vents of escaping gases and slowly bubbling lava.

One story indicates in the devastated forests near the north shore a large elven encampment has sprung up with flags and banners from all of the Towers but most prevalent is that of the Water Tower followers.

IN the same report its indicated that large units of elven soldiers are moving through the ruined landscape as well and that at one point it appears the Elves are setting up huge defensive barricades. What for cannot be determined. Any foreign ship drawing too close to the coastline finds itself intercepted and driven away by the beautiful but deadly elven ships that patrol the seas there.

Two years gone and occassionally there are rumours from the Elven Isles of difficulties in the North of the country but none so certain as the last few that have somehow slipped through the strict border securities of the Elves of Voltrex. Some say the source of the news was not from Voltrex but carried through the Deeper darker regions within the world itself.

It seems the Azzattans have also confirmed the rumours which suggest that Voltrex is facing a threat to its very livlihood from a large contingent of Dark Elf Houses led by a man said to be the very physical transition of Baraeon Ca'Duz himself. Over the last two years since the world heaved and twisted setting off many volcano's around the place the Dark Elves have established themselves within striking distance of the Elven nation and have during such time mounted a number of forays.

The Elves have established defensive lines and had thus far thrown back with impunity all of the Dark Elves attacks. Until recently when a seemingly more coordinated attack overran an Elven defensive position and also captured an Elven warship. The Dark Elves killed the crew and took its captain captive. Wavemistress Eliena Martoiel was a seasononed veteran of the Elven navy and her ship was no easy target and yet somehow the Dark Elves took it.

The Elves reclaimed the outpost and killed every Dark Elf they could find but the damage had been done, they had lost one of their beloved ships and its Wavesmistress and crew.

Many elves around the rest of the world are beginning to wonder if they should try to return to their original homeland while those who have never seen the shores of the Elven Lands say prayers for their brothers and sisters in facing their challenges, and... others say the elves turned their backs on the rest of the world and deserve everything they get.

"Oh, those proud Voltrexians."

Steel leans over a tankard of Black Knight, elbow on the bar, speaking to the gathered patrons, enjoying the moment of gossip.

"When the rest of the world needs help, how quick they are to refuse their mighty spells and speedy warships. How slow they are to act when people die by the thousands. And now, the continental fortress in which they have spent so many decades looking down their noses at the rest of the world is threatened by their most ancient enemy-- who ironically is of the same ancestry."

He enjoys a long pull of the malt.

"I know, I know. They're too proud to even consider asking for help until they are on the brink of destruction. Which may be closer than they realize. I'll tell you a little secret. I hear that the dark elves have a dragon helping them. I know! Dragons everywhere these days. Not like when Bloodstone was around, Corath torture his soul."

Chuckles show a few pointed teeth.

"You know what I haven't heard, though? Not a single offering of help from any other kingdom. If such an impressive invasion of dark elves appeared in Trelanian borders, half a dozen other kingdoms would offer troops and resources to close the hole in the earth. But Voltrex? Their snobbery has doomed them to a distinct lack of allies."
