Layonara Server / Congratulations Ycleption
« on: July 27, 2009, 10:48:03 am »
As the world of Layonara continues to change, so to do our needs and methods. Something that has seen many changes over the years is the process of Character Approvals. While the policies, procedures and expectations have evolved, so too have our means of choosing who approves characters to play in this world. At first it was a position held only by GMs and only those who wished to take on the responsibility. At some point, we opened up the position to the greater community, and in that the application process also evolved over time. Having tried several methods thus far, we have decided to try yet another and directly approach a long-time member of the community for the purpose of having this individual join the Character Approver team, rather than open up a potentially lengthy application process to fill a rather immediate need.

Please join us in welcoming ycleption as Layonara's newest Character Approver. We believe ycleption's time, judgment, world experience and positive presence within the community will be an asset to the Character Approval team and, through this, the world as a whole.

Rumour Has It / Iron Hills

*overheard in a tavern in Dalanthar from a woman in black*

Yeah it would appear that the mine is no longer stable.  I think someone or something might be digging deeper into the mountains searching for more ore.  You will definitely want to take extra help with you.  Our small group was able to get clear the caves but well it wasn't a walk in the park.  There for a while though it felt as if there was an earthquake or something.

*the discussion continues for several minutes*

Yeah it also seams that the Ogres have a new leader whom is organizing them and training them to fight.  But you know they don't call me Death's Mistress for nothing.

*the woman finishes her drink and drops a coin on the table and vanishes into thin air*

Just for Fun / Crows and Daggers
« on: May 14, 2009, 03:27:58 am »
Quote from: darkstorme
Minor additional point, not crucial but a bit jarring when I read it; a dagger any bigger than a throwing knife would be very difficult for a crow to lift; it's not a matter of where it grips it, it's a simple matter of weight ratios. Daggers in-game weigh a pound - a one pound bird would be hard-pressed to lift its own weight again for any real distance.

Carillon comes home and checks the forums and goes to find Darkstorme, taking him to task on this oversight

Carillon: You're wrong about the dagger, you know.
Darkstorme: What dagger?
Carillon: The one the crow carries.
Darkstorme: No ... that's the point. The crow cannot carry a dagger.
Carillon: Sure it can. It could grip it by the haft.
Darkstorme: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce crow could not carry a one pound dagger!

The biologist in Carillon pauses.

Carillon: Full grown crows are about a pound ...
Darkstorme: It was an immature crow.
Carillon: Oh, alright then.

***

Several hours later ....

Darkstorme: Look, it doesn't matter. It was just a minor point.
Carillon: Wait a minute! It could be carried by a Voltrexian crow!
Darkstorme: Oh, yeah, a Voltrexian crow maybe, but not a Dregarian crow. That's my point.
Carillon: Oh, yeah, I agree with that.

***

Later that evening, Carillon pokes Darkstorme awake ...

Carillon: Supposing two crows carried it together?

Lament for a Paladin (on the death of Aeronn Kirath)

Alas, a noble soul has gone, his flashing blade is stilled.
His amber eyes are closed in death, his mission unfullfilled.

The Gold he loved, the Gold he served, Oh Gold take him in death.
He tried to save a brother's life, and served with his last breath.

Alas, a noble soul has gone, his loving heart is stilled.
Illsare's sweet dart in vain did pierce, his duty called, he willed.

The Gold he loved, the Gold he served, Oh Gold take him in death.
But comfort send to one he loved and called with his last breath.

A great knight has fallen today, one of pure heart and brave soul ..

Farewell forever Aeronn Kirath, Farewell and May your soul be with Rofirein forever.

Roleplaying / Please don't make an Ox of it
« on: March 30, 2009, 04:15:05 am »
We have natty costume changes, personalised weapons, flags, banners, cloaks of distinction. We all love these and we readily sign up to all these aspects of RP and immersive features.

So can we show some restraint and keep the oxen out of the houses, Inns, banks, and crafting buildings. It makes the rest of the things above worth a little more.

 Thanks for your consideration.

Rumour Has It / Word out of Willows Weep
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:50:07 pm »
Throughout the chaos of the war against Sinthar Bloodstone, and beyond the end of the war and the Dark Ages that descended upon Layonara, the Tomb of Lost Heroes has remained a largely quiet and dormant place. The very place meant to ensure that the Lost are not forgotten was itself forgotten amongst the greater concerns of the age.  The news of new and foul plots in the world, the prospect of another war and further hardship for the world seem to dominate the talks where people gathered. The minds of most are on their futures, not on the fate of heroes who have passed from mortal life.

Yet in recent weeks, whispers then rumors begin to float through towns and cities, speaking of the Tomb in Willows Weep and of how it has been cleared of the neglect of decades.  Rumors speak of an anonymous benefactor who wishes the past not be forgotten. Still other rumors say it is the work of locals who felt the Tomb deserved to live up to its name.  Whatever the real story may be, one thing is consistent throughout all reports:

The Tomb of Lost Heroes is "alive" with new monuments to the fallen.

Which heroes past have been enshrined?  The tales and stories of such are as varied as those who tell them.  There's only one way to know for sure...

General Discussion / Notice: A New Hope...
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:13:29 am »
... has a good chance of not happening this week due to the server issues. So, if the servers are up, it's likely a go, but if not, well, we just have to wait. For that reason, I'm not putting it on the calender just yet. I'll post in this thread if/when I find out for sure.

Wanted to take a moment to thank Orth for the story telling event.  It was fun and imformative and his story telling abilities rival those of Ozzy.   The Lore stories are something I have missed greatly and Im glad he took the time to share them with us as a community.

General Discussion / A Happy farewell
« on: September 15, 2008, 01:35:54 pm »
I am stepping down from the GM team. It has been so much fun being a GM for all of you. Thank you all for the energy that you have brought to my quests. I am doing this now because I feel I dont have the time to commit to quests that it takes and needs to be a good GM. I will still be playing though and maybe more so ;).

Being a GM is not an easy task on Layo. Not only is there so much you need to know but the player base is very sophisticated and that means you had best be on your toes at all times as a GM. By the end of some of my quests I would just log and pass out from the amount of multi tasking it took. Please keep in mind that most of the time there is only one GM there and he or she is trying to track all text (many times in multi locations), use a plethora of tools to call forth this beast or that NPC, play the NPCs, turn area spawns on and off, balance and re balance encounters, and set the mood and stage. All of this is after a couple of hours of set up. Be nice to them they work really hard.

Thank you all,
Jrizz - Happy
