Trainable oak arrows?
« on: May 20, 2009, 04:23:19 pm »
Description: Out of curiosity, Ben's been testing to see if various arrows can be used to train a bow, when I try any oak shafted arrow I get the message - only mahogany and hickory will hold the enchantment.  Is this by design or an oversight?  I was able to train with maho/hickory on various bows but not yew.

 Location: Guild hall target range
 Verified: yes, in same location

Reproducable: Attempt to train a bow using oak shafted arrows, any type.

It's by design, as a cost-benefit sort of deal.  Basically, since you can add enhancements to arrows, but you can't train enhanced arrows, you have to choose between having a bow with unlimited, but limited ammo, and the versatility of not training only 1 type of ammo, and being able to pick and choose for the situation.

Once ammo is trained, it stays that ammo and I do not think you can change it.

Taken from the v3.2 release notes...

Quote
Unlimited Ammunition Training ΒΆ

    * Instead of shooting arrows, if you train 10,000 of the same type of arrows/bolts/bullets, you will receive Unlimited Ammo for the weapon you train with
    * Training is done by typing /o C train or
    * You must be wielding the ranged weapon you wish to train and the ammunition that you are training for in the proper slot
    * Each training attempts requires an Enchanting Oil, so it's better to save up to 500 then train (since you can now stack up to 500 ammunition)
    * Only Hickory and Mahogany Bolts and Arrows or Light and Serious Bullets can be used.
    * Players must be near a ranged target (the bullseye archery target) to train
    * Your ranged weapon's description gets updated with a count of how many times you have trained a particular ammo
    * Darkfire and Flame Weapon will not work on Unlimited Ammunition ranged weapons
    * It is okay to accidentally train with the wrong ammo, it won't reset your attempts. But basically the first ammo type to get 10,000 training run throughs will give the item property

As you might have noticed, we are doing a lot of work to update LORE. This new ammo system will also be added to LORE and explained in detail.

Question: Will an Arcane Archers Enchant Arrow Bonus (which is automatic to an AA) become part of the unlimted arrow package? Thus when fully trained, if an non - AA uses it, the bonus is already on the arrow?  Or stackable when the bow is used by an AA after its fully trained?

I don't believe AA abilities apply to unlimited bows, because they operate on the ammunition itself.

There's nothing wrong though with an AA having, for example, a Yew bow with standard (consumable) ammo they can enhance, and then an unlimited bow as well.

So I take it that if I train say hikory arrows on a oak bow then decide to use a mahogany one I won't be able to use the trained arrows unless I retrain it all over again with the new bow?

Ok just to make sure I get this right,  You can't train with oak shafts.

But can you train with let say; Silver heads+hick shafts+falcon feather+fire 1d8?

Are silver enchantment applicable on arrows?

If you train a bow with a certain type of arrows, will you be able to retrain the bow with more powerful arrows as the char levels?

Can you add cams and mighty parts on a bow after training with it?  Thanks!

orth will have to answer this, but I think that once a bow is trained, it's trained, and going for different ammo at some other time isn't possible, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

As for things like cams, they should just add the extra properties, which should slide in along side of the "Unlimited Ammo" property, but again, I'm not 100% on that.

No, this would count as silver/hickory/falcon but the fire enhancements would not work or be added to the unlimited ammo.  If we did this I'd have had to made like thousands of more permutations and its partly for balance.

Yes, as are titanium, 10 uses per quiver.  Again this won't apply to unlimited training though.

Yes, each time you achieve 10,000 in any specific arrow it will switch to that type.

Since cams are part of the crafting process, no, a new item is created and the previous ones are destroyed as are any of its training. You should train after its crafted into a compound bow.  Mighty parts are a property application though, so those are okay to place on after/during training.

Umm, no.  I have one, and it won't let you equip any other arrows.  I can't even fish with it.  Bummer.

What would happen if you Ox Pack it?  Does that clear the training you have already done?

Anything that is part of the crafting result will remain when oxing.  Anything that was added afterward (mighty cams, training, etc.) will be erased by the ox pack.
