Head Thug in Hlint
« on: August 21, 2007, 04:54:33 pm »
I am not sure if this is intended or not but there is an NPC in Hlint named "Head Thug"  He is doing an ok job of hiding behind a building so the guard Captain can't see him but I was just wondering if he might be left over from a quest or if Hlint is just getting a bit seedier.

With a name like that, his parents didn't really give him a lot of career options.

Head Thug - age 7. "But muu-uummm! I don't wanna be a crim! I wanna have a name like one of them adventurers-to-be, Johnny Spellslinger or Betty Quickblade"

"But Thuggy, those are silly names!" lol.

I like the naming schemes we come up with for out characters... noticed a few standard equations we tend to use.

Regular First Name + Adjective & Noun Surname
ie: Bjornigar Ironguts, Rufus Coldfinger, Takarth Blacklung, Brac'ur Fireface, Kobal Bluntaxe etc.

Regular First Name + Noun & Descriptive Verb
ie: Earl Frogstomper, Beasty Headmasher, Exodus Stonecutter, Jennera Creekskipper

Regular First Name + Double-Noun Combo
ie: Oscar Kilnhammer, Caniel Scarlace, Durgen Stormbrow, Argos Axeblade, Willy Catpaw, Acacea Thistletongue

Ominous one-noun metaphor
ie: Steel, Shadow, Ivory, Enoch, Bumblebee

Then there are people who just use one first name
ie: Hrothgar, Twixel, Deagle, Bilkivi

And standard firstname lastname combos not using any nouns
ie: Farros Galdor, Rakish Feiwallen, Kyle Pandorn, Ketibjorn Svaldi

Elves follow the same firstname lastname, but stick an apostrophe in there to mix it up.  Elves really like their punctuation
ie: Lin'da Sul'Kolindo,Caldiir Eo'wyn, Daralith Del'Mar, Synal’dur Hano’del, Sin'Dolin Val'entalith

Then there are the names for exotic dancers.  Every club has at least five girls named one of these...
Destiny, Candy, Angel, Cherry, Raven, Anastasia, Roxy, Houston, Porsche, Crystal & Chastity

So Thuggy better be glad he was never named after one of those!

Aaw....now Emwonk T'noduoy feels left out....his naming scheme wasn't even mentioned in passing... The common words/phrases spelled backwords naming convention.  *grins*

Bumblebee is an onimous metaphor? I always thought it was about the most innocuous character name I had seen. I've always maintained certain theories about the 'badness' of one's characters name and its inverse relationship to how 'bad' the player was in RL.

(That's why I always picture Pen N Popper as a Hell's Angel biker playing Layo on his stolen laptop just before he takes the stage for an acid-fuelled death metal concert.)

Wow! Almost 1,000 posts. Who knew I was such a geek?
PS. That's a rhetorical question.

What could be more ominous than Peanut.  She must be a leather clad biker chick that plays on others peoples laptops while she robs their houses and paints graffiti on the walls.  :)

That actually describes me in RL perfectly.  The last time a Mormon tried to convert me, I told him "sorry, I work for the other guy" and chased him off my lawn screaming in tongues.

I don't care what imaginary god people believe in, just don't wake me up at 9 in the morning on a Saturday to tell me about him... or it's war.

Also, I should point out one misfiling in your naming system, Lonn:

Acacea's in the two-noun last name set, unless "thistle" became an adjective when I wasn't watching.

*puts away his Quill of Nitpicking +12*

Ok well I spent around three or four seconds there before it clicked. That's amazing! Best name! ;)

Darkstorme, if you don't put that quill away one day someone is going to give you a thorough thistling.
