Layo clock is wrong??
« on: June 20, 2007, 06:44:00 am »
The times showing in the upper right hand corner of the screen are all off by one hour from the correct time.  Is it my computer somehow, or is something wrong?

Are you sure that you got your timezone right?

Your EDT right?, so your time should be 7.25 now, as I post this.

It's actually based directly on your computer's clock, and then just plugs your time in and alters it for the timezone you selected.

For example, I selected EST (automatically apply daylight savings time). So the Layo clock determines that I'm GMT -5, but wait! DST! I'm GMT-4.

Then it displays GMT-7, GMT-4, GMT+-0, and GM+10.

If I had been on Central time, I'd be GMT-6, with DST that's -5.

So the layo clock would go, hey! He's -5! That means that GMT is five hours ahead of his computer clock. SH'BAM! Calculations from the assumed GMT ensue!

Okay, maybe that made sense, maybe not. I need to sleep more often. @.@

I have my options set correctly, and at the bottom of the options page it says:

"All times are GMT -4. The time now is 11:10 AM."
but
Layonara (nwn/sou/hotu-1.68)
Version 3.00.4
 jsClocks(); PDT-> 7:10:15 AM
EDT-> 10:10:15 AM
GMT-> 2:10:15 PM
AEST-> 12:10:15 AM

I just checked my options and while mine are set to my timeszone EST with automatic Daylight Savings management, the clock is an hour off.  In Florida it is currently 11:50am, and layo says its 12:50pm EDT.

.... and for some reason my post's timestamp reads 10:50am

I am in CA. and the time is 2:27pm, the EDT should be 5:27pm and that is what it states.

 I don't know what to say, the clocks are correct as far as I am seeing them. Sorry.

AHa! I just got off work and came home to my main gaming computer, and both the forum clock and posting timestamps are synched up perfectly.  It only goes out of synch when I use my old laptop at work.  That computer though is notorious for the clock going back and forth... so I don't think the time synch problems are inherent to our site's coding.

Instead of "DST always on" you should set it to automatically adjust.

That should fix it, if my hunch is right.

Ok, I think I found the fix to this.  I checked my forum options which already had DST Autoadjust toggled on, but the times were still offset.  I then doubleclicked the little clock at the bottom right of my taskbar to open the clock options of WIndows XP, and found that the automatic DST adjustements were turned off...  I turned it back on, applied the changes and reloaded the forum... And now the Layo Forum clocks, my computer clocks and realtime are finally matching up.

So the solution is: Turn on Auto-DST adjustment for both the forum options AND the Windows clock options.  Should work.
