General Discussion / Re: Not particularly important
« on: December 11, 2006, 06:41:17 pm »
When I posted this I half-expected to be flamed, but mostly I just hoped I would feel better getting this stuff off my chest.  Well, neither happened.  I guess that's half-good, half-bad.  But the sense I'm getting from the powers that be is that, while of COURSE any concerns I have are relevant and will be soberly and sincerely considered, nothing will change.  From the less-than-high-ups, I'm apparently not grown-up enough to accept kid-friendly rules.  I shall remember that as I continue to work towards my calling... as an elementary school teacher.

Anyway, that's fine - it just means that the server clearly isn't for me.  So thanks for a pretty good first online gaming experience.  I will no longer be reading the forums, I will not see any further responses in this thread.  IDii has my contact information if anyone wants it.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: DM quest limits
« on: December 04, 2006, 07:48:49 am »
I think I've been on a total of four quests, one spontaneous, including someone else's CDQ.  In the case of the two regularly scheduled quests, I went prepared to wander away cheerfully should too many people show up.  However, I don't think there were more than five for either of those.  Certainly not the twenty-some who had signed up.

Perhaps the real problem is that the quest "descriptions" on the calendar are not very descriptive.  Some of them list level limits, group size limit, RP vs. hack & slash, and have a short paragraph describing the premise.  Those are the only ones I would consider signing up for.  Some are "details to come later," although the details never show up on the calendar at all.  A lot of them seem, to me, to give some very basic idea of what the quest is about, but don't state whether it's open or closed, what the level limits are, how big the party can be, or any other details that might help to decide whether or not the quest is appropriate for YOU.  Only the first type of description I mentioned is particularly inviting to someone who's just looking for a quest to join.  The others tend to leave one with the impression that they're aimed at someone else, who already knows the details.  Maybe they are; in that case, there DO need to be more open quests.  Otherwise, I think quest descriptions should be required to conform (at least somewhat) to the situation-levels-groupsize-type format.

Thank you.  That is all. *bows*

I'm LG.  I can't help it.  "No! You can't cross the street there! You're not allowed!" "You can't drink, you're not old enough!" And so on.

That's right... I am the Lawful Good BARD.

Incidentally, I'm not allowed to take any more bard levels in my current NWN2 game... I started as CG, but ended up LG.  What? What?! Breaking the law is bad!

I have a sudden urge to start a band called THAC0.  They could play gratuitously complex songs that mostly just confuse people (with the exception of some of their original hard-core fans), but rename themselves and make more sense on their third album.

Brielle grins weakly up at him.  "Pleased to meet you, Grok.  My name is Brielle." Suddenly she wonders how she'll be able to teach him to read when his spoken Common seems barely functional.  Still, she supposes, he might be more intelligent than he appears... Studying him carefully, she amends the thought: he might be MUCH more intelligent than he appears.  He'd have to be, if she was going to be able to teach him.

"Come on, Grok.  Let's go sit down somewhere.  You can... tell me about yourself."

Brielle stares at him in disbelief for a moment while parsing his short speech, then her expression softens.  "You... can't read.  You don't understand the papers? Well, I suppose if you wanted me to I could teach you how to read..." The moment the words leave her mouth, a terrified look crosses her face.  She isn't sure why she has just offered to teach a half-orc to read, except that, strangely for such an imposing creature, he seems childishly innocent.  She bites her lip, then nods firmly.  "I'll teach you.  If you'd like."

I'm not bothered that I died.  I do that a lot.  I'm just bothered about the skeletons being dragged to an NPC.

Actually, I didn't think that one was particularly ~funny~... I was very frustrated that everybody else had run away and my options were either to die or leave the crypt, thereby dragging the skellies to NPCs.  I panicked and left as well (I was the last person) and I felt terribly guilty about it.  Although I ended up dying anyway, so really I should've just stayed in the crypt as a sacrificial... bard.  Nope, not funny.

Oh as for flanking. That is not an AC penalty for the flanked creature, its a +2 AB bonus for the flanking creatures.

Thats mostly a semantic difference as the effect is the same. I don't recall off hand if that is the D&D implementation or whether it was modified for NWN.

Not quite just semantics.  Enemy ranged attackers don't get a bonus to hit, it's only those actually flanking.

Also: referenced in Chongo's comment, but not explicitly stated here - Sneak Attack only has to beat your flat-footed AC, I believe.

It should do.  I think Dodge modifiers always stack.

Brielle approaches the half-orc cautiously, wondering if it will soon be her arm he's chewing on, but determined as always to help those in need.  Or something.

"Excuse me," she says quietly, as though afraid of startling him, "are you looking for something in particular? Maybe I could help..."

If this goes anywhere... I'm a singer (in case you pick something with vocals) and I can arrange a bit.  At least, I should be able to... *fourth-year B.Mus. student* Theoretically I can arrange.

Brielle reads the message several times, stunned.  "That really does sound like me..." she murmurs to herself, although she is almost positive it wasn't her.  A slight smile crosses her lips as she reads Minugi's response, and she pulls out her quill.

I don't think it was me, I'm still okay.
