Double Login?
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:13:10 PM »
Not sure if this is an issue, but I have seen this a number of times. Multiple PCs appear to be logged in under the same NWN account. In addition, there will be two instances of the same PC in game. Is this a problem?

This is generally a hiccup or a lag in the online list processing.  The Server Status page is not real-time, and it doesn't always properly reflect that a character has logged out.  The information shown may be up to 5 minutes behind. When there's two instances of the same PC generally means for some reason the player/Bioware name didn't get recorded right for whatever reason.  The system isn't perfect, since we really can't integrate them tightly, so little blips like this do occur sometimes.

So no, it's not really a problem.

Also usually when you see two people with the same character name on, it's because that player has polymorphed/shapechanged into another creature.  When that happens, the system sometimes thinks there is actually another player connected, and until the 'tick' fires again, the old unpolymorphed player is considered to be still connected, so you see their name twice.  This can usually be recognized by seeing an "Invalid Race" in the Race field of the Server Status page.

There is the possibility of the ole 'multiple people in the same household' trick.

This lasted until I logged out (about 30 minutes). Apparently during that time, no one could TELL me. Not a big problem, so as long as it is not malicious, then no worries. Thanks.

Huh, I am very well acquainted with the problem. A PC's 'ghost' will bounce from one PC to another. If the 'host' logs out, the 'ghost' will jump to another. Meanwhile, whomever the 'ghost' is attached to will not be able to receive tells.

I don't know if this is what caused it, but at one point while I was still lvl 2, my computer was lagging really badly.  I never had to log out or reboot though, so I don't know what caused the bug, but I was recieving the tells for Alatriel the whole time.

We seem to be having the same problem as yesterday, but today its Aerimor that is the same login instead.  We've configured the computers so that his is 5121 and mine is 5122, but for some reason his keeps switching itself to 5122, so we keep changing it back.  Has anyone else ever had this problem and how do we fix it?  Thanks in advance.

Are you switching the number while in game or the program running?  If so that will switch it back.  Make sure it is closed and switch the ports.  Hope that helps. We had this happen to us.

If all else fails, quit out of NWN, change the port number in the INI file, save, and then set the file to Read Only!

If something is resetting it, this should throw a spanner in its works ;)

I think we've got it fixed.  No, the program wasn't running, but apparently his computer just wants to be 5122, so we switched mine to 5123 and it seems to be ok now... we'll see later when we both log on again, but I do apologize to everyone else who is having to deal with this as well.  I assure you all it is not intentional, just technical difficulties.

If it doesn't, the number have to be close, but not consecutive. We set ours to 5120, 5122 and 5124, I think.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.  My computer doesn't seem to have a problem staying at the number I put it at, just his, and I think as long as we keep his at the number it 'wants' to be at, then we should in theory be ok, but we'll find out later.  We'll be on tonight, so we'll see then.  Thanks for all the help.
