Fixed Bugs / This will require an in-game
« on: November 12, 2016, 11:39:40 pm »

This will require an in-game action by a GM to clear. Any GM should be able to do it.

Let us know when you're likely to be on or try and see if I'm available on IRC if you don't have any luck. As a warning, my personal availability is going to be pretty sparse for the next week or so, but there are others who could help you.

Fixed Bugs / I think I found the reason
« on: November 09, 2016, 11:46:47 pm »

I think I found the reason for this and it should be a simple fix. What I'm not sure about right now is if I have all the necessary files needed to rebuild the script(s) of if I need to pull orth out of stasis.

Dragon Retribution / Maybe it's the drink or maybe
« on: November 09, 2016, 10:51:06 pm »

Maybe it's the drink or maybe it's just really hard to locate a specific halfling in a city in crisis, but whatever the case, Vrebel cannot seem to locate those he is searching for, at least not out in the open.

((At least for now, Acacea is in the midst of a task, and I'll let Gulnyr pipe in if Jennara might happen to be around where Vrebel is.))

I might have some time this weekend. Let me know some days/times when you might be on between Friday and Sunday.

Dragon Retribution / The bartender calmly pockets
« on: November 02, 2016, 09:45:03 pm »

The bartender calmly pockets the coins in a practiced way. Though he doesn't count the "tip", his experience tells him much by the weight of the pouch, and he can be heard muttering something about closing early.

Perhaps coincidentally, that particular bartender is not seen again for at least the next week.

« on: November 02, 2016, 08:43:47 pm »

Confirmed that the house was emptied in the database, so those must be left over from someone activating the door.

Soon as I can reset the server, everything should go away.

Ask A Gamemaster / I'm unable to check at this
« on: November 02, 2016, 08:06:33 am »

I'm unable to check at this moment whether or not I wiped the furniture from the house (though I'm pretty sure I did). It's possible that someone activiated the door, causing the furniture to populate before I wiped the database. If that's the case, a restart will flush out the remnants.

In either case, thanks for letting me know it's OK to fully wipe the furniture. That was going to be my first question.

Fixed Bugs / There are in fact three kinds
« on: October 31, 2016, 11:33:06 pm »

There are in fact three kinds of Queen Spiders (in order of difficulty):

1) Regular
2) CNR
3) Spinning

The last two both produce CNR, but one is used primarily for poison and the other for silk.

All three are in use in one place or the other. This is as intended.

"If yer not mindin' gettin' dead yerself by handlin' them plague bodies," he gets as an answer. "I'm hearin' that whisperin' one is set up in the central district. Not sure about a jingling one, but sounds like that one ain' gonna be hard to find."

Ask A Gamemaster / You can have a GM fix this
« on: October 31, 2016, 12:14:56 am »

You can have a GM fix this in-game. Arrange some time with one to have your head fixed.

Before you do this, however, you need to figure out which head is the correct one. Do this either by starting (but not creating) a new character of the same gender and race and counting the heads forward from 1 until you find the right one. It can also be done by using the toolset by associating a module with the Layo HAKs and building a creature (of course with the same gender/race) and recording the numeric ID of the correct head.

My action list was in a later post.

House 204 was not reclaimed...yet.

Dragon Retribution / In a section of Hurm somewhat
« on: October 26, 2016, 11:35:23 pm »

In a section of Hurm somewhat off the main path, but no less populated, an eccentrically-clothed halfling with a tangle of black hair moves about a series of twisty and criss-crossing streets, passing the same locations several times in some instances. Those telling the story of this somewhat unusual sight claim the small woman could be heard sometimes uttering a colorful phrase or three upon passing the same way several times, as well as a few phrases that were definitely not in Common but whose meaning was relatively evident from the way they were uttered.

Eventually, she is seen entering a temple dedicated to Lucinda. Later, in local taverns and inns, this last fact seems a rather fitting end to all the other details of the tale being told over tankards of ale. In at least one instance, the conversation turns to other strange sightings, being billed as "completely true" and all the other pseudo-assurances that accompany tall tales being shared along with several rounds of drinks.

« on: October 22, 2016, 11:52:50 pm »

We're actually up to 3.62 at the moment (soon to be 3.63). Updates are incremental (and generally minor) at the moment and definitely "as needed". There has been very little movement, and new systems are unlikely, though new content is possible, depending.

Dragon Retribution / Of note because of quickness
« on: October 19, 2016, 11:50:46 pm »

Of note because of quickness of movement, Jennara moves quickly and deftly through the city, visiting a number of Lucindite sites throughout Hurm and its immediate outskirts, apparently in search of something though also apparently with some good information about where to go specifically. These visits take place over several days as her duties and the needs of her commands and those indirectly in her care permit.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, a somewhat conspicuous halfling pays several visits to a marketplace a bit off the usual path. While still busy in its own right, the locals know the foot traffic there has been much reduced since the plague started. Of course the shops and taverns in the general area provide their own amusements as well to the one known as Acacea, and she seems more interested in eyeing things and generally interacting with and listening to the local population than actually buying anything.

« on: October 17, 2016, 04:28:07 pm »

The houses listed above have been returned to the market. I've slowly pushed them back out over the last week.

The three flagged for needing a module update (104, 241, 260) are going to be locked and the locks will be changed until the module can be updated.

We'll see how this round goes before doing another sweep.

Also, moved this to the proper forum.

Sorry, I was blinded by my incoherent rage at green clad crier men *grins*

It happens.

There's a support group for that.

It's not a very good support group.

Mostly they just say "get over it".

Still, they say it in a caring and supportive way.

As a group.

Yes, something is wrong with the system that is supposed to keep the forums and the in-game town crier up-to-date. I've cleaned out the old messages on both ends.

Also, moved this to the proper forum.

I noticed the arcane alliance tower is not on that list.  Is the location still being used or was it removed long ago.

Was thinking sometime down the road, Lia would try to reclaim the tower as her own.

The tower is not on the list because its registered owner has been seen in-game since the cut-off I used for this first pass. Also, it has changed hands since the days of the Arcane Alliance, so technically Lia would have no "claim" on it any longer. However, if in the next pass, this guild hall qualifies  as being abandoned by its current owner/members, an opportunity would exist for a guild to acquire the tower.

Clarity seeking:

Players will each consider their own lore based power level (as opposed to mechanical) when writing their posts/actions.

I'm not sure what "lore based power level" refers to, so I'm guessing neither do most other people :P

My guess is that this wasn't meant to ignore mechanical skill levels entirely (despite the wording) but rather say that if a character has a high skill level at one thing, and none or little at another, that the former is used in posts/actions and not the latter to avoid the need for skill checks. If you have experience in something (which is represented mechanically through skill points that may have sort of meta-adjustments behind the scenes from quests etc), or someone (previous quest ties and such) then do that, not things outside the bounds of your experience. Is this correct?

(edited to allow for established NPC relationships outside of skills)

More or less, yes.

We're essentially trying to encourage looking beyond simply the sea of numbers on a character sheet. These things still bear some importance of course, but what we're looking for here is less the hard restrictions of the character sheet itself and more how world lore and other character developments define the character beyond mechanics.

As an example, people often look at spell lists for their casters and think "Gosh, these are the only tools in my bag." While we understand that mechanically these are the only tools in the bag, quest situations often involve some creative uses of magic that do not necessarily map directly to defined spells. We'd like the same sorts of thought processes to apply here. Keep in mind what your classes are and mean, how they work, etc.

Associations, titles or other capabilities gained from quests (generally from CDQs, WLDQs and/or plot quests, but other instances have occurred) that do not map to mechanical abilities should also be kept in mind. "Secondary" abilities like crafting...think less of "Well, I've reached the 20th circle in Alchemy, and I can make that potion with 90% success rate" and more of "I am an alchemist of no small degree of skill and expertise..." and consider the potential for using Alchemy in ways that may not exactly overlap a defined recipe but rather use those same IC skills in a creative way.

Also though, we don't want people to use the forums' opportunity for greater narratives to overstep the capabilities of a character.

Example: "I, Schmendrick The Pure call down the full might of my powerful God to smite this unholy boss-level enemy!!!" said no 5th level Cleric ever with any degree of success. Ever.

So basically, the lore-based power level does include mechanical things, but what's more important to us is the intent behind those mechanics, what they mean in an RP sense. Our characters are, afterall, much more than the sum of their stats.

And of course...if you're not sure if something's possible, just ask! Or worst-case, we adjust what was written to keep things in line with a character's capabilities.
