The Contest of Arms
« on: March 02, 2006, 01:32:04 PM »
You've noticed throughout the week that these posters have been appearing at almost random throughout Hlint. It your travels about Mistone you're noticing more and more, almost as though they're blossoming from the very inns and merchant halls in which they're placed. It' written in a professional print which were made by a very skillful scribe.      "The CONTEST OF ARMS"

Warriors from all around, you are officially invited to test your mettle against others of your kind and skill in Mistone's first Contest of Arms! Hosted by Key and company at the Fort Velensk Arena, you will be put up against your equals until only one is able to rise above and claim the title as the greatest warrior of Mistone. Who will it be? Are you prepared for such a challenge?  If the honor of knowing you're the best is not enough, each winner of the four divisions will be given three fourths of the entry fees for his division! Even if you're a warrior come and watch the display of skill on the third wednesday of this month, starting at the eighth hour past noon.    Rules, Practices, and Entry

Entry: To enter is simple! Just provide Key with your name, profession, and depth of your ability with your entry fee. You will then be paired with an equal match to begin with, and the winners of each of the beginning matches will then be paired against the most equal of the winners until only one remains in the standings!   Rules and Practices:
The fight begins only when the overseer annouces it, not before. In the case of a spellcaster you must wait until the fight begins to start casting.
Any combatant may end the fight they are currently in for fear of harm, or any other reason. However, this counts as a loss on their part and they are removed from the standings.
Fights are to be kept only within the arena, any assaults outside of a sanctioned fight will result in immediate removal. You will not be refunded your entry fee.
There is only one winner for each division, and all of the winnings go to them. There is no second place when it comes to champions.
Divisions:
The warriors of the land! With years of experience behind them this shall be the gathering of the masters. The entry fee for Division A is 17,500 gold. (levels 17-20 only need apply.)
The next generation of masters! Nearing in skill to the best, these are the soon-to-be masters of their styles and professions. The entry fee for Divison B is 10,000 gold. (levels 13-16 need only apply.)
The professionals! Passing the time when they were but amatures these warriors are moving up in their skill. One day they may yet be the best. The entry fee for Division C is 5,000 gold. (levels 9-12 need only apply.)
The newst flock of warriors! These careful few are beginning their journeys as warriors, and what a better way to start it off than a test of their skill? The entry fee for Divison C is 2,500 gold. (levels 5-8 need only apply.)
Winnings and rewards: Each winner of the respective divisions shall recieve seventy five percent of the entry fees for said division. This reward shall be in gold only, and the winners are free to do whatever they wish with it.   With that said, we are very excited for this. Even if you do not wish to fight, you may still witness the battles for a small ticket price of one hundred gold.

/// OOC \\\\\\

Firstly, I am very excited about this. I wanted to do it months ago, but the Arena was still busted at the time. So let's have a great big thanks to Leanthar, and any others who may have helped him in the reconstruction effort.

For entry just send me a PM with your character's name, class, and level to it. Be sure to have the gold ready before hand. Late entries, while they will be accepted, will be charged a little more out of spite ;) and having to rush and alter the list. Try to have yourself entered before Wednesday the 22nd, which is when this shall happen.

Please post any questions here or in a PM form and I will gladly answer them. I hope everyone has fun with this, and if it works out I hope to host many more.

You're awesome. And thanks for all the effort you put into to fixing up that old junker of an arena.

It's at 8pm EST, 5pm PST, or 4am GMT. I'm sorry about the time there, but I work 3rd shift in the EST and Wednesday is my only day off for a few more weeks. Bleh.

That I haven't even begun to work out yet. I want to see if this idea is even possible, or will get enough interest to be fun for the people who join in. So far I have four people in the roster, granted it's a long ways away, but I'm getting a little worried. :)

I would like to remind everyone to please send your character's name, class, and level with your PM. It doesn't do me any good otherwise. :)

Maybe add a dead magic zone  or a shield around the Arena to protect onlookers from magic Blasts and such.

Super cool. I had been thinking about something like this for a CDQ...

Though this would be perfect to work Character Development into, when I finally get the feats I'll need to go Duelist.

It really sucks, though, that Pyyran's right at the bottom of the second-lowest division.

One question, though... Can multiple characters join? If they're in different divisions, there's no chance of them fighting each other, so...

This is a subject I haven't thought of quite yet, probably because only one of my characters would survive. Heh. I don't know. I'll PM Leanthar and see how he's comfortable with it. Considering it boosts the chance of one players character, regardless of who it is, of being a winner I would have to say no. But if the DMs feel it's all right, I'll go with it.

Only one character per bioware account should join. Not two characters from the same account.

You heard the boss. I'll update that up top...  // Seems I can't. \\\\  - OOC Rules -
Only one character per bioware login or player may join. Only one individual player may win the pot for their charater.
All Layonara rules apply, until you are in the arena. PvP combat is allowed; you're expected and ecouraged to fight. Pacifistic characters need not apply. :)

Well, nuts. I was hoping to have an event I might actually win at. Hah!

Guess I'll need to stock P-man up on super-potions.

And sell like mad to make the FIVE THOUSAND GOLD buy-in.
