Legendary or Lucky?

Chicago Bears 24 Arizona Cardinals 23

A game like none before in the history of football on any level - at least any recorded game.

Down 0-20 at the half and 3-23 nearing the end of the third quarter, the Bears came from behind to win it by a point without their offensive unit scoring a touchdown.

So I ask anyone here: Have we witnessed the rise of a legendary team comparable to Lombardi's Packers or the undefeated Dolphins of the early seventies (the last undefeated Super Bowl Champs)?  Or was this merely a large dose of luck, or even complete slop?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

Ylly

Stupid Cardnials.. spent a bagillion dollars on that stupid fancy new stadium and they still suck

as it is.. I support (American) Football over Soccer but that's a regional preference (and hey.. everyone is entitled to their prefrence... even countries)

but ultimatly I'd spend all day rearranging my sock drawer than watch either.

I'm going to go with the team falling apart during the back half of the season.  Seems to be a tradition for them lately, and I have to put my money on Tampa Bay in the NFC, Bruce Gradkowski is a local, just like Rothlesburger, though I can't spell either of their names.  And I truly think this may be the year of the Bengals in the AFC

Who dey!!

As an aside:  I'm really a Washington Redskins/Oakland Raiders fan...but I'm also a realist...both of them ain't the greatest this year

I'm gonna say Legendary just because I'm an optomist. They've got Urlacher leading a pack of the meanest defensive players in the NFL and they know how to have fun. (Articles in both ESNP and SI Magazines attest to that.) If Grosman stays healthy and they manage to get their offense to the point where they can score at least 10 points with them I think they can take out anyone.
Baltimore is obviously good but after their loss to the Panthers (and their two touchdown catches were sheer luck) Ithink their momentum has stopped dead. The Bengals are good as well but after losing to TB (a loss that shouldn't have happened) I'm beginning to doubt whether (A) Their heads have gotten too big or (B) If they are a clutch team that can pull out wins under pressure (doubtful). Panthers at 4-2 could still make a run for it, especially with Peppers being the uber monster that he is and Smith, Keyshawn and Williams as healthy as they are. Problem is if one of their offensive machines gets hurt (a reciever, Mr. Dellhome, or Williams now that he's got no backup RB) they'll be in deep doo-doo. And Peppers carried the Panthers against teams like Cleveland so staying healthy is key to their winning.
Obviously New England is never to be counted out and to be quite fair, Indie should have had a Superbowl at least two years ago. While Denver is 4-1, I don't think their offense has enough "Bang!" to go with the "Buck" of their defense. New Orleans has the third best record in football right now and being a team that's backed by a lot of passionate fans (especially after the Hurricanes) I have a feeling they'll make some noise toward the end of the season. Last, I think the Chargers could do something assuming LD stays healthy and continues to be the dominant running back that he is. Still, he's gonna be the key to their success if they do manage to get anywhere. Other than that, I don't have much to say. ;)

Still makes me chuckle how you guys put on all that protective gear and helmets just to play Rugby.

Sorry but if I'm going to have 350 pounds of muscle running at me with the intent to squash me flat in the hopes that the ball will make an escape to freedom in the form of one of them picking it up and trampling over anyone who gets in their way to get it to the endzone... yeah, I'm gonna wear pads.

So, the answer, according to ZV is, I think, because people weigh more over here *nods*

I think it has something to do with the conversion from metric.

As someone who lives near Chicago and is witness to all the hype and excitement this is bringing....
  I really don't care.
I'm actually not from here, and I don't get too into professional football anyway. Though I will admit that if they make it through the season in a similar fashion to the first 6 games, I'll be rooting for them to make the playoffs. My life won't be affected either way, however, so since they're winning...

  GO BEARS!

Well I stand by my team, the Broncos (Denver) through good seasons and bad ones. They have a great defense this season but like Zero said, the offense is questionable. If some other team they are playing, like Indy, jumps out to a two touchdown lead, the Broncos will be hard pressed to catch up. That said, I'll be cheering for them regardless. *puts on one of his Broncos hats*  Zero: good analysis of the teams likely to go to the Superbowl. Indy is the only other undefeated team, and I reluctantly concede that their quarterback Peyton Manning will likely complete his career with at least one super bowl ring. Actually, I'm an "anti-fan" of the Colts, along with Dallas, Kansas City, and the New York Giants (because of the other Manning brother) - always glad to see these teams go down, heh.  I'm going to make it a point to watch more rugby though. I've enjoyed what I've seen of the sport. Those guys are tough, but it's human nature to avoid pain and injury. The football gear we use provides the players sufficient protection, in their own minds, to go all out. So my impression is that football is faster paced and harder hitting than rugby. These are elite athletes who are well coached, so in both sports the players know how to do what they're doing, and what the limits are.
My only other comment so far is I'm laughing when I see how popular the "Bah" option is among our community. From experience I know that as both an avid football fan and roleplayer/gamer, I'm in a minority among both groups.
Well, to finish this post on the same note with which I opened it:
  GO BRONCOS!

Heh.  I remember that game.  Can't will 'em all.  =P

Well....the '73 (? - going from memory here) Miami Dolphins did - the only team to be undefeated Super Bowl Champs.  I heard a story that every year when the last undefeated team goes down, those guys get together to celebrate.  *shakes his head* Which is why I wouldn't mind seeing that streak ended.  The Broncos won't do that this year, but the Bears might.  So if Denver doesn't make it to the Super Bowl (which they probably won't), it would be awesome to see the Bears pull it off.

the 72 dolphins do meet and break open a bottle of champagne when the last unbeaten falls and they meet at a club they partially own down here in ft lauderdale
the toast is pretty much the only actual thing done special they simply say to the only unbeaten super bowl champion team and drink and then they go back to dinner

i was at the bar one night when they met a few years ago
nothing fancy just a some guys who like their record is all

Is 'sissy' just an Australian term? I don't want my disdain to be lost in translation!

How about a poll on rugby, the REAL football? The game they play in Heaven!
