A Single Event has no facility for entering the time of the event. Thus, it appears on the wrong Calendar day for people in extremely different timezones to yourself - don't use this.
A Ranged Event does have the facility for entering the time of the event - use this one. It will do the timezone conversion for everyone as long as the Time Zone field is set to your (local) timezone.
If you are brave enough to use the Set Time field, rather than the Choose Time field, be sure to put the time in 24 hour format, otherwise the times are going to be 12 hours wrong.
If (if!) you tick the "Maintain same time by ignoring DST(1)" box (don't), be sure to put the non-DST time into the Choose Time/Set Time fields. Otherwise, all the people who aren't on DST at the same time you are will arrive an hour late. You just have to remember that you've put in a non-DST time... Yeah, don't use this.
To win the confidence of the people you are trying to attract, be sure to include the time of the event (as text) in the actual Calendar posting, so they can check the time you intended to put in against the time that you've actually scheduled, and see that you know what you are doing/point out the discrepancy between the two times. Make sure this time is in GMT! You may know how to convert your local time to GMT (you should), but I don't.
To be triply checked sure, paste a
Time And Date link into the Calendar as well. Its no fun when you turn up at the wrong time for the start of the event.
Hope this helps.

Script Wrecked.
(1) DST is Daylight Savings Time, also known as Summer Time, viz, when you "put the clocks forward an hour" so you can enjoy an extra hour of sunshine at the end of your day.
