Rhizome's Dragon Unification Proposal
« on: May 30, 2005, 01:00:00 AM »
Rhizome leans against his walking stick, looking out at the crowd of faces that have gathered.  The conversation was started by Plenarius, and was about his newly elevated status as Her Eyes.  After he and Brisbane left, the focus shifted somehow to Rhizome, who began talking about all sorts of Layonara world events.  Eventually Rhizome began to discourse about dragons, laying out a plan that he's been constructing in his mind.
"The dragons are vulneralbe as they are.  The almost certain death of the Green has shown us this.  Also, with the body gone, we can only assume that Bloodstone is taking them back to Xantril and the Demon Mountains to use them for some hidden dark purpose.  This may amplify the negative effects of each dragon death dramatically.  So, something must be done to protect these beasts."
"It would be silly for us to go to the dragons' lairs and lay ourselves out as fodder for Bloodstone's dragon hunting crews to grind up as an appetizer.  Rather, my proposal is this..."  And he rocks his weight back and pauses for drama.  "...I belive we should return to the dragons and speak to them about the situation.  We should convince them that for the sake of the dragon alliance, survival, unity and the fight against Bloodstone, they should move from their current lairs and all take up temporary residence on Firesteep, where Fisterion, the Lord of Dragons, dwells.  There they would be far safer, for their collective strength is far more likely to be able to defend against any dragon raiding parties Bloodstone may send out.  As they are now, they are isolated and can be plucked off one by one."
"To do this, the dragons must fly, of course, and thus be visible.  This will cause a temporary risk, one which I think we should also endeavor to lessen.  Before the dragons fly from their lairs to Firesteep, I propose we directly attack some of Bloodstone's movements in southern Xantril.  This may have some effectiveness in terms of reducing his troops.  But most importantly it will draw attention to the south of Xantril, rather than the flight of dragons to Firesteep."
"What I think we should do is take a fast, yet quiet boat to the southern shores of Xantril.  Then, when the darkness and fog are just right, we slip to the coast and make our way to Blood's encampments north of Arabel.  We attack the camps which we are relatively sure we can handle, and obliterate them.  Then we move back to the south where the boat will meet us at the Arabel docks.  There, before boarding, we destroy the huge troop transport which arrived in Arabel not too long ago.  Credit for this idea should go to Plenarius.  It, of course, has merit on its own, as sucessfully sinking that troop transport will at least buy us some time."
"I ask you to think about this proposal and bring it back to your families and communties for discussion.  Then return and we will talk things over.  Thank you very much for your attention to these issues."
"May Nature's balance bless your path"

I have thought on the issue of the threat to the dragons after the Broken One was killed, and now the Long Storm attacked as well. Your plan is very much to my liking, and I will gladly volunteer to this cause.

Sincerely, Kobal Bluntaxe

I believe it is wise to take advantage of the current fragile unity of the dragons to get them to work together for their common defense.  There is still something in the back of my mind about uniting evil dragons but as has been said before there are forces that balance that threat that cannot be discussed.  I would feel more comfortable if I knew what those forces were but some strategic information must be kept close hold and I understand that.  When the time comes I will lend my skills to whatever strategic plan is developed.

It is a bold endeavor sir but I fear the arrogance and loathing between the chromatic kind will never see them share a home with one another. Not only that they would have to leave their vast hordes behind which they would surely never do for they are tied to it and have built them over hundreds of years. Moreover I fear that the heat of and location of firesteep would not be to the liking of all even for a short time. To some it would be unbearable.

Dragon lore would suggest this is an unprecedented and impossible task you set before yourself.

Impossible?  Maybe.  But that is what many would say of our chances in the war against blood.  Nonetheless I fight, and nonetheless I will help in this endeavor.

*a feary dragon flutters around in the area teasing the gaurds having them chase her around.  As they get closer and closer it nimbly dodges them when finally one sneaks behing it and grabs it, only to his suprise that it dissapears, hearing now a small high pitched chuckle comming from a distance.  Invisible the dragon hears the druids speach and the words of those that both agree and counter his.  The dragon finally shows up infront of the druid and appears before their eyes*

"Hello, man of nature.  I am Lily now last of the mighty greens *the dragon smirks and holds itself high (for a feary dragon) like it really thinks its that grand of a dragon* and I am of servise to Mistress Di'makiir, er... I mean, in saving me I'm in debt, but not in service, I'm my own master of course *once again smirks*.  Our minds are linked, but she does not know that I can block hers, and right now I think it appropriate.  Do not tell master that I betray her trust, so mad she will be, *once again catches itself and quickly replies* not that I would care of course.  You mention helping my bretheren and I know how important it is to her.  It will be hard, yes, to put them together at one place, this I know and I cant help you there.  But, if they do agree, then I know how you can even further distract the evil army."
"Tell my mistress that you plan to attack Xantril, yes, and bluff her, bluff the enemy that this attack has great importance, not to distract but to give us a better front in the war.  They see and hears what she sees and hears, if you convince her good enough and the enemy, then against us they might fight and dragons they don't see.  My mistress is no fool though, dont insult her with petty lies, make it convincing."

*a gaurd shows up and yells*  "Theres that little pest"

*before anyone could even say a word the dragon dissapears and is now gone*

Brac'ar raises his voice a bit.
"Dear Rhiz. What got the Green killed was a party returning from its lair meeting Blood. I know, because I was there, straggling behind from my wound and met Blood in person. I even spoke to him and he asked if we were dealing with dragons."
He shivers a bit at remembering the conversation and surviving.
"What you propose is to put them at more risk by visiting them all to inform them of this plan. As it stands now, Bloodstone is aware that something has been going on between those who oppose him and the dragons, so he will be watching closely, to see if we go to them again. Therefore, I ask you not to go forward with this plan, as it may lead Blood to the other dragon's lairs well before the time we can visit all of them and stage the attack on Xantril."
"Furthermore, Quintayne has a point as well. Firesteep is a volcano. Dragons other than the red would not thrive long in those surroundings, they'd also not be willing to abandon the hoards they've amassed through the years. So even if you manage to reach them without giving Blood a hint of their locations at the same time, I highly doubt they'd be willing to take that risk."

*Tath sips a bit of his white wine before standing and addressing everyone*
"Blood is apparently hunting dragons. He's already got one. It is therefor my opinion that we have a choice to make. Leave the dragons to their doom, which I can assure you will come with or without Blood following us to their lairs. Or struggle like a wounded and cornered animal. Make one last attempt to unite them, or at least stop them from being turned into weapons that can be used against us. Also, who's to say they would all need to amass at Firesteep?"
"Further more it is my opinion that not enough has been done to unite the defenders of this world. Wizards are scattered, many clerics wander, where is the order?"
*Tath chuckles slightly drunk after he's finished talking and sits back down to finish his wine*

Dragons are highly xenophobic and territorial, especially when they are different types.  Confining the last remaining ones in such a restrictive area as one unified cave will only insure that they kill eachother before blood reaches them.  Hoardes make for very poor bunk beds.
