*The following are extracts of conversations heard between the hulking brute Massanissa and others:

Brandin Fleetfeet: How are ya Mate?

Massanissa: I no happy wif dis Dragon Mon!

B: What? *looks around expecting to see one*

M: Dis Dragon Mon! De one who brings me here to dis place.

B: What are ya talking about Mate? Come on, cheer up! We can go kill some things if that’ll make you feel better. *Makes a throat slitting motion with his finger across his throat*Just like the other day!

M: I jus’ killed all de lizard men in de swamp Mon….got de leaders head too *smiles revealing pearly white teeth* He tinks he was so good wif his shamans using bad juju Mon! *chuckles* I showed dem Mon…I killed dem all! *his melancholy mood begins to lift recalling the experience*

B: *looks impressed* Wow your remembering stuff then hey?

M: *the melancholy look returns tinged with annoyance* Dis bloody Dragon he brings me here and no ask me if I wan come….*growls in his throat menacingly* If he ask me Mon and say I can come and kill tings and get gold then I woul’ most likely say yes. But he no say to me dis. Dis gives me much anger Mon. Worse ting Mon is that when he takes me here he make me forget all dis fighting tings I learn from the kobolds and fire giants from my homeland Mon….I NO LIKE DIS……I remembering dis slowly Mon. I will fight dis Blood cause de shamans from de temple say dis Blood wan to kill de God and our dragon on de mountain. But I no happy wif de golden dragon and if he come near me when I have remember all my tings Mon…..well he better watch out.
B: *takes a step back seeing the danger signs rising in his unpredictable mountain of steel and muscle* Well…..no sense crying over spilt milk me Old Man used to say..Just gotta rolls with the punches, and the kicks, and the head buts…*pauses and frowns* In fact ya gotta roll with a lot of things. Just gotta get up and keep going and get everything you can from it. *grins* I do!

M: *looks up at the irrepressible scamp of a Halfling that had attached itself to him lately. Seeing him standing there casually flipping a dagger in his hands and a silly grin on his impish features seemed to draw him out of his melancholy* You got any gold Dogboy?

B: Yep! *grins* A whole lot!. You know that group of halfwits we travelled with yesterday into the Greypeaks?

M: *growls* Dey all got killed cept us Mon…de not strong like Massa. I tell dem I get the leaders head for dem for gold but dey wan’ come….dey in de spirit worl’ now Mon. *grins*

B: *grins* Yeah well when things were going bad and you were fighting all those ogres one of the gave me all the gold we had collected so far and told me to keep it safe. I mean how stupid can you get? Giving a Halfling the treasure to keep safe!

M: *grins* Fire n Ashes you still got de treasure Dogboy?

B: Sure have Mate….dead people don’t need gold now do they *winks*

M: Dis Good Mon. I like dis…We go buy healing Juju and den we go kill dead things in de spirit house in Krandor Mon…

B: Spirit House?...oh you mean the crypts!

M: Dis what I say Mon!

B: Yeah, right. *laughs happily* Come on, Come on!

M: *Standing up he picks up his huge tabletop shield adorned with teeth from conquered enemies, adjusts the massive bastardsword over his back and the one at his hip and puts on his blood red battleragers helm. Looking down he sorts through the various shamanic amulets and totems hanging around his neck for one made of finger bones of undead. Holding it and making a warding gesture he strides off after Dogboy.* Fire n Ashes lets make some dis destruction Dogboy.

B: Now.Why didn’t I think of that! *grins happily at the thought of following this juggernaught of destruction into battle and collecting the gold that falls out of the pockets of the dead leaves behind* Here comes Halfling death!

Lord Falzain a rich mining baron from Xantril and his Mad mage Corulus have journeyed to Mistone to have some fun and put on a show. Visiting the Lord of Haven they have made the place into a giant carnival, no expense spared.. Heralds have been sent into the main cities from Port Hampshire across to Xantril to invite groups to participate in this event.

His prize! Will be announced before the game begins but will go to the first group to solve his riddles and arrive at the final destination within the allotted time……

// The following are the rules and procedures of the game folks. I would great appreciate it if people followed them to make it an enjoyable experience for all involved!  It is going to be a difficult one to GM and I would appreciate your honesty and co-operation.

Rules/Procedures:
• Groups of 3,4 or 5 allowed….Preferably no more than 4 or 5 groups so if we need to increase numbers of PC’s in groups we will do so. I would like to see an even spread of levels in each group so not 1 entire party of epics rather split up evenly.

• Each group is given a magical rock which enables Corulus to communicate with you across vast distances. (ie shout channel or tells from me or other GM’s helping me)

• After the intro at Haven, each group will be ported randomly to within an area in Mistone/Rilara/Dreger. (You will not begin until told in the Shout channel ie magic rock)

• PC’s can go to any of the 9 listed locations in ANY order. The 10th location will remain secret until you have 9 correct answers.

• PC’s have 2 RL hours to complete all the riddles to reveal the 10th location and claim their prize.

• One PC should be chosen to submit their group’s answers and announce to me (via the DM channel) that your group has reached destination 1 or 3 or whatever. I will then ASAP give you the riddle..

• Each group gets to nominate one answer at each location.

• Each time a group answers a riddle incorrectly they are teleported away from the area randomly and must once again at some point return to the location to answer the same riddle.

• If a group gets the riddle right they continue from where they are.

• You can ask for a hint for every riddle but it costs you a time penalty of 5 RL mins

• Each group has 3 lifelines they can use to avoid being teleported away from a location

• PC’s cannot change teams

• Do not send tells to members of other groups with answers or hints that will spoil the game for all.

• Time penalties and time bonus’s may be awarded by myself during the course of the game.

• The winner will be the group that gets to the final destination first after I have calculated any time penalties and bonus’s earned or lost through the course of the time allotted.

• Finally! If I use the Shout channel to ask everyone to pause. I would appreciate it if you did until I say go again, this is just to be fair to everyone and I will only do this if an issue has arisen which needs to be dealt with.

• Final Finally! Geez I hope this works!

Well! Just want to share with everyone out there who worries about death tokens!

One of my characters just hit level 10 Yippee and guess how many tokens! Hmm 5 not looking good for Epic!

My other new character...all of level 6 has only managed to die twice since his creation amazingly! Now how many death tokens do you think he has?

You guessed it! 2! How lucky am I!

HEHE anyway just wanted to share that so people out there can see getting one token might not be so bad after all!

Rumour Has It / Port Hampshire Warnings
« on: July 11, 2005, 12:58:00 am »
Port Authorities have relaxed the edit on travelling from Port Hampshire to Fort Velensk by land after recent reports indicating that the trolls previously fleeing the swamps have suddenly disappeared....also there have not been any sightings of the rats the size of hounds for the last few days.

The Temple of Rofirein in Fort Velensk reports being asked to tend to a man who claimed to have been bitten by a rat the size of a pony in the Fort Velensk outskirts. In his delirium Healer Holas commented that the man claimed also to have seen a huge black werewolf retreating into the Dire Forest...While these reports are unsubstantiated and authorities have relaxed the restrictions of travel to Fort Velensk they are still advising caution travelling into the Dire wood.

Development Journals and Discussion / Candlelights adventures
« on: June 22, 2005, 08:58:00 pm »
*Candlelight sits comfortably on the moss covered ground, her back against a tall old tree on the outskirts of the Seilwood Forest. Reaching into her bag she draws out lovingly made leather bound diary with bright cheerful patterns over the front and back covers. Opening it up she turns to the middle pages and begins to write.*

Entry 57:
Well….the last few days has changed my life. Ever since I left the farm in Flint my heart has lifted and the worries of life have left me.  The few weeks I spent with Captain Hardlin have prepared me somewhat for what it appears I have stumbled into. I am so glad he drilled me for hours each day on the use of weapons and evading enemy attacks. Even if I did complain about it!

Since the dream I find myself in Hlint on Mistone…a place in some ways similar to Flint but with a lot more people….oh and a lot more fine looking men as well.
The most amazing thing I have noticed in my time here is the willingness of people to help each other out…oh there are the usual clashes between people but on the whole I am amazed that such a mismatched group of people can come together like they do.

I could not believe it when I first arrived that a half-orc woman showed me around town. She was rough but very friendly. Then we were joined by another woman who amazingly was one of the dark elves…she made me nervous at first but she fought well and while she was not a great conversationalist she stood by us in the battles we faced.

I don’t know about some of the men though…we travelled into the caverns belonging to a tribe of Goblins called the Red Light Goblins. Arnault and his friend Ra’Vair were a bit too hot headed for us girls liking…charging into battles around every corner without any preparation at all…Svetta, Sahala and myself decided the best thing to do was to go at our own pace and take a care..lucky we did because the men charged into a battle and almost got themselves killed. We saw the sneaky goblins sneaking up behind them and took them out otherwise the men would have been killed. When will they ever learn?

We got to the leaders cave and once again the men charged in…this time we were ready and it all went really well….except I broke a nail and a goblin scratched me with his nasty sword.

Then the men decided they wanted to stay and wait for more goblins to arrive. By that time us girls had had enough of their hot headedness. We left them to their fate within the cave and returned to Hlint. It was disgusting but I gave the head of the goblin leader to Ronus, a crusty old dwarf for a nice reward. That’s one of the things I love about this place…there is a lot of money to be made for doing little jobs for people…and they have shops…I bought myself some clothes which I can hardly wait to work on. I also have more gold than Jeremy and I ever had out of the farms we had. I am so excited…I love this place.

Entry 58:
Today I met a very nice man….his name was Rolf and he helped me through the Broken forest where all the horrible undead are….this place is nice but some of the creatures are just downright ugly. One of the nasty undead slashed a great gash over my shoulder…It hurt so bad but Rolf came and made it all better…there wasn’t even a scar which I am thankful for, just torn clothing which I fixed pretty quickly. Poor Rolf got all embarrassed when I kissed him to thank him. I think he might be a bit shy which is kinda nice.

Then he showed me the big griffons. I have never seen flying creatures so big before, brave Rolf tried to stop them from hurting me but they were everywhere and poor Rolf took a terrible beating. Eventually together we managed to beat them off and once again Rolf healed the cuts the griffons had given me….he is such a useful fellow…and cute too.

Then we met a beautiful woman with clothes I absolutely adored, her name was Hali and she was just lovely.

Rolf and I then went to Fort Velensk but the shopping was lousy so we went to get a cougar pelt instead for poor Johan so he could look after his wife while she was sick. Unfortunately I think with all the problems with trolls in the area the animals had fled and we hunted for hours but could not find any at all…we even looked in the Dire wood but all we found there were nasty undead.  Brave Rolf was amazing the way he handled the masses of undead and we safely made it back to Fort Velensk. Oh yeah there was also the ugly faced harpies. I tried to tell them they seriously needed facials and manicures but they screamed at us and tried to hurt us so we beat them up.

Then Rolf took me to Port Hampshire, the markets there are amazing and I must admit I spent up big, my biggest decision now is what to wear tomorrow!

I have had so much fun lately and I feel so free from the life I led before I am sure now that I have made the right decisions. More later.

Wild Surge Inn / A Notice
« on: May 03, 2005, 12:25:00 am »
*A small notice is posted in the section for information from the local courthouse*

Authorities in Point Harbour today announced the capture of the notorious criminal Dirk Driss. Authorities caught Dirk, AKA The Black Blade after a chase through the docks district that lasted several hours and saw several people of the town wounded and one port official fatally wounded.
Local Milita Captain Darren Islange was quoted as saying "This man is wanted in relation to several murders across Rilara including several Milita and army officers. He is a blade for hire that we have finally cornered and captured."

Officials say Dirk Driss will be held in the local jail until an escort can arrive from Karthy where the trial will be held in several weeks time.

Rumour Has It / Reports from the Hammer
« on: April 28, 2005, 05:38:00 pm »
*Missives arrive in Port Hampshire to the Hammer based at the Hall of Dorand from the Hammer in SHoufal and word filters out into the general populace*

Hammer o' Dorand Grentham,

I'm sendin this hasty missive caus I bring word ta ya of tha occurances inna the Berhagen mountins anna even in our own mines unda tha earth. As ya know the last few years tha Mountins ave been hit with many minor rumbles causin little damage but more annoyances fer us dwarves. But lately things ar goin awry. Bloomin rocks are movin all o'er tha place. Even comin alive in tha mines anna chasin out tha miners. Giants are bloomin restless to, we bin seein em close ta Shoufal of late and e'en clashes wif em a number of times. Looks like theys got a new leader like...some giant called the Son o' the Earth.

What concerns me too is that I tried ta call on Dorands power o' tha Earth ta smite some giants in a recent battle ana while I felt 'is presence in me tha magic didna come.  Tha Earth answered alright but the bloomin things attacked us instead. Aint right...Got me rightly worried.

Oddest thing but, was after we retreated the giants turned on each uthu fer a while. Damn odd.
Anyways we're getting the boy's all geared up..reckon we got a battle comin wif them giants anna this so called Son o' the Earth.

Hammer of Dorand,

Wild Surge Inn / Congregation of the Faithful
« on: April 26, 2005, 04:36:00 pm »
We have known for sometime within our own faiths that there will come a time when those who believe in a future of service to their respective gods will be threatened by the omnipresent force that is Blood and his allies. But even now as this threat grows others rise like a wave threatening to drown us even further, to divide us and then conquer us.

It has been hinted at time and again from those who know this world the best, the Seven sisters, Xora, Morakken and others that if we do not stand together then we shall surely fail and the world and its inhabitants and those they worship will suffer greatly.

Yes….even the Gods are not safe from the forces that threaten and it is time that we all came together to discuss how we can face these threats, to combine separate faiths knowledge and show a united front against them.

This threat must overcome our basic desires to squabble, fear, distrust and even make war upon each other.

And so we extend an offer to all Faiths to select two representatives of the Faithful, who will speak and present information on behalf of the Faiths members. Two people who are regarded as trustworthy enough to represent their deity’s followers and who can carry information back to their followers equally.

Two people also who can overcome natural rivalries and put aside differences in the chance of providing for our future and the future of our Faiths.

Those chosen have no easy task before them, we need to come together with our respective faiths and not clash with our respective religions.

I ask that all those chosen by their Order and the Faith they represent list themselves below so that we prepare for the first Congregation of the Faithful.

Servant of  Rofirein, Tarradon Duvall

// Okay folks this is it, get it while its hot! 2 Reps from each Faith who most in your faith agree upon…If you think you have the criteria and want to participate talk to those also of your faith to put yourself forward…..Here is a chance for some great RP!  Maybe even some CDQ’s out of this if you want…hence the reason for the one month before the first meeting..gives people time to make contact with those they need to and RP heaps!

I will soon schedule the first meeting to happen in about 4 weeks…by then would like to have full list of people who will be the representatives and also have ready a meeting schedule.

If you want to remain secretive about your participation then PM me the details of who will be attending and anything special I need to know about

Fixed Bugs / Death glitch?
« on: April 25, 2005, 07:01:00 pm »
Hey don't know if I will just have to live with this or not but!

I was on with Dal'Venus Suranen and allies in the Beholder caves recently. At the first bridge where the Umber Ulks, beholder and other nasties are the following events occured.
I succumbed to the beholder.
I then tried to respawn.
I respawned next to the grave that had been created where I had just died and was promptly eaten once again by the beholder before I could do anything.
I was then booted from the server as I was bound to the bindstone in Hurm.

When I returned later I had two graves in the one spot.
I can live with the gold I lost but can the lost XP be returned for the second death?

Wild Surge Inn / War in Hlint...
« on: April 17, 2005, 06:28:00 pm »
*A formal notice posted on the wall of the Inn and Courthouse in Hlint*

To those Heroes and Adventures called to Duty to aid in the war against Blood.

Be aware that merely days ago both Blood and Milara attacked Hlint with deadly results.
Prior to that a group of heroes had battled immesurable odds at much cost and sacrifice to themselves to unearth the Lost library.

In retailiation to that Blood sought to exact revenge on those responsible…it also appears much has changed of late with the appearance of the Scorpion and now with the appearance of the Snake in Hlint as well. All must seek more about these….

The war is coming....nay..the war is here on our very doorstep…none are safe.

Do what you were called here to do….find allies…..work together…if we do not all is lost. Do not leave the battle up to the few that carry the fight to the enemy…if you do so we will all be lost!

The way of the Blade:  (Musings of Drayid Morgrath)

To many a piece of steel is merely that, a piece of steel. However at some point a crafter takes it and molds this piece of steel it into a form that is potentially a thing of use.

This thing of use is still an object, that is, until it is taken up and held. At this point it becomes an extension of that persons mind, it acts how they direct it to act, it moves how they direct it to move. If the mind is weak then the actions are random, thus without thought and generally deadly. Deadly to both the weilder and their opponent. If the opponent is weak they will face a slow or painful death. If not then the weilder faces the same, as their opponent will see their weakness and take advantage of it.

A weak mind cannot accept the true purpose of the blade and thus cannot connect to it on a level of bonding, a level of respect and thus can never truly understand its purpose.

One must feel the steel in ones hand, feel its heart and its life beat in a rhythm that matches the weilders own. Once the weilder connects to that beat and the mind and the blade become one only then can you truly dance the way of the blade. Only then does the blade become a source of inspiration and beauty.

Any weak mind can weild a blade and harm others, only one who is prepared to accept the blade and form a bond with it will realise that it truly is a thing of beauty, a thing of great power, for through it the wielder has the power to give or take life within their grasp.

Poetic License / Tarradon's Prayer to Rofirein

O Mighty Dragon,

May your wings lift my soul into the heavens
May your golden scales reflect the light into my heart
May your breath pour over me and fill me with life
May your will be my will.

Let my sword be as your claws, sharp and deadly
Let my body be as your teeth, strong and durable
Let my shield be as my faith in you, Firm and steadfast
May your will be my will.

Help me to be a shield for those who cannot protect themselves
And a light for those trapped in darkness
Guide me with your will.

Dear Mother and Father,

I know I have not written for some time and I hope that at the time you receive this you are both well. I still have not heard from Doric and Ramen and hope that you have. I guess they are busy serving in the King’s army at present. Anthon on the other hand I saw once again a few months ago bringing in shiploads of grain from Mistone to Pranzis. It seems he was making a healthy profit from the food shortages in Dreger at the time. Although I suspect the harbourmasters and the law were keeping a tight reign on merchants making too much of a profit, well that’s what it seemed talking to Anthon and with some of the guards at the town.

Anyway I write to you now to inform you of where I am at in my life and my intentions for the future. It appears a while ago I came to one of those crossroads in my life which I never thought I would meet but which you both always talked about; somehow I suspect that you mother and also Talia it seems, had some inclination of my potential even if I didn’t.

Father, you have always hid it well but I have always known that you were disappointed that I did not take up a position in King Waysend’s army like my older brothers Doric and Ramen. I have admired and respected you all my life but no more than since they went off to war and I chose to instead move to Mistone and work with those based here. I know how much that hurt you after you have spent every spare moment of your time outside work drilling the four of us in the arts of combat and your code of honour and chivalry. You may think that Anthon and I did not always listen but while with Anthon that was true, I always listened. That’s why I so respect and admire you for when I did not chose to join the army you said nothing but gave me encouragement and wished me well. I hope that as I explain further your heart will be put at ease knowing the path I am now pursuing.

Mother, I know that I have brought you unnecessary pain since I moved to Mistone. With the troubles with Master Febris, the drow, the Brotherhood and the sickness and for that I am deeply sorry. I never intended for it to get so out of hand or end up the way things did. I hope that the efforts I went to in securing the cure and quelling Master Febris and the renegade drow’s plans has in some way gone towards showing you how much I love you.

As you know I went through a trying time after that having finally met up with Talia again and finding that she had used me to achieve her goals in dealing with her father. After the feelings I had for her before Febris sent her away I was overjoyed to see her again yet felt betrayed by her actions. I guess as you say the first love is the hardest to overcome. But overcome it I have and I have finally accepted that Talia has become a respected druid in her own right and has her own work to do with the Elven community she’s now living with, and their continuing fight against the drow.

As you both know I have made a number of friendships over the last few years that I hope will stay with me in the years to follow and as I hinted at in my last letter I have met someone who shares common interests with me and well, we are getting along very well and I hope that I will soon have a chance to introduce you to her.
Times being what they are at present however we both have been working hard in training and preparing for the war that you have already been feeling on Dreger for a while now.

Now to come to the point of all this.

As you both know, much to father’s envy, some time ago I was honoured enough to meet High Priest Quintayne and his radiant wife Lady Kasha when they visited Hlint where I have based myself. I know Father that you have always encouraged us to follow the worship of Rofirein and I find that since the day I met the High priest and his Lady I had begun to question and challenge my faith and what it meant to me.

As you know for as long as I can remember I have always loved dragons, probably due to all the stories father told us as kids and Doric always giving Anthon and myself dragon rides all the time. I guess that intense interest and knowing that you Father believed in Rofirein so deeply has helped me to understand and focus on what believing in Rofirein means to me. It has helped that the woman I have been spending some time with is also a worshipper of Rofirein and well, she talks a lot, and then talks some more. It was through her that I met with the High Priest and Lady Kasha once again and was invited to journey with them to Pranzis to see the Grand Temple to Rofirein.

This visit was the most profound experience I have ever had; it was like something that had been lying dormant within me was awakened the first time I set eyes upon the great golden dragons flanking the entrance to the temple. At that moment nothing else in time mattered, I could not hear anything but the sound of mighty wings beating the air with powerful thrusts. After what felt like ages but I would suggest was only a few seconds I was startled back to reality by High Priest Quintayne calling to me to enter the temple with him. I did so and found myself bending knee and praying at the altar.

As much as it might amaze you Father I prayed like I have never prayed before. A feeling of peace and purpose filled me as if I had been a dry field yearning for nourishment. It was a soul drenching experience which left me dazed and confused. I kept asking myself questions like; what was happening to me, what were these feelings filling me, why? Was it like this for everyone?

When I tried to tell High Priest Quintayne what had happened he just smiled at me and said ‘Rofirein calls each of his followers to serve him in their own special way. Some followers do not realise what way that is and for others, well, they find enlightenment.’
I left Pranzis confused yet instilled with a sense that there is more out there that I need to discover. I found a greater awareness in those around me, in the fragility of life and found a sense of purpose to protect that fragility of life. Thoughts troubled me for some time, even talking them over with my friend I was unable to fully grasp what I was feeling.

Then there were the dreams, I could hardly sleep. Every time I closed my eyes there were either dreams of huge flights of mighty dragons flying through clear blue skies, or more often dreams of them fighting and dying in clouds of fire and brimstone, dragons of all colours battling again and again, killing each other until I could take it no more. I travelled again and again to the Grand Temple in Pranzis for only there did my dreams lessen and a peace seem to overcome me. I see now that this was merely a stepping stone to my ultimate destination but let me continue/

I spent numerous days praying in the temple and talking with the clergy there, increasing my knowledge and ultimately my faith in the Great Dragon. It was these times where I found myself most at peace.

After some time one of the Priests who I had become friends with and who has taught me much about Rofirein approached me and asked that if I was willing he would nominate me to be accepted into the order of the Knights of the Wrym. The sword arm of the Church of Rofirein. At that moment I felt a rush of joy, as if deep inside I knew that here finally was a destiny that I could play a part in. I knew that the training and indoctrination would be long and tedious and yet I yearned to begin there and then. Little did I know the joy I felt was part of Rofireins plans for my future unveiling.

I hope that both of you can understand that I did not say anything of this nor did I invite anyone except my sponsor, Sir Remiel Delmir,. a holy Paladin of Toran, to attend the ceremony for acceptance into the order as it was something I wanted to accomplish on my own, like an initiation into life so to speak. I hope you both understand.

As it turned out, fate, and Rofirein, had decided another path for me. I was not accepted into the order but was told by the priest that I was not ready and had to study more about what the temple required of me. I can tell you I was crushed. I had studied so hard; even my sponsor Remial was surprised that I was not accepted.

I thought that it was due to the fact that I had been helping a group desperately trying to quell the uprising of a force of evil, a demon with no remorse. During the trials involved in pursuing the creature we were responsible for taking and ultimately destroying an artefact of Rofirein. It had been kept in a sacred temple hidden from men. It saddened me to think that it was perhaps this that had prevented me from being accepted even though what we did was just and for the protection of all.

Both Remiel and I pondered this curve of fate that had been dealt to me and what would become of me if in fact the temple held me accountable for the loss of the artefact. It was in this moment of time one who I could not say was entirely of this world opened my eyes to the possibility that those within the temple had to some degree lost what it meant to truly serve the will of Rofirein, He then revealed to me a way that I may restore the lost artefact and heal the damage done by us in defeating the demon to those who were most faithful to Rofirein by in fact restoring the artefact itself, rebuilding the sacred temple that housed it and returning it to the eternal guardianship of worshippers of Rofirein called the Ageless.

For my part I was overjoyed to try to do this task, a difficult one to be sure but one which I wanted to fulfil with all my heart. A chance to set things right and redeem myself in the eyes of the church. How soon was my eyes to be opened to that unfulfillable determination.

Over time my trials and journeys awakened within me a realisation that I know that you father, being a devout attendee at services and proclaimer of the doctrine that the church clergy proclaim, may not fully understand. I came to realise that I was being called, called by the will of Rofirein to accept his challenge, the challenge of serving him as he truly wants to be served and to carry out his will.

I set out on my journey and have sacrificed much in my striving to achieve what to many seemed impossible. You should know that those at the Cathedral in Pranzis do not look with favour upon me; they wished the artefact for themselves when I knew that it could not be so. To enable that to happen would mean a great imbalance in the world. I could see how so called leaders of the faith’s outlooks changed when the artefact was mentioned, how those at the Cathedral acted when they felt they had the chance to claim what they considered a great prize. It was all so wrong, I could see that the only place it could truly go was to the place it was originally taken from and entrusted to those who would keep it safe forever.

During this time also I was able to seek out and find a clan of dwarves called the Hammerweavers whose forefathers had originally built the sacred temple that held the artefact. I was able to negotiate with them to rebuild the temple once more to its former glory. An achievement to which I will always remain proud of as the finished product was a wonder to behold.

I was forced therefore to gather stalwart companions to join me as I entered the sacred crypts below the cathedral in Pranzis without the blessings of the clergy and reclaim that which had lain there in secret for ages untold. This item, a holy tome provided me with great insight and knowledge into the will and life of Rofirein. It also gave me the way to restore the artefact. In so doing I learned also that sometimes you have to do things that seem unsavoury and work with people considered in that capacity for the greater good. Such was the case in this instance.

Once we had the Holy Tome we travelled back to the sacred Temple of the Ageless. As I said earlier it was a wonder to behold. We entered that place where here finally I completed the final stage of my awakening. Here I learned more about Rofirein and what it is to truly serve him than I learnt in my entire life. I found wellsprings of wisdom within me deep inside that sprang forth giving me new and fresh insight into the sacred duties of serving the Mighty Dragon. I was both humbled and awed by the honour and the sacrifice that comes with service to all who dwell in the darkness and need to be shown the light.

In that place I was challenged to understand the true meaning of faith, love and sacrifice; to protect those who cannot protect themselves and to protect those you would not normally want to protect. The tests I faced left me physically and mentally drained and weakened but I found myself filled with a sense of the holy will of Rofirein.

I write to you now from a small room I have been staying at in Lorindar as I rest and recuperate from the events of the past few months and spend some time reading about the wonders of Rofirein from the Holy Tome I was allowed to keep for a short time. Soon I shall return it to its final resting place.

And so as I draw this letter to a close I wanted to let you know that I would like to visit you both some time in the next month before I head back to the place where I started on this journey. There are people there I need to see again, and in the current times, dangers that I will be required to help deal with.

May the Wings of the Dragon enfold you with love, his Scales protect you and his Claws give you the strength to face life without fear,

Your loving son,

Tarradon Duvall
