Trade and Market Hall / Want to buy: Gloves to add strength
« on: April 17, 2006, 06:19:16 am »
*written in a neat hand*

The large fellow named Pig is looking for gloves or gauntlet to add to his already considerable strength.  If you have ones of exceptional quality seek him out or send a bird with instructions for meeting.  He offers coins and "whiskey juice."

*apparently added as an afterthought in the margin*  If sending a bird, do be sure it is swift as he appears constantly hungry.

*signed in an obviously different hand* PiG

((Looking for +2 STR gloves.  Either exceptional gloves of fury, gauntlets of ogre power.

LORE Ideas, Suggestions and Requests / Basic crafting page
« on: April 16, 2006, 07:14:18 am »
A recently added page has an overview of crafting.  (LORE not responding at the moment or I'd post link.)  I'd request that:

1. Mention that the recipe index cards are optional.  Describe what they're useful for and how to use them.
2. Mention the need to purchase a crafting badge.  Describe where to purchase one (off menus, not off craft merchant inventory).
3. Mention craft merchants as being a source for many basic components (bottles, yeast, patterns, etc.)

Thanks!

Any GMs willing to flex their muscles and get Pig down off a cliff?  A port to my party would be most welcome as well.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Certificates of authenticity
« on: March 25, 2006, 11:43:35 am »
No scripting required for this one.  An iron sword is an iron sword, right?  Wrong!  Not when it comes with a LORE parchment with the weapons history recorded on it.  Perhaps it is an iron sword once owned by a great Dwarf cleric of Dorand, blessed in the temple in Lar on such-and-such a date, used to slay a party of Blood's raiders on such-and-such a date, etc. etc.

Now how much would you pay for that sword?

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / campfire length increase
« on: March 24, 2006, 05:14:19 am »
I enjoy the RP opportunities that campfires provide, but the length of four minutes is a bit short.  Perhaps an increase in duration?  Another alternative would be to allow wood to be burned.  Or make tinder stackable.  (A stack of 10 tinder, when dropped and lit, would burn for 40 minutes.)

Though I like the idea of the kegs in guild hall taverns, I would like to suggest that the drinks that come out of them are single-use and not full bottles.  Several ways to do this:

1. Make the bottles received have a single use rather than a full set of uses (some drinks have 5 charges).
2. Require the pourer to have an empty brewing bottle in inventory and on use of the keg put a single charge into an empty bottle.  (Or bartender would place the empty bottle into the keg's inventory to have a charge added.)
3. Make new CNRable mugs (made of wood, clay, or glass) that are wieldable.  Bartender must have mug in hand when using the keg and a single charge of the drink is put into the mug.  (I've seen wieldable mugs on another server so assume they're available on the vault.)

Choice number two seems the most reasonable to implement.  This removes the "free" brewing bottle that comes from the kegs too.

Another reason for single use is just that sometimes it's just not possible to finish off a full bottle due to not being thirsty enough.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Some more difficult brewing recipes
« on: March 15, 2006, 06:53:00 am »
Some more complex brewing recipes would be fun.  Shall I suggest some or are CNR recipes a unchanging system?

The NPC Melle, being the fine hostess she is, has taken it upon herself not to let any leave her fine establishment.  She stands, either drunk or defiant, in front of the doorway and no matter the amount of bad breath Pig spills down on her she refused to budge.

If any GM could come and nudge good Melle aside, I'd sure like to get out.

Thanks!

Trade and Market Hall / Wanted: shield, belt, amulet
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:45:09 am »
((OOC

My PC has been asking around for the following items.  He neither reads nor writes so consider these requests to be word of mouth around Pranzis and Hlint.

Pig (Koppig Varken) has been asking for:

1. "adamanamanium big blocker" (adamantium tower or kite shield)
2. necklace of shield I
3. belts w/ resistance to cold, fire, etc. (leather belt w/ highest resistance a lvl 10 can use would be great)
4. heavy flails other than iron w/ elec I (he'd buy ones he could only use at higher levels now as well)

Trade and Market Hall / Wanted: Hops and other brewing supplies
« on: February 24, 2006, 05:03:57 am »
From his place of concealment within a bush, the halfling watches the approach of the half-giant Pig.  The leaves quiver with each lumbering step and the pungent odor of cooked fish grows in intensity.  Finally, at the proper moment, a halfling blur erupts from the foliage to strike at the near leg of the foe.  Small arms aiming for a knee, as the legs slice towards the ankle.  In a moment it is over.  The half-giant's progress halted.

"Is Pig stepper in trail mix?"  Pig queries, sniffing the air curiously and looking down for any sign of ox and horse dung.  With a laughing snort, he lifts the ponderous foot off the halflings chest.  "Is yous! What doing?"

Clutching at his chest as he lies sprawled on the dusty path, the wee fellow only manages a squeak in return.  His breath escapes him once again as Pig's large dirty hand encircles his chest to lift him to a standing position.

"By all the gods, Pig!" croaks the halfling.  "How is it you weigh so much?"

Dropping the ever-present flail to the path, Pig unslings a bulky bag.  Unlike much of Pig's belongings, this one actually emits a pleasant fruity odor as it is opened, accompanied by the gentle clink of empty bottles.

"Pig is much heavies with cookerings stuffs," says the half-giant with a crooked smile.  "Pig is for learn makering whiskey juice!"

"Would it not be, umm, simpler to purchase said beverage?"

"You is mean pay shinies for?"  Pig queries with a snort of contempt.  "Them is want lot shinies for do.  Somes thems drinkers tasting like water too."

Opening the various pouches and boxes contained within the large one, the halfling nods with a surprised look on his face.  "Pig, how is it you know what to gather?  These items are the basis for a good number of recipes."

"Pig know somes good cooker.  Them cooker lot good foodings for he and teller hims what for get.  Pig find lot thing but not can find any hoppy flower."

"Hops? Hmmm, yes that would be an issue.  Let us write a notice then, perhaps there is someone of the wood and field that might assist.  Have you any parchment Pig?"

Nodding, Pig opens up a greasy once-white box and pulls a piece of cooked fish out wrapped in dirty paper.  Stuffing the fish into his mouth, he hands it over to the halfling.

Mouth agape, the halfing stares at the nearly undecipherable words on the paper.  Shaking his head with a sigh, he flips the scroll of bull's strength over to the blank side and writes a short note.

"Sign here Pig and we'll post it here in Hlint."

Good folk of Hlint, the half-giant Pig is in search of brewing supplies of all sort.  He is specifically interested in finding and purchasing hops.  Boxes full of other ingredients will be bought as well.  Too, if you yourself are a brewer it might benefit the community as a whole to instruct him in the finer details of the craft.  I point to matters of hygiene as the highest concern (have you seen his fingernails!?).

((Here is the thread with brewing recipes

http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=16329&posts=21

Since I have 0xp in cooking, just bring the raw ingredients (ie. don't make the wort or sugar yourself).  Pig will purchase mixed boxes of grains, berries, and raw sugar.  As you can see there is a varied choice of herbs required in many of the recipes (skull cap, belladona), as well as things like crushed pearls, goblin ears, milk, and holy water.

I would like to purchase the simpler ones from lower level PCs to help them get started with some coin.  Expect to get a couple hundred coins for a box of the stuff (herb bags may be purchased for 20 coins or so and I'll reimburse for those as well in the price).

Edit: Removed question about hops.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Level req for resistance
« on: February 19, 2006, 05:46:44 am »
I see a very nice thread for level req for enchanting weapons of various materials.  Is there a similar one for resistance?

I'd also like to know how it works.  What type of items can it be placed on?  (Like could it be placed on a leather belt or just armor or...?)

General Discussion / Military organizations
« on: February 18, 2006, 02:33:27 pm »
I'd like to begin fleshing out an idea for a guild-like organization.  Here's what I'm thinking:

1st Mountain Division:  Strict military discipline followed, with order expected to be RP followed.  This would be for those wishing to RP a professional soldier.

2nd Desert Division:  RP by leader left open, but followers are more of the disobedient type when it comes to all things except getting the job done.  A lot of bravado, boasting, etc.

They are under a common commander (perhaps NPC, perhaps PC).

There would be roles for all the PCs as they grow in tenure.

Captain - Responsible for all matters and has final say on discipline, etc.
2nd in command
Cook
Quartermaster
Scribe
Scout
etc.

So, the captain might issue orders that everyone be outfitted with a supply of projectiles of their choice (arrows, bolts, shurikens, whatever).  The quartermaster would have to fulfill this order, perhaps tasking the members with gathering a list of resources (kind of like collecting for the war effort).  The crafters of the unit (or perhaps contract the order out to another group) would assemble the components.

Cooks would be required to prepare meals for the next expedition (whiskey, filling meals, whiskey, juices, whiskey, pies).

You get the point.

Now, since many of the spawns are known, they would be the "expeditions."  For example, a high-RP attack on a group of ogres down a certain mine.  Could even involve getting needed quests for members (bugbear, grey peak, etc.).  The point of this, though, would primarily to be to RP your PC in such an organization.  Is he a quiet and efficient scout?  A bumbling leader?  A cleric with a lack of faith?

The two divisions would have a friendly rivalry.  They're on the same team, just always trying to outdo the other.  That sort of thing.

These would be inclusive guilds; any can RP their way in.  However, there could be in-character contracts involved.  Are there dues?  Is gear to be returned when you unenlist?  What happens when orders are disobeyed?

I'm still searching for a purpose for my PC and really would like to join an organization.  Not having seen even a hint of any in my time on Layonara, I'll have to go with the saying:  "If it's going to be, it's up to me."

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Dragon Isle danger
« on: February 16, 2006, 12:30:43 pm »
Those travelling out of Fort Velensk for the Dragon Isles will see a half-giant standing at the base of the gangplank.  He looks to be in a terrible state, clearly having just been whisked away from danger by the soul mother.  If queried, he relays a tale of giant angry trees swarming the dock on the Dragon Isles and the retreat of the captain to safety aboard his ship.  Any trips there will end in a rough landing, if the captain puts ashore at all.

((Until next server reset, there is no captain for a return ride from the Dragon Isles and who knows what foes await your arrival.  Sorry about that.
