    What's a Good Craft for a Rogue?
    « on: June 01, 2005, 06:40:00 PM »
I am a lvl 5 almost 6 Rogue that wants to learn a trade.  I can fish but I want to work with my hands as well.  right now my stats are as follows:
    Strength 14
    Dexterity 16
    Constitution 12
    Intelligence 13
    Wisdom 10
    Charisma 13
I was thinking about making arrows and bows but I can't use the pick for some reason.  I can use an axe though and kill birds for feathers and dig for clay.  I'm just lost as to know how I can figure out the best craft for Remy Zephyr.  Please help. Thanks.

    I would recommend:

Tinkering, you can easily work with clay and glass. Metals you'll have to get a friend to help you gather.
Wood crafting, you can gather wood as you said and make bows and arrows. This works well with tinkering.
Gemcrafting, you can gather gems on your own and with help from a friend you can get metal for rings.
Tailoring, you can work cotton and skins with no help.
Alchemy is a boost to many trades and can be useful to learn.
Cooking is also quite useful too.

Try out different crafts and see what works for you. You can use a modern tool for your crafting in buying goods from people who can get it for you. That large lumbering ox of a giant may be more thank happy to get a ton of copper for you, and for a fair price at that. But don't think because you may not be able to gather all the parts needed, that you can't attempt a craft. Make it part of your rp, a rouge that makes all sorts of armor because his family before him did would be a reason for it. Just link it to your character and don't let your ability to gather items fro crafting hinder you.

An example of barter trade for crafting is at work with Gulnyr and myself.
My character Pang collects items for Gulnyr to cook, and crafts molds for him to work metal with. He has in return provided me with lessons on tailoring which resulted in an exceptional set of gloves, a nice cloak at a  discount, iron clothes, quite a few arrows for my bow, and more food than I could eat. Plus we get to RP each time we meet about crafting and such, it is a good thing for both of us. He is not just tossing pies or giving them away for nothing, It saves him time from having to craft molds for arrow making and weaponsmithing, and in return I am learning tailoring (slowly) I've equipped my character pretty well at a reasonable cost and I am getting good enogh at tinkering that I'll be able to craft traps soon, at which point I've already got a relationship with Gulnyr who I can get the metal I'm unable to mine to craft craps with.
