Bags of sand

Could it be possible to use a complete bag of sands into the recipes or at least give the option to split the sand the same way you have the option to split a stack?

When you have a lot of bags to split up to make parchments, it takes a considerable time to make the action for each bits of sand.

If splitting the bits like splitting a stack of potion for example, was available, it would speed up the process and free up the action ques or the chars. Does filling up an action que with 100 time the same action to split the sand, causes lag?

I had to dig a bit to find out which recipe(s) you meant, as you're not specific.  I'm assuming you mean sandpaper, as the other recipes that require sand take full bags.

It would take some refactoring and rebalancing (difficulty, yield, other required ingredients, etc.) of the recipes for the bags to be used instead of the individual bits. The first thing I ask before fixing things like this is: Is it really broken?  I'm not sure it is. Breaking up a bag into bits takes time, yes, but speed of crafting is among the factors in craftng balance. Consider that one bag of sand is enough for several attempts at sandpaper and that quantity can be obtained (potentially) but putting a shovel into the ground a single time.

As I said, I'm not sure it should be fixed, but I'll give it some thought.

Splitting bags of sand like potions are vastly different things, however, because a stack of potions is a stack of potions, whereas a bag of sand is not a stack of bits of sand.  As NWN works, the bag of sand would have to be made stackable, but then you'd still have a stack of bags, and not bits.  Alternatively, digging sand could give a stack of bits rather than a bag, but that introduces other problems, namely a refactoring of recipes that utilize bags of sand and possible conflicts within the CNR harvesting code. It is analogous to loaves of breat or meat roasts, in that one is not separating a stack but actually converting one thing into another. In any case, it's not a simple change, and not likely one we'll look at doing.

As for the action queue and lag...it's no worse than people spamming drinking and eating. The queue causes the actions to be spread out, so they're not all happening at once.

If I remember correctly sand can be gathered in stacks as CNR from patches of sand instead of deposits of sand.  I recall using these to make sand paper with and I think they stack up to 7 high like heal kits.

errr yes sorry

I understand the limitation, and I thank you for your answer. Just trying to figure out something that would be helpful for every one here with that one. Maybe change the setting of 3 bits of sand per sandpaper for a full bag? Knowing the process into making sandpaper.. it takes a lot more than 3 bits of sand to make a sheet ;)

Yes but the patches that you get gives little to nothing at all, compared to what you need.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that does crafting in big batch. Collecting over time to have one good moment of crafting. Due to lack of time to spend online with work, and wanting to play with friends.

The example I can give you is what I did yesterday. I made 35 sand papers to work on some wood weapons. now if you calculate that's 105 bits. To get those through patches is a waste of time really. Patches are fine if you are missing just a couple, but for big batch work.. it is really useless. And to gather them that way clutters the inventory and more stacks = more lag as stated in other discussions.

When someone is learning a trade (like Feh for example) they usually gather a lot to work at once. It's psychological, but people want to see some results. Big batches craft shows result even if you work less often than a bit every day. It is also a matter of time that someone has available to play.

Fixed in next update.

Bags now empty completely for eight bits of sand with one use.  If you have bags with charges left you'll only get a bit per charge remaining.
