Which of These (Self-Portraits) Looks Better?
    « on: September 01, 2005, 04:47:00 pm »
So I have these two pictures, self-taken and such, and I need your help in determining which is generally the better of the two (and why, if possible).

    Thank you, and be honest...

The first one IS nice but the second one has your face tilted a little, showing a synical sort of expression. Its a vague expression but it's more powerful than the first. And the second also has the light in the center of your face taking away the blemishes.

The left one (looking to the side) Makes you look more .. mm dunno just makes you look more disciplined like.. like you are in the military. And makes you look younger imo.

Im with Tordec, the first one looks more..."professional" (for lack of a better word), whereas the second one, while still a good photo, has more of a "myspace" feel to it. So I guess it depends what you want to use the photo for.

No offense to be taken by my comment please.

I like the first one because your nose looks less...well..big.

This is a comment coming from a man with a large nose. :)

Where's the, "I hate them both and you should be ashamed of yourself!" button? I kid! I kid! I like the second one better, because you just seem to look more handsome in it. I'm not too strange to admit when another man can look handsome. But hey. Photos are strange. I look like a freakin' monster in most pictures of me, usually because people are taking them at the worst times, but I'm actually an adorable little scamp.

So enough about me. Number two is the way to go.

The side view somehow says, "Go away, I'm busy thinking."
The front view says, "Come here, I'm an interesting person and I'd like to get to know you."

Which picture is best depends on what you want the picture for.  The first picture looks more professional, while the second shows more personality.  They both seem like fine pictures to me.

Thanks for the comments everyone.  They're really useful, though I still can't decide which picture I prefer. =)

The left one definitely.  You have your head and jacket in the classic Air-Force pose, like you're going to tear somebody up in Command & Conquer.  In the other one your posture is hunched and makes you look nervous.

It depends what kind of character you are...If you are a magic user for example wizard, cleric, druid... then I would choose the left portrait as it shows you look quite intelligent, calm and know what your doing.

The right one is more a close combat person, with a slight smirk on your face showing your ready for anything that jumps at you. If you tell me what kind of character you will be, just tell me and I will think of a pose for you that would possibly suit it best. (I do drama and acting, so I have learned alot about this)

Also...In game would you beable to actually see it anyway from other characters? Would I just beable to do my own custom portrait and all the characters can see it? I am thinking about it you see...

It, ah, wasn't really my intention to use either of these pictures as a character-portrait, but thanks for the information.  I'm seeing that the consensus is that the first picture is considered more authoritarian/serious while the second one is more friendly/playful.  As far as making your own custom portrait is concerned, you can make a custom portrait, but others will specifically have to download your portrait from somewhere (most likely a link in one of these forums unless you can convince the admins to put it in the Files section) in order to be able to see it.
