A Soft song on the quiet breeze. (IC Post)
« on: April 08, 2008, 06:30:03 pm »
On a quiet night in Leringard an Autumn’s harvest rain drums quietly on the cobbled walkways. The air takes on an earthy smell as the rain stirs across the ground and washes through the streets.  At the end of the block the candlelight glows warmly from the Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern windows... The door a bit ajar allows the soft lilting notes of a lonely violin to filter through the evening’s humid air.

Long fluid notes deliver a bittersweet melody; they call into the night like a beautiful siren who might lure her sailors away from their heading.

The gentle rhythm speaks of devotion and the minor tonality of a longing that both starves and feeds some souls.

As you enter the Inn door the air grows silent around you, in the center of the room stands a red headed minstrel, her fingertips hovering above the strings of the violin.  Her breath quivers slightly as she exhales then inhales and continues to play.

This time the valleys of quiet in the song are matched by a growing sound, a crescendo with depth and vitality. She plays as if the music disembodies her; she plays with passion as if the small wooden instrument were her lover. She plays.

... and when the song is finished.. her emerald eyes look up to you...

Shiff wanders in from the rain, his hair dripping with the rainwater, his cloak slightly damp, and his boots covered in mud.  He doesn't look personally bothered by his condition, but he none the less tried to kick off some of it, and dry his hair prior to entering the Arms and sitting back to relax after a journey back from fighting the Trollocs north of Dalanthar.  He smiles watching Kali sing and play, having never had the chance to hear her voice  in song other then the few times they travelled together.  He clapped softly as she finished and smiled back at her, pausing a moment to scratch the back of his almost constantly bandaged right hand, before speaking.

Well, funny I come in'ere tah see yah and find yah strumming yer violin...  How yah been, Kali?  Been a while since I've been in here...

A solitary figure in a deep blue cloak passes the Arms on the route she walks nearly every day she is in Leringard, coming home from the docks and the place she goes to think. She pauses, catching the strains of the melody, keeping to the shadows, but even should the candlelight glint against her pale skin few would see her through the spell that surrounds her.

She hesitates, eyes closed, letting the music wash over her, a peculiar yearning and hint of curiosity in her expression. It is only a moment, and like many other moments this one goes unmarked. When the song ends, the woman leaves, never having even breached the circle of torchlight guiding patrons to the inn's door. She goes softly, without comment, a smile on her lips and a sadness in her eyes.
In the shadows of the building a brown-haired man stands with his head tilted back to catch the rain, fingers half curled at his sides as he listens to the siren song. The water runs down over his closed eyelids and stubbled cheeks, even dripping down from the small rings in his ears. A shudder runs through him as he hears the door open and someone enter, and he turns and walks away to avoid knowing their face, lest this once he envy the one that came first upon the music's origin without knowing what they had found. The candlelight glows behind him as he strides away towards the docks, footsteps dampened by the rainfall... perhaps it was too soon, after all, to return - or too late, for having not entered first. This game would have to wait another day...
A lonely tall figured, in all black, followed curiously by a shadow that seems to be of its own will, enters the inn with utter silence as a ghost. Keeping away from the people sighs, he stands on the wall listening to the music. His own heart longing and hurting, he lets him self seen by the red hair violinist, but doesn't move or speak. Only keeping himself entranced in the melody that filled the air. When the song ends, he looks at her gently, still waiting.. for something.. for nothing.

*a dwarf enters teh arms. There is still some blood on her shield that hasnt been washed off by the rain. When someone looks at her, and she proudly smiles and says 'Goaints.'

*She enters the lounge quietyl listening ot kalis playing. She smiles happily and tries to hum along a little as she spots suds at the bar.

Speakign to suds in alow tone so as not ot interfere with kalis's singing 'She gots a purty voice an some roight noice talent..Still..dis noight be purfect fer a gud ol fashioned dwarfen drinkin song.'

*she then orders herself a beer and sits back to listen to kali play.

A wisp of cold evening air chases through the room as the door is opened yet again. Soaked by the rain, Hardragh enters the inn. A cloak clasped around his neck with the hood pulled down, never pulled up to keep out the rain. He smiles at the sight of the gypsy playing, calm grey eyes watching her from between stray, wet locks of hair, streaking across his face due to to the rain outside.

He quietly walks to the fireside, watching her performance from the side, remaining quiet as she finishes.

The blue-skinned mercenary reclines in his highback chair. Pack, mask, and weapons are all laid aside. Instead he covers himself in a soft robe, and his hands hold several parchments. In the midst of quiet studies, the minstril's song sneaks through the floorboards. The mind seeks pause, and muscled arms relax. The siren's song takes hold. Instinctively, the pair of crimson eyes turn to the portrait on the wall, of his sister. She is pale and beautiful and young, as he will always think of her. This he knows. But the song ends, and his studies call, and he resolves to visit his sister and the children on the coming of morn.

A slender figure steps out of the shadows and into the glow from the torch lamp hanging outside the Arms. His hood pulled lower over his face so not to be recognised. Rain pounding against him as he stands watching the door listening to the sad melody calling to his soul.

His steps are heavy and slow as he passivly approaches the unshut door. The figure stops suddenly at the opening still listening to the canticle. His hand brushes the door faintly as his closes his eyes tight struggling to decide if he takes the chance to enter or retreat back from the shadow where he came. He pushes open the door quietly and with catlike step walks through the thresh hold as the warmth wraps around him. Silently he continues to the door on the right that is also ajar. Light radating from its crack. The shadowy figure slides to the crack peering into the room beyond. There he glimspes the enchantress and her hypnotic lyric. As Kali glances at the askewed door, the form nimbly retreats back leaning against the wall hoping he was not seen.

There he stands fighting a inner battle. "will the ballad change when she sees me to that of unforgiving hate?" he whispers at last..His hand slides down to the handle, but he pulls away abrutly as though he has been burned. The hooded figure sighs heavly still staring at the door. "Alright Toby, you came this far.. was the next step.. In or out like the coward you are?" He mumbles to himself as soundlessly lays his head back on the wall. "Not now.. Dont you ruin another thing with her.." He pushes himself off the wall and hastily makes his way out the door and into the shadows. As he disappears to the shadows a loan word can be heard.. "Coward.."

*Suds walks out from the kitchen after a long day of roasting barley and rye. He feels good after a long day of work, and knows he is one step closer to becoming a brewmaster. He takes a seat on his stool in front of the bar and begins to down of a few tankards of ale, and then a few more. Then Grenna takes a seat next to him.

Grenna- 'She gots a purty voice an some roight noice talent..Still..dis noight be purfect fer a gud ol fashioned dwarfen drinkin song.'

Suds- 'Aye, ye be rioght gud fer an elf. aye a drinkin' song ye want den.

*After Kali finishes her song SUds stands up and heads near the stage with a half empty tankard of ale, he gives a little bit of a wink to Kali, and she starts to play something a little more up beat, Suds start feel the music and even begins to clap alittle, after he gets into he starts to sing the first verse of a dwarven drinking song*

Oi like beer and ale and wine
Oi could drink it all dey time
if dey ale-jug wiegh a tun
den ill be drinkin' to one
all even split a tankard with you
cause ill be drinkin' till dey time be two
get anouther round fer me
cause ill be drinkin' to half pass three
if der be ale, oi wont be near dey door
cause ill be drinkin' to way pass four
get me a big enough jug, and in ill dive
cause ill be drinkin' aleast to five
get me all the ales, and make a mix
cause ill be drinkin' long after six
der better be ale in dey place call heaven
cause ill be drinkin der at seven
der be no wars, or even hate
cause dat be wut happen when ye drink till eight
ye wont need to even dine
cause ye'll drink wit me up to nine
Grab dat Ale! fer me an' Ben (Poetr)
cause we'll be drinkin' way after ten
oi dont know ye name but ye'll be called kevin
and ye be drinkin' wit us to eleven
I be to drunk to have dey twelve rhyme
but dis drinkin' be fun all dey time
luks like we had a gud trip
but dis be dey very last sip

*Suds then grab his half tankard of ale and finishes offs the rest of it and goes sits back down near Grenna*

*When the first song was finished Kali looked calmly around the room, a faint smile pressed into her rose colored lips as her emerald eyes took in the moment.  Then while she offered  a warm smile to Shiff, as if about to speak. A half tankered dwarven bard with tanker in hand made his way to her side.

With a silent wink, the sounds in the tavern changed. A refreshing change to some, as her violin picked up in beat.  Short staccato notes in time with the clap of dwarven hands.  She can't help but smile a little as the dwarf sings.  And while the minor tonality that had poured from the small instrument still lingers in the mind, this music seems to find another way to stir the senses and the spirit.

When Suds finishes the song, she laughs quietly, nodding once to him she whispers "Not half bad, Suds" and then winks.  *

*Turning her attention back to the rest of the tavern she lightly bounces the violin bow against her skirt.*

"Any requests?"

I heard they had a song named after yah, Kali, Shiff grinned, The Gypsy of Leringard, right?

Shiff smirked and called for a drink from the bar, whether he'd get it though wasn't a concern, he layed his backpack beside his chair and leaned his greatsword on the chair beside him and just listened.

*His voice rises from where he is standing. His voice is raspy and dark. He doesn't move from where he is nor raises his head to look at her. He stays still as he was when he came in*

How about a old elven slow song.
