Development Journals and Discussion / Re: The Path of Logan« on: December 04, 2006, 08:34:59 AM »
When he arrived in Hlint, someone asked of him if he would go and talk to a lycanthrope. This ratman had stolen the taxrecords..
Logan agreed to get the records back and walked through the town, looking for signs of the abomination. When he entered the crafthouse, a man, Johan, asked him to get the pelt of a rat, for his wife... Logan promised to gather such a pelt for the man. A small fellow, Sab, came up to him when he left the crafthouse. A halfling of friendly sort. When Logan asked where he might find the pelt of a rat, Sab showed him to the sewers. They went down, killed the rats that attacked them and Sab skinned one of them. The ratman seemed to be a known problem: the small one wanted to talk to him as well and led Logan deeper into the sewers. The ratman did not allow much talking and attacked them at first sight. A few kicks and thrusts were enough to finish him. And indeed: the taxrecords were there. As he returned them, he was rewarded with 200 gold pieces. //leveled 2

that's my point: MOST dried wood is flammable. but I've made enough fires in my life to know that not ALL woods burn. And for some trees, especially for those that groow in hot, dry areas, where forestfires are not uncommon, bark offers natural protection against fire, simply resisting to burn.
I tried to burn bark once or twice, and it was usually redwood-tree-like bark that wouldened burn. 6

A giant man, fierce and strong,
crossed my path today. Of him I wrote the following song, in which I'd gladly say: Honour to this man, this tree, who helped me, without fee. - Strong as a tree, mighty be, Bog, that was his name. With flail in hand, he came, and smashed a goblin band. Tall as towers, awful powers, Half-Giant was his race. With wooden shield, in iron case, defied what kobolds wield. - With him I helped my fellow bard, who lost her precious ornament. Returned it to her. And she was glad, her eyes clear as the firmament. 8

My bow I carried, shot one down:
the goblins are afoot! To my aid one came, a knight! And with him I did shoot. ~ Goren Harpolis, his name, a soldier, brave and sound. I will tell you of his fame, his prowess, sword and sound: Bravely he strode, clad in silver, with his mighty steel. Onward he strode, his shield in hand, making monsters kneel. Goren, Soldier, Harpolis, Name, Profession, Prophecy. Goren, Mighty, Harpolis, Fame, Profession, Legacy. Again he strode, his weapon drawn, against the lycanthrope. With honor strode the knight once more, and one more there was hope. Goren, Generous, Harpolis, Name, Profession, Prophecy. Goren, Knightly, Harpolis, Fame, Profession, Legacy. ~ 9

all is true, and the leather swords were kind of strange indeed, I just thought I'd mention them.
but, if you would combine the bamboo armor, or leather armor, with patches of bark, it would make the wearer less vulnerable to fire. And even as "we" use wooden shields, why not tie these shields together, so you get some sort of plate mail? wooden plates in stead of metal 10

About the oath, I have no objections to that. Of course woven cloth is just as unnatural as a forged axe, but let's just say woven cloths are allowed for the sake of decency. Just as scimitars are allowed for the sake of protection.
But it was stated that a Druid could wear metal amulets and rings. Why no use golden sickles then? If the only metal instrument a Druid is allowed to use is to be a scimitar, i would suggest introducing wooden or leather amulets and rings. You can carve wood and put a gem in it, so no need for forged metal. Just a suggestion about one of the "replacement"-items for Druid that are going to be implemented. I have just thought of a theory why curvy scimmies are the chosen exeption. Fangs are not entirely straight either. 11

"I will, Master", Logan said as he left the room of the person who once was his master in the Art of Chi. Off to his own chamber to prepare his leave. After his 20 years of training, his master had finally thought him ready. Logan had completed his training, and was now dismissed into the world.
Long had it been since he was send away to the Monastery. His parents, unable to provide him with food, together with his chaotic behavior, had been forced to beg the local monks to accept him, raise and train him as one of their own. They had regonised in him a would-be-worthy master of Chi, and accepted the challenge he posed as a child. The succes of his training was greater than Logan could ever have thought: he had become the opposite of what he once was. A trustworthy man, instead of a liar, a devout to his own path, instead of a free animal. He would now travel, judging and training others, improving his own Way of the Fist and becoming a Master of Chi. Hereafter follows the account of his story and his thoughts. 15

An elf just wandered by,
he asked me, where I came from and this was my reply: "From my mother I did come, a banished drow, so beautiful. She vowed to Xeen, her saviour: 'Thou art immensely merciful, thee, I owe my life and more. My children and myself, I plea, will serve thee for eternity.'" 17

With druids comes a description of what they may and what they may not wear or use.
Metal is prohibited, except for the scimitar, etc... And if I remember, I read something about suggestions welcome... If I may: chitin armor ==> chitin is an insect's natural amor a frenzied stag beetle attacks our druid, empathy fails, druid must kill... as his oath forces him, he "skins" the beetle with his stone knife goes home and works the carapace into armor.. the result is something much like a platemail, only much lighter, and a little less protective (I'd said almost equivalent to breast plate, or splint mail) bark armor ==> bark is a tree's natural armor, some bark types are even highly resistant to fire... instead of metal plates, bands etc, use bark... during my holiday in scotland, I read Mistress of the Empire, a book written by Raymond E. Feist and his wife Janny Wurts. In this book, metal could only be found on another world, but still the warriors of tsuranuanni used swords and shields. These were made of specially treated hide, as strong as iron, but very lightweight... interesting? I hope so regards Llu 18
Development Journals and Discussion / A Short Story (Wind« on: July 04, 2006, 07:34:07 AM »
Windë "Win" Khind arrived in Hlint before the battle of Pranzis. She was shy, wore dark clothes and was accompanied by her best friend Buppi, a pixie. She walked around town asking whether people had seen other brownies. She helped various people in and around Hlint, using stealth and magic. She even travelled all the way to Rilara to deliver several letters for the postmaster.
Many a time she and Buppi slaughtered the Goblins outside of Hlint. This would always make her feel happy. One day when she was helping a band of adventurers, she met with Bumblebee, another brownie. She was overjoyed as she had finally reached the goal she had said for so long: finding another brownie. She immediately became less shy, more confident and started wearing brighter colours. Including flowers. Buppi however left her not long after. His aim had been to protect her untill she had found her kin. As a last token of their friendship he taught her how to go invisible as well as summon a friendly spirit. Soon after she learned to throw balls of fire and create beautiful colours. 19
General Discussion / Concerning druids« on: July 03, 2006, 10:03:06 AM »
i have searched the forums, but was unable to find anything like it.
I just read the Submission topicon "How to Druid". just a few remarks: Druids are restricted to *natural* items only, including stone, wood, cloth, leather etc.butwhat is the difference between aunnaturally cured hide and a unnaturally extracted and shaped blade? Stone is not much unlike metal, it even includes metal. ores can be seen as stone or rock, and require a chemical process, just likeraw skins to be worked with. ok, if the innatural about a copper great sword is that chemical process that was required, sure, but leave out the curing etc. as well. And how about Golden Swords? Gold is a metal that does not react with other metals or nonmetals, and is therefor just as natural as wood. if one finds gold in a river, melts it and shapes it (this proces has1 unnaturalparts) into a weapon, a druid may not use the product. but if someone else has found a cotton plant, harvested it, made thread, wove a cloth and finally made a garment out of it (this proces has3 unnaturalparts), the druid may use the product? please tell me if i just got the messages wrong oh, and no, this is not a request to change what items a druid may use, unless absolutely no one comes up with good reasons concerning the above. regards Llu ps stone sickles? glad i'm not playing a druid, because stone isn't really the best material when it comes to cutting branches, herbs etc. (why not gold or silver? =P) 20
Layonara Server / Inaccurate monster challange ratings.« on: April 30, 2006, 03:02:23 AM »
I don't whether it's a bug, but when entered two lions today, NWN qualified them as moderate. Thus, I should have been able to defeat them; I died rather quickly and gained my first token this way.
Could the challange ratings for monsters be just a little inaccurate? just a question. Llu khanath
