Leather helmets?

So, I was told the other day that Druid's aren't supposed to wear helmets because they are metal.

This I read before creation, and understood... but then I got this "Helmet of Armour I" as a quest item. Clearly a metal helm. So to abide by the Druidic code, I just didn't wear it (it looks silly anyways). Then I was shown that all items can be customized...

Which is wicked, by the way.

So I thought, hey, I'll just make this helm look not metal... then at least I can use the magical abilities of a helm that seems to be permanently glued to my character.

I'm curious to know why this is a problem (especially because it's a quest item that I can't seem to get rid of). I like my deer helm, they look neat... I still wana wear one.

I mean, maybe tailors can make them... but I haven't really got that deep into the game yet to know what kind of craftables are out there. Although I haven't even seen a basic leather helm at the vendors, so... I just assumed that there aren't any.

There's a leather hood and a cloth hood, which can be customized and not violate druidic oaths.  Knowing that we have limited options in NWN, I'm not going to say you shouldn't make it look like a helmet (because I can see the justification for the ones with antlers, but don't make them look metal in any way, if possible.

Regarding the Helmet of Armor, the Barkskin it produces is easily surpassed by a Druid casting it, so it's a pretty worthless item for a druid to have. If you'd like it removed, feel free to ask a GM to do so.

One of the challenges one has to face in playing a druid.

It could be worse.

You could be a dark elf.
