Development Journals and Discussion / Musings and Meditations
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:21:57 pm »
Azaionna sits comfortably before the fireplace.  Her eyes closed she breaths deeply, seeking to center herself.  She begins to cast off surface thoughts,  delving for deep meditation.  Her mind becomes less and less cluttered and she is nearing the desired relaxed meditative state when she hears Fehriel laughing.

One eye snaps open, looking around as the calm begins to melt away and thoughts rush back upon her.  She sees the talking bird that followed Fehriel back from one of  his jaunts.  It is standing on its perch,it's beak open and Fehriel's laugh is pouring out.  Azaionna glares at the bird until it quiets.

Once again she slowly begins to enter a meditatve state. Suddely the calm is shattered by a high pitched chittering.  With a sigh, Azaionna looks around.  A squirrel is looking up and scolding her for gods knows what.  At times like this she almost wishes she had Feh's knack for speaking with animals.  She half expects to see a note or some flower attatched to the furry little bundle of noise.  She sees none, and can't decide if that disappoints her or not.  She shoos the squirrel away.  It leaves reluctantly, scolding as it does so.

Azaionna shakes her head.  "This is ridiculous.  I haven't had this much trouble meditating since my first year with the Sisters."

She closes her eyes to start again.  Just before her eyelids shut she sees the bow that Feh made for her hanging on the wall.  Her eyes snap open again ands she snorts.

"Alright.  Enough is enough."  Azaionna eyes the bow for long moments, glancing from it to her hands and her white robes, then back to the bow again.
"What needs resolved I cannot resolve here.  There are simply too many distractions.  There should not be.. and yet..  I need time alone.  Just me, nature.. Aeridin.. and perhaps  Folian as well.."  *the last is spoken in the barest of whispers*

Azaionna writes a note leaving it where she knows Fehriel will find it.  She hesitates many long moments at the door, finally, suddenly she grabs the bow off the wall. Azaionna practically slams the door shut, before racing down the hall and out the front door.

As the front door slams behinid her Azaionna thinks of the years ago when another door slammed shut.  Her father, and her old life were on the other side of that door.

Azaionna runs as only a monk can utnil she is deep into the whitehorn forest.  There she makes camp among the trees and hums quietly to herself as she enters reverie.

Ask A Gamemaster / Goblin Spellcasters
« on: May 18, 2009, 03:14:32 pm »
According to Lore goblins must be chaotic nuetral unless they are spellcasters or follow A'zatta.

I was wondering if Ranger counts as a class that could be true nuetral, or if only core spellcasting classes (i.e. wizards, sorceres, clerics and druids)  were intended.

Rumour Has It / Trouble in Krandor crypts
« on: March 28, 2009, 01:19:16 pm »
*Jacob can be overheard speaking with the magistrate in Krandor*

....Yes, a large skeletal dragon flew overhead, disappearing just before it flew into your crypts.  I entered the crypts hoping to learn something of what was going on.  Everything down there is tinged in a weird red light.  The undead stood unmoving the entire time I was there.  I heard cries for help and was able to locate a mage by the name of Ian Griffiths.  He had been chained to a wall in the lowest part of the crypt.   He said he had come to the crypts at the behest of Te'Thalus, who had put out a call for mages.   Master Griffiths said he was the last of a large group.  The rest had all been turned into undead creatures,  like Te'Thalus himself.
According to Master Griffiths he had been there a month or so.
It appears Te'Thalus has not been destroyed after all.
Please urge caution to those venturing there.

*Jacob hurries off to Fort Llast*

**Jacob sits at the end of his small bed.  The other side of the narrow room is taken up by  his armor and long sword.  Jacob reaches underneath his bed and pulls out a blue bound book, gilded in silver with a golden Ankh on the front.  After a moment of thought he dips his quill and begins writing**

Hello!  My name is Jacob Nathaniel Stormhaven.  (Yes, of the Huangjin Stormhavens, how nice of you to notice.)  I have decided to chronicle my time here on Mistone, and the impending invasion by troops of what is being called a green dragon cult by some and the dragon stealers by others....

I have been on Mistone some little time now.  I contninually train, to better myself, so that I can better help others on the field of battle.  I am learning when and how to fight on the flanks of a melee, as well as when to stand aside and employ the blessings granted by Toran.

My sister Daniella is an able teacher and with her help I have greatly improved.  I was delighted when, after I had been here a short time, Daniella and I were joined by Samuel.  He is strong in the faith, if a bit unyielding. He is a paladin I suppose.  I enjoy watching he and Daniella have their "discussions"  both are as stubborn as stones, each knowing they are right.  Though we do not get to spend a whole lot of time together, we make the most of what we do have,  with training sessions, helping those unable to help themselves, or occasionally just get caught up with each other and what is going on with our daily lives.

Daniella has taken another under her wing as well, Ava.  Ava is an initiate in the Paladin orders, as she too has just come from Huangjin.  *grins as he writes*  What can I say about Ava?  She is beautiful, charming, and steadfast in her Faith.  I do look forward to spending more time with Ava, learning more about her, and getting to know her better.  Apparently my wish to know Ava better has been painted upon my face. A few of those we traveled with have made mention of how I look upon her.  To top things off, Daniella pulled me aside and told me not to distract Ava from her work!  She gave me permission to "see" Ava. (which I think is mighty big of her) But cautioned that we must not distract each other from the work Toran has set aside for us... *the next is written very small*  She even said that I should remember that Ava will not be able to perform her duties while "with child"!  *the bigger writing resumes* What was she thinking??  I must meet with her "Friend"  Chaynce and see if I can get a feeling of how things stand with them...
I might have been offended by Daniella's little speech, but I really believe she was trying to prevent Ava and I from being hurt. She mentioned that she did  not want to see me suffer a loss like she did.  I almost asked her what she meant, but the pain in her voice and expression forbid me.

I walked with Ava to Fort Wayfare, where she gave the dwarf his grim delivery and though we each had separte duties to attend to, we talked briefly.  She suggested that we meet at a more convenient time at an Inn, so that we could get to know one another in less dangerous environs than we are used to.  I agreed immeadiately.   All that remains is to set a date for our Date.  *grins*
Ah, well,  I have more healing draughts to make,  we live in a dangerous world and War is coming...

Development Journals and Discussion / Aeronn Kirath: Observations
« on: September 13, 2008, 09:28:23 am »
*Sitting by a low-burning campfire Aeronn reaches into his pack and pulls out a leather bound tome embossed with a golden Compass Shield.  Next he pulls out a quill and a small vial of ink. He begins writing in the tome...*

Aesthir is correct. Writing down facts while they are fresh in your memory can be of use when the facts need to be recalled later.  I will use this journal for that purpose.

Facts known and suspected about Quantum's disappearance:

1. He was taken by undead

2. One of the female vampires seen at his abduction is inhabiting Arindor's Demise.  She claims he is not there and has threatened the safety of Llast if she is not left in peace.

3. Laura has appeared saying she wishes to help.  She also claims she is no longer a vampire, and is not responsible for her previous acts.  She is seeking to have her name cleared, and using blackmail to try and achieve that goal. (So, even if she is not a vampire, she is still up to her old ways)  Suspected of being behind the whole abduction.

4.  I have heard rumours that an Aeridinite was captured, and actually saw Quantum briefly before he was able to make his escape.  The rumours say this happened in the Hammer Bound Peaks.  The rumours also say that Corathites are responsible.  I need to speak to Flint, as he is the one the rumour says was captured.

5.  Although more information is required, it seems the Hammer Bound Peaks will be the place to look, and the force assembled should be prepared to fight old and powerful vampires..

Rofirein Guide and protect us...

*Aeronn closes the book, storing it and his materials in his bags.  Then he extinguishes his fire and sets off once again.*

Quests Ideas and Discussion / A New Hope..Discussion Thread
« on: August 18, 2008, 03:02:19 pm »
//Hello! I thought it might be a good idea for us to discuss ideas/strategies in a forum thread, IC of Course  :)

*as the dishevelled group makes a strategic withdrawl, Aeronn looks about. Seeing Connor still deep in thought he clears his throat and speaks to the group*
Does anyone think there is any connection between the pit dwellers and the Gnolls, other than the gnolls being a handy and easily manipulated force?
More importantly, what is our next step for approaching the Gate?
*He pauses, looking about to see if any answer him*

11
*Aeronn steps away from the arena and heads to the dock, to stare across the ocean and clear his head.  After a short  moment he gazes into the sky whispering quietly*

Rofirein?  It's Aeronn again.  I may be needing some guidance soon.  I cannot believe I never noticed until Razeriem spoke it aloud.  *shifts a little bit*  She is Beautiful.  I have never met a woman that I wanted to kiss before.  Of course, I have never met a woman like Daniella either.  *smiles*
Can I be feeling what I think I am?  If I am, is it a distraction from Ilsare, or your will?

*He gazes up silently  until the sound of his friends leaving the arena is carried to him. Then he turns and rushes to join them*

On June 15th at approximately 11:30  EST  I went to polish some gems, and Lo and Behold, the gem table already had items upon it.
If whomever left the items will pm me with what they are we can arrange to have them returned.
It was the gem detailing table closest to the wall if that helps.
Thanks,

Ask A Gamemaster / Blackford Castle and Mistone
« on: May 13, 2008, 03:32:40 pm »
I am sorry if this information is out there somewhere, but I could not find it.
I was wondering who is in charge of Blackford Castle, and who the current rulers in Mistone are.  I became curious a while back,  Aeronn was traveling with some other adventurers passed the castle and mentioned what a beloved Queen Allurial had been.  I would have gone on to say more about the current ruler, or at least inhabitants of the castle, but I realized I had no clue who that was.
Thanks in advance,
Andrios

Hall of Heroes and Heroines / Tha'Azail Neverborn
« on: November 28, 2006, 09:03:45 pm »
The shield clanged loudly as it hit the rough cavern floor.  “Man those giants hit hard,” Iradril grunted, leaning against the rock wall.  Blood was pouring down his arm where the giant’s maul had smashed and splintered his shoulder.

Tha’ nodded grimly.  Calling upon the healing power of Aeridin, he watched as Iradril’s splintered bones grew back together, and the flesh knitted itself until it had a normal healthy black sheen.

A short time later, Tha’ was thinking the same thing.  These giants did hit hard.  A group had come into the mines behind them, and then rushed forward saying something about coming for vengeance.

Tha’, Iradril, and Owen had followed behind them, trying to ascertain if they needed help.  Very quickly it became apparent that they did as the group was overrun by a band of giants.   One of the group got slammed against the wall, and then came running back toward Tha’ and his friends.  Iradril and Owen charged forward to aid the other group.  Without thought Tha’ placed himself between the giant and the one who was fleeing back.

Tha’ intended to hold the giant off long enough for Iradril or Owen to provide relief, so that he could heal those who needed it.  He was surprised as one giant became two.  Tha’s mighty shield held the first blow back; his ‘hammer smashing the giants kneecap in return.  Tha’ felt the air as the second giant swung and attempted to duck behind his shield.  His shield was a little low, and Tha’ heard his helmet crunch and then everything went black.

Tha’ awoke and gently began to feel his head, expecting to feel a mangled helmet.  His eyes sprung open when his hands came in contact not with his helmet, but with his hair.   As he looked around, Tha saw a barren, rocky landscape.  He was in a wide valley, all around the ground rose into blunt hills, and behind the hills at the horizon loomed sharp mountains.  Tha’ felt groggy as if he were moving underwater, everything seemed surreal.  That is when he felt the presence behind him.

Looking behind him he saw a stocky woman garbed in black.  She seemed to be swiftly winding a golden string or cord as she fluidly tucked it deep within one of her wide sleeves.   She had her hood pulled up, disguising her features.   The woman straightened herself imperially and then raised one arm.   Slowly she extended a finger encased in a black lace glove, pointing towards the east.

Tha’ looked in the direction she indicated and noticed a bright golden glow at the base of one of the hills.   Oddly enough the glow reminded him of his own Golden Leaf.   As if in response to the thought, his holy symbol began to glow.  Tha’ noticed then that he was missing not just his helmet, but all of his armor.  He was clad in a simple robe, much like the one he had worn for many years in his home temple.  At his side hung his ‘hammer.  On his finger was the ring he made from the gem that had marked him as a Lightbringer.   Tha’ was beginning to feel strangely at peace and turned to ask the stranger who she was and where he was.   She was nowhere to be seen.  The landscape suddenly seemed bleaker and more forbidding.   When he turned eastward however, Tha’ felt calmness return, and he felt drawn toward the glow.  With a half grin, he began walking toward the glow and what awaited him there.

Tha’ walked and walked.  On the second day it occurred to him that he had not eaten or drunk, nor did he feel hungry or thirsty.   At the beginning of the third day Tha’ could see his goal.  At the base of the hill was an enormous oak tree, even larger than the Great Oak.   Within the trunk of the tree was a large door, shaped like Aeridin’s Golden Leaf.   The door was ajar, and the golden light was spilling outward from within.

Tha’ reached the door at what he thought of as noon, although there was no real light or sun in this land to confirm his feeling.  The only light that seemed real was coming from within the tree.  As he reached the tree the door slowly opened all the way, releasing the soft golden glow.  The glow made it impossible to see what lay within, but the feeling of comfort and serenity was not to be ignored.  Tha’ stepped toward the doorway, and then paused and looked back into the desolate wasteland.   Could he take this final step?   Was his work back there really done?

In response to his unasked question the feeling of welcome and peace intensified from within the doorway.   Inside his head, Tha heard seemed to hear an ancient and wise voice.  “The cycle is in constant motion.   You have new lessons to learn.   You have done well, review what you have accomplished if you will, and then move forward into what awaits with confidence that it is the continuation of what has gone before.”    At once images began to flood into Tha’s consciousness.

Once again he was a young priest unsure as he stepped out into the world.   He was standing before a great Golden Dragon and given a mission.  Tha’ recalled arriving in Hlint with a sense of purpose and those he met there destined to be his friends and companions.

A flash of light and once again he was on the road with Iradril when he was blessed by a messenger of Lucinda and together with Owen they made the trip to Blackford Castle so that Iradril could give thanks and proclaim his devotion.

Another flash and he could feel the deep oppressive gloom of Arindor’s crypt.  The shadows all around as Arindor taunted all that had come there to thwart his hold over Bidwick.   Tha’ was once again filled with Aeridin’s Light and strength and was able to overcome the oppressive fear imposed by Arindor.

The blazing light from Tha’s Golden Leaf flared and once again he was with Owen, Iradril, Talan, Gulnyr and others as he met Rhizome.   Even then Rhizome was the high druid of Mistone.  He remembered the honor and pleasure he gained from the friendship he and “Aeridin’s Strongest” shared.

The scene shifted slightly and Tha’ stood in the company of Talan, Lalaith, Rhizome, Plenarius, Brisbane, Owen and Iradril.   The group had been granted an audience with Ozlo where they were given clues and instructions to help return the metallic dragons to Layonara.   Ozlo’s gaze was intense, knocking Owen and Iradril to the ground.  Within the gaze Tha’ thought he recognized a familiar glint.  Tha’s hunch was proven many years later, when Ozlo appeared in draconic form in defense of the Great Oak.

Once again Tha’ could smell the dust, dirt and mold that was present in almost every crypt he had ventured into.  He could recognize this crypt by its scent, however.   He was at the bottom of the crypt in Krandor, and once again he was calling forth Aeridin’s holy light upon the gem he had been given.  In a flash of light and pain Tha’Azail had become a Light Bringer of Aeridin.

The next images that flashed through his mind included the Lost Souls, those poor children that had dedicated themselves to Shadison.  Tha’ recalled the small part he had played, chasing the books left behind and diminishing Shadison’s presence as well as redeeming Dougal, the fallen paladin.

In his mind Tha’ was once again in Hlint being approached by Aeridin’s messenger.  He was being given his  ‘Hammer and congratulated on his work in Aeridin’s name.   Tha’ caressed the now worn handle of his ‘hammer and smiled in mixed pride and a sense of humility that he had been so honored.

The ‘hammer reminded him of the day that he, Owen, and Iradril had stumbled upon Aeon outside of Storan’s crypt and the search of the crypt that lead to the very short confrontation with Eon.   He also remembered the many trips to the crypt to return its residents to the Great Cycle.

That train of thought led him to think of his good friend Aralin, and the fateful day Aralin began forming the Vakhar.   Tha’ thought of the many good things the Vakhar had done.  He thought of the safe path they had created to Folian’s temple, and the way the Vakhar had helped the Wolfswood Rangers.   Tha’ thought of all the work they had done in the present darkness caused by the great clouds of dust and debris.  The Vakhar were working to preserve the trees and other plants and thus help sustain the cycle disrupted by the unnatural conditions.

Thoughts of the Vakhar led full circle back to Rhizome and one of the most beautiful days of Tha’s life.  Tha’ remembered  how he had the great honor of seeing Rhizome ascend to the position of Heirophant, and witnessed him planting the Silver Vein.   The ceremony strengthened the Great Oak and helped ensure the defeat of Blood.  Tha’ had been honored and humbled when Plenarius had called upon him to add the blessings of Aeridin to the blessings of Katia over the momentous occasion.

That feeling of happiness echoed within him when he was traveling with his two best friends, Iradril and Owen. It was hard to think of Iradril without remembering the day he was once again blessed by Lucinda and in thanks for retrieving a blade of importance for her he was granted the knowledge to meld sword and shield with the weave to become a spell sword.   It was even harder to think of Owen without thinking of his great quest to meet and speak with the dragons, to record at least one of their stories and create a grand epic for the edification of all of Layonara.

Thinking of friendships also caused him to think of Anna Lee.   He thought of the night on the docks when they had spoken of their pasts and their hopes for the future.  He thought about the contentment he had felt that night, a contentment he usually only felt in the presence of Aeridin.

The presence of Aeridin…. Tha’ smiled and walked forward into the light, the door closing softly behind him.   For a brief moment the last rays of the sitting sun lit the doorway in amber fire, then after a final flare the wasteland was dark and desolate once more.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the first rays of the rising sun touched the altar of Aeridin’s temple in Ranger’s Vale a bent old man emerged from the trees.   With a stride belayed by his bent form he headed for the temple stopping just outside of it.
At the edge of the temple he bent down and with gnarled hands he placed a young sapling into the dirt spending some time to ensure that it was properly planted and given advantages to encourage it to thrive.
At last he stood as much as his age and infirmity would allow.  He whispered quietly, “ This is planted in memory of Tha’Azail Neverborn.  Founding member of the Vakhar.  True and Loyal Friend.  Light Bringer.  Blessed of Aeridin.  Though you never knew me, I am proud of you, my son”
With the quiet benediction spoken the bent figure silently melted back into the woods.
