Thats because here paladins also carry the RP luggage and that usually turns a lot of players of. Its not just about being good at bashing things in Layonara, trust me, the life of a paladin here is one that very few can withstand.

As someone who plays a paladin I truly believe they are the most difficult characters to role play correctly.  I still have trouble really trying to bring out what I'd like to see Michaelis as and there are numerous situations where the experiance that may be gained from an adventure is great, but you can not attend because it violates a code you swore.  Personally at this point you may not see Michaelis because unless there's a DM quest he'll probably be at his god's temple praying or role playing somewhere.  The "lets go and hunt some giants" thing he'll probably refuse everytime unless there's a good cause.  He can't do things a simple fighter can because he's bound to a certain set of codes and for many players this can get very frustrating and even sometimes rather boring if they hope to just gain levels and loot - oh and paladins don't just loot and sack every creature they've killed.  If they do they donate a share to their respective temple...but *shrugs* meh...I'm just blabbering now.

I seen you play Michaelis and you have done great.. And for the hunting, there is allways a good reason for hunting I think.. I mean what about the undeads? Souls put to rest.. The giants, well they are a huge threat to velensk and shoufal for example...
You are right about the codes of the paladins, but it's a bit hard to get some levels without hunting at all..

Is that really what you are here for? You looking forward to carving out your character and playing him? Just wondering..

            muaddib,
              Please slow down!
              1)  This is an RP server.  It is not about hunting a lot of undead.  Your approved character is a Paladin and I really hope you can RP it.  Some (quite a few really) of your posts has me concerned that you think hack and slash and RP are nearly the same.  Please prove me wrong. 2)  Use capitalization and punctuation when posting. 3)  When posting please make sure you are posting intelligently and not just posting to post.

Ah, but doesn't a paladin have a duty to destroy evil when he/she encounters it?  That's a big reason that I dual-classed to Champion.  A Champion is supposed to actually seek out evil.  Thus, I have a reason to accompany a group to clear out the Berhagens.  Not that Klaug is all about hack 'n slash.  I find much more enjoyment in RP and crafting.  And don't forget, this IS an RP world.

My difficulty in RPing a paladin comes in two flavors:
1: Finding a good reason to loot.  Paladins are supposed to live meager lives.  But let's face it, you need coins to survive here (ship papers, upgrading weapons/armor, eventually a house (actually should be a stronghold, but I don't think that is available yet  ;) )

2: Interacting with PCs whose deity is either unfriendly toward or an enemy of Toran.  Should I accompany them on a quest?  Should I transact business with them?  Should I talk with them at all?  Probably not, but then I probably would miss out on a lot of what Layonara has to offer.

That said, if I have the wrong idea of what a paladin/champion should be, please tell me.  If I am misguiding future paladins, please delete this post.

And what i mean by hunting alot of undead is i plan to jion Torans Order of the Shining Hand. And i plan to become Undead Slayer/Pally so pretty much any quest that deals with undead Kharl(name of my character) will jion in if he has time.

Just so you know muaddib, Layonara is a very fair place so none of this is meant as an insult and we're not trying to shoot you down or drive you away. Currently, you're coming off as someone who gets the basics of the classes and races and is looking to make a powerful character. I'm sure however that you can RP as all it really is, is taking on the personallity of your character and reacting to situations as your character would. Please take the time to look through some of these links.
The very bottom link is about Paladins and their Oaths. You'll see it is to be taken seriously. The second to the bottom is the Server Rules (just common sense stuff). Next is a list of links to a bunch of different player resources. And the top one will show you what's up with the Stars. Good luck. ZV-
