Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Eschew Materials II
« on: October 16, 2009, 08:08:36 pm »
just to clarify further, since Wizards don't get a feat at level 11, the earliest that eschew 2 can be taken for both wizards and sorcerers is level 12 (that's character level 12, you can take it if your a level 11 wizard and level 1 something else)

Fixed Bugs / Re: Arrows with wrong Level Req
« on: October 06, 2009, 10:24:14 am »
this is an issue with the way that NWN determines level requirements, the pricing lens takes the price of the stack of arrows, and calculates what the level requirement is based on that price

the game engine determines the level requirement based on the price of a standard nwn sized stack (99 arrows) and uses that price to determine the actual level requirement

thus to accurately price determine the level req for ammo, drop it into a stack of 99 and then use the lens on them

for the record UMD does not allow you to forgo level req's, just class, race, and alignment reqs

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Policy questions regarding new alignment rules
« on: September 29, 2009, 08:20:04 pm »
I have a quick question that's fairly related to this because I've never quite understood the system (I see it as a catch 22 but i won't get into that now).

If the DM team has determined that a character has not been playing his alignment does the player get a chance to defend his characters actions, since it's motivations more then anything that determine if an act was good or evil.

In other words, If my Evil character Tim saved a small child from certain death that would be considered a good act, but if he only did it because there was a reward for returning the kid then the act is really not that good any more.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Shadow evade
« on: September 21, 2009, 03:12:01 am »
I disagree about the duration, I never seemed to have an issue with it when playing Lue, you have to realize the durration is offset by the fact that it's 3 uses per rest, it's not designed to be used right after you rest, but to be used right before a combat in which sense it lasts long enough usually to see the end of that particular engagement (and if it doesn't you can always back off and hide)

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Mechanical restrictions of levels....
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:49:47 pm »
very true, which is why i think most of the reason that it's the way it is, is because thats how it was when the rule was created, about 6 years ago, when 20 was the max level

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Mechanical restrictions of levels....
« on: September 04, 2009, 08:15:49 pm »
when the rule was originally introduced level 20 was the max (the server has been around since before the expansions were released), now however save/attack bonus is uniform for every character class after level 20, so a character that leveled up to 18 fighter before starting on cleric path could be seen as trying to max out his attack bonus since it's going to go up by 1 per level regardless of the class he picks after 20

Fixed Bugs / Re: Iron golem poison gas does double damage sometimes
« on: August 23, 2009, 10:07:28 pm »
read the lore again, the secondary effect of the poison is Death, not con modifier. your log appears to back up that this is what happened.

note this means when innitially poisoned the character will lose 1d4 points of con, if the poison goes untreated when the secondary effect hits if failed the character will die.

this is exactly what the LORE says, and not a bug in any sense of the term

EDIT: whether anti death effects such as shadow shield or deathward effect this or not i do not know

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: strangeness in the Az'atta page
« on: August 05, 2009, 02:08:18 am »
I think Hellblazers issue is not with the 4 alignments that the darkelves are allowed (with clerics being allowed to be submited as good) it's with the "worshipers of Az'atta are only allowed to be submitted as good", which means that the only DE's that can be submitted as followers of Az'atta must be clerics, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to be honest

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Multiclass at lvl 19 is ok?
« on: July 28, 2009, 06:05:46 pm »
well to be fair, those rules were written when the max character level was 20, and were mostly enacted to stop power builds that made no sense where a few class levels were taken to obtain their level 1 bonus's (before the rules were enacted there was a character who was level 18 sorc, level 1 paladin {for the charisma bonus to saves}, level 1 monk {for evasion})

While i do still see the reason for the rule, i fail to see why it's cutoff point should still be level 20.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: half race characters
« on: July 26, 2009, 08:30:55 am »
First off a half dark elf would have the same stat line benefits/abilities of a half elf and not those of an dark elf, in the exact same way that a half elf does not have all the same abilities of an elf

To my knowledge there is nothing that states you can not create a half elf character, but this character would have to have been born before 1421 (and thus be over 30 years old) and this character would have to be unable to have offspring of their own (due to the storyline reason)

Lets raise the coin thresholds on all pawnshops by 500%. After 30 days take a look at the state of things via player surveys.

the problem with this is adding more gold to the pawn shops will not solve the problem. the problem is not that the pawn shops run out of money, it's that they have no means of refilling their supply of money

if you increase the amount of gold the pawn shops carry then it'll only mean they have gold for an extra few minutes.

the problem is that the people who drain all the money from the pawn shops by selling various items, actually carry more of these items then they can sell to the pawn shops.

for example, lets say the item being sold is a type of arrow (i don't know if CNR arrows sell well, I'm just saying for the sake of argument) since the pawn shops have been out of money for 3 days the character in question has been stocking up on these arrows for 3 days, now when the server resets he rushes to the nearest pawn shop (typically Hampstead or vehl) and sells his items for 1000 gold until the shop has less then 1000 gold, he still has items left, but the shop doesn't have enough money to pay for it so he moves on to the next shop.  increasing the ammount of money that the shops hold doesn't really make the gold last longer, it just means the character spends and extra 30 to 40 seconds selling items to that pawn merchant before moving on

18
I don't know if this is feasible in the script for the game, but would it be possible for the pawnshops gold coffers to get filled by purchases to the other shops of the given town?

for example, Lue goes to the craft merchant and spends 128 on enchanting oil, would it be possible for that 128 gold to be transferred to the pawnshops gold supply?

the reason the pawnshops are "broken" is because due to lag issues they are effectively only half a shop and they function in no way like an actual pawn shop would.  I understand that we can't have the pawnshops hang on to their inventory, because this would constantly crash the server as their inventories fill up with pages upon pages of junk that people sell.  however due to this constraint we have merchants who give money out, and never take any money in.

Ah, if only the coders at BIOware were more familiar with intro-level BIOlogy. :P

You can hardly expect everybody to be experts in taxonomy though, which unfortunately is something most people know very little about
