saving throws and success/failure
« on: February 11, 2008, 07:00:39 am »
Quick question, is a 1 always a failure on a saving throw? Or if it's dc 14 with say, +14 on the save, is one immune?

For PC characters, 1 does not equal automatic failure. So, yes, by your example you'd be immune.

Is this because it isn't on DnD hardcore or something else?

Exactly, the server doesn't run on hardcore settings. Thus the autofailure feature has been turned off.

Rolling a 20 on saving throws equals autosuccess always. The .ini command is only for failure, not success.

So no matter what you do, on a twenty, you always succeed. Same goes for attack rolls, yes. A twenty on an attack roll equals autohit.

This also goes the same way for NPC's. No matter the DC, a NPC always succeed on a 20.

the same goes for NPC's if their save is high enough to beat the dc when rolling a 1 they are immune

If the roll is at the request of a GM it's up to the GM's discretion by the way.
