Summons for Grannoch

The summons for Grannoch include the self-killing water elementals, if LORE is correct.  I see Mist now has air elementals so I am wondering if there may be some leniency in the summons for Grannoch.

Would it be possible for Grannoch clerics to choose a deity with summons more inline with their focus (Pyrtechon for fire, Dorand for earth, Mist for air, Shindelaria for water)?  I assume that this would work ingame by the player putting in the appropriate deity, using a censor, then having the field modified.

I liked Grannoch but I'm not skilled enough to avoid self-killing by drowning.  That doesn't sound like fun.

Thing is, that would also affect how other spells work or not, because of the deity relation system.

By the way...

You can always use deathward, as it protects again the mutiny attempt from the water elementals. :)

@EdTheKet - I figured after using the arcane censor that the PC would then have their deity changed back to Grannoch, thus keeping the custom summons but still having the proper deity.  Is it not that simple?

@Weeblie - Yes, I heard about deathward on IRC.  I'll keep that in mind if I ever see one of those nasties about.  :-)

When did deathward start saving people from drowning?

I guess it has to do with Death Ward protecting against instant death spells, and drowning being classified as such. Kind of why it worked against Weird also before (or... didn't it?).

Edit: As a clarification... this particular log is from 2006. :p

.... I think that's a bug... but hey, seems like it works out for the caster. I've never seen deathward work against drowning before. (really, I don't think it should)

I don't think it should work either, just like I don't think the Negative Energy Protection should protect against ability score decreases from poison and the like. :(

Plus the arcane censor wont work for a Cleric will it?  I understood it to be a device for Mages and Sorcs and bards to get the same benefits a cleric does for their summonds and GFX of spells.

Yeah, well a lot of things don't work in NWN the way they probably should, but we work with them because in some cases, working around them is far more trouble than it's worth.  So let's not clutter this thread with perceived bugs and whether or not it needs to be fixed, please. :)

Regarding the Censer:  It only matters for arcane casters (wizards, sorcerers and bards) because clerics are already automatically aligned with their deity.  As far as the supposition of being able to pick one deity, use the Censer and then go back to Grannoch...that won't work.  The Censer just sets a flag and if that flag is present, it checks the character's deity field for which deity to use.

In terms of development, this would require the creation of a new system, and the likelihood that any new systems will be created at this point is pretty slim.
