Character Development Quests (CDQ's) / twidget658 - Sea Dog - [CLOSED]
« on: November 10, 2008, 05:49:19 pm »
Hello there!

You should expect a fair amount of NPC interaction on my quests. Sometimes, things are not as they initially appear...or are they? I stress RP over combat, but I do like to have challenges and test the character (and player, but mostly tactically). Not every battle needs to be fought.

Failure of the CDQ is not necessarily a 'failure'. Everything has consequences. It may not be exactly what you wanted, it may be better, it may be worse.

 Available times: PST (Washingston State)
 8pm - 11pm (M-F)
 10am - 10pm (Sat)
 1pm -11pm (Sun)

 CDQs in Progess:

General Discussion / World Announcement! *claps*
« on: October 29, 2008, 03:46:12 pm »
May I present to you an announcement that will shake the foundations of countries all over the globe:

"The coolest person ever was born on Friday the 24.th of October! I present to you, my newly born daughter - Tilde!"

This means that I will not be able to check the forums as often in the upcoming weeks. Nor will I be able to be present in-game a lot. I'll check my inbox as often as time allows it of course, but patience is a virtue.

(pronounciation of 'Tilde' in English is awkward :))

Rumour Has It / Word out of Willows Weep
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:50:07 pm »
Throughout the chaos of the war against Sinthar Bloodstone, and beyond the end of the war and the Dark Ages that descended upon Layonara, the Tomb of Lost Heroes has remained a largely quiet and dormant place. The very place meant to ensure that the Lost are not forgotten was itself forgotten amongst the greater concerns of the age.  The news of new and foul plots in the world, the prospect of another war and further hardship for the world seem to dominate the talks where people gathered. The minds of most are on their futures, not on the fate of heroes who have passed from mortal life.

Yet in recent weeks, whispers then rumors begin to float through towns and cities, speaking of the Tomb in Willows Weep and of how it has been cleared of the neglect of decades.  Rumors speak of an anonymous benefactor who wishes the past not be forgotten. Still other rumors say it is the work of locals who felt the Tomb deserved to live up to its name.  Whatever the real story may be, one thing is consistent throughout all reports:

The Tomb of Lost Heroes is "alive" with new monuments to the fallen.

Which heroes past have been enshrined?  The tales and stories of such are as varied as those who tell them.  There's only one way to know for sure...

Rumour Has It / Goldwin Blacknight - Life of a Hero
« on: October 16, 2008, 01:43:46 pm »
It is with the greatest of sadness that I write this letter to inform all those who knew Goldwin Blacknight, of his passing. He died as he lived protecting the innocent and less fortunate. He died saving the life of a child. There can be no greater sacrifice given, than a life given to save another.

I write to tell you of his courageous spririt, of his giving heart. Of a friend who will be missed and never forgotten. He always offered to help where he could, and protect those he loved with a understanding that his life was lived for more than just the trivial possesions, but to help those who needed him to become better people.

I am one of those who became better for knowing him and I will never forget my treasured friend.

Goldwin Blacknight will be sorely missed, walk always in the light Goldwin Blacknight.

With a deep respect and fond friendship,
 ~Elohanna Dawnstar

Layonara Server / Donations & The Future of NWN
« on: October 01, 2008, 11:36:47 pm »
Hello again,

I've received a couple queries to the status of donations which I wanted to address with the upcoming changes to the servers.

Essentially what we've always hoped for in terms of donations was enough to offset the costs to host NWN.  That was five servers and their bandwidth.  At its peak, Leanthar was paying over $500 a month for these servers.  Over the summer it was closer to $300, but the charges were going to be over $1000 a month with the new billing structure.  An impossible price.

The donations always helped and each of us was always afraid of the potential of Leanthar just really not being able to cut it any more.  I lost sleep when he told me of the new pricing and the inevitability of the downtime.  In the end Leanthar and I both had many reasons for finding every way possible to keep NWN going.  Despite the financial weight which could be better spent, the occasional stress, the time lost better spent on future development, we really want NWN to keep serving our world.

There are a lot of people who help right now, the developers, the gamemasters, the character approvers, the lore team, the writers, the mmo team who have all helped us in the direction we seek and to continue to serve Layonara as a magnificent world realized in the form of a video game.  To not bridge the time from now until the release of the mmo with a video game entity of Layonara would in our minds have been a disservice to everyone who helps out.  Then there's the rest of the community, those who have been here for long times and those of you who have just fallen in love with Layonara.  Despite the very limited amount of rotten apples in the orchard, we really enjoy hearing about the great times you've had.  Your creative outlets both in game and in the forums.  Your community spirit and support.

It is also no secret, we are hoping each of you will see NWN to the other side, and give us a chance in our future generation. Having even a fairly small starting community will be a boon to attracting more folks.  Especially those very well versed in roleplay and its potential for enjoyment.  And I certainly know the benefits in terms of seeking beta testers with technical aptitude.  I truly hope we can carry this weight that NWN can sometimes be across the bridge.  There are still concerns beyond the financial strain.  The most important being time dealing with the inevitable issues that serving the world brings up.

Finally on a personal note, where would I be without having some Plenarius time?  I'm not ready to just write him off in a story, I want to play it out where it all started.

So we have taken quite a downsize, we've lost 7 servers, 5 for NWN which will be combined into 2 in Montreal. 1 for DB and fileshare, and 1 to run West and Central. We'll probably have to do without a Quest server unless we can run a third module on the one server, which Dorganath and I doubt.  We also lost 2 of our development servers.   All of our hosting, 5 servers, is now in Montreal. 4 of these are paid by OneST8, one of them is piggy backed with some of our (him and I) other personal pages.  The 5th one we're getting tomorrow/Friday will be paid by me.  The tasks the 2 development servers from San Jose handled are now squeezed into the 3 remaining servers in Montreal. We have assurances from EdTheKet, Dorganath and Thak that they can help the financial strain if necessary.

So here's the deal, if you want to keep helping out to say thanks for fronting the cost of the bandwidth and server for NWN, keep donating.  With that said, the truth is that we will continue to eat the costs ourselves regardless if you donate or not as the servers will be used for our future whether they host NWN or not.  NWN Layonara is in good hands for now, but be willing to accept its inevitable departure, hopefully with fair warning.

If you want to say thanks to Leanthar for all he's paid in the past until now then donate.  (Expenses incurred are over $20,000, that is minus all past donations.)
If you want to help OneST8 and I foot the bill, hey thanks... donate. (Average monthly bill for the two NWN servers will be $200)
If you're excited about our future and wish to help us in that regard, donations are welcome.

To recap, you owe us nothing but continuing to enjoy the world, or if you have the time, continuing to volunteer as you can and hopefully you will give us a chance with the future generation of Layonara.

If for whatever reason you just can't donate.  It's cool, don't feel bad, we'll do our best to stay alive. Alas, all good things eventually come to an end, but we're pretty confident we'll have a phoenix rising from the ashes.  Hope to see you there to witness it!

-James

" As we descended we came upon the last dwarven tunnel, a hallway that led to a large natural cavern. The hall was rough as though the cutters broke through into the cavern and left their duties of perfecting the path for another time, one that never came. Thus began a descent deeper and deeper, tunnels not dug by hands but burrowed or even eaten from the solid core of the mountain high above us lead from cavern to cavern. No more level rooms were to be found as we went down, further and further into Layonara. The simple clans and beasts from above grew scarce as deeper and fouler beasts, some that have never seen the sun, turned common and our group now trekked slowly and carefully."

About a month or so ago I tendered my resignation to Layonara team. I used to be able to crank out hours upon hours of building on top of playing the game for hours on end. These days I can't really find committed time to fulfill my duties as a full time quest GM on top of growing our little garden of NWN Layonara. I thought about clinging onto the GM seat, I really did. But all I'd end up doing is passing judgement or chiming in my steady opinion from afar without an inkling or grasp of our community. So it's time to call it quits.

When I started off with the relic based entry theme/ system, I built a good chunk of new material. It was closed and locked off waiting for completion both in building and the scripting needed to successfully implement it. Also, older material that had been converted was locked off. Since Dorg finalized 1.69 several weeks ago, I picked up the modules for one last swing and wrapped everything up that I was capable of handling on my own, with a little help on puzzle scripting from ScriptWrecked (thanks script).

The major new addition to the server is the region of the Great Spikes of the Blinding Lands, implemented as closely to Ed's team's new writings on it as I could muster knowing all the potentials of the toolset... of course with ample spins and twists on it to appropriately get an amused growl from Ed. The adventure of these northern realms is pretty neat. It's an older and perhaps simpler vibe, one that I had a lot of fun working on. And the GM who first picks up on the nature of the region and the number of quests to be had here is lucky. All in all around 70 areas that were either locked off or didn't yet exist are now in game and waiting for you. There are also a couple of new quest areas to get things kicking on quests. Beyond that it's the normal fixes here and there, trying to wrap the monster that was too hard here, and the area that needed a bit of love there.

I've had a great time working on this module, and hope you guys liked what came of v3. I'll support fixes for the next couple of weeks to make sure nothing is quirky, and after that I'll still be around playing.

Just for Fun / Why work and play should never mix
« on: September 25, 2008, 12:27:11 pm »
Had a fairly messed up dream last night.  It began with a few of my friends telling me that they had gotten us a new house (currently househunting irl) so I figured, hey, great!  Went to visit them in this dimly lit run down building downtown, which for some strange reason had a produce store with vegetables on display and a cash register.  "Dude, this is a store, what are we selling produce now?"  "no no no man, the living space is in the back, come back here".  Ok, I thought, maybe not so bad.  Went to the back and there was this HUGE Home Depot sized warehouse which didnt seem to have any particular theme at all, it was like a massive eBay bonanza warehouse. (currently work in a home renovation warehouse).  Ok what gives man...  At this point I start realizing that before all of this I was just sitting in my room (before I went to sleep, heheh) and instead of just figuring out that I was dreaming, I started screaming at them, "what is all of this?  I don't even remember coming here!  what year is this?  It was just 09/23/08!"  I'm all thinking that I suffered some kind of amnesia, and they're telling me its been 2 years since then.  That we're now in the post apocalypse.

All of the sudden there some hard knocking on the front door and all of my friends scatter in the warehouse.  "Open the door, NOW!  Open up!"  Oh great, they tricked me into tresspassing or trying to steal something, now the police are here...  So I figure that the cops probably have the place surrounded already, and being an overweight smoker theres no way in heck I'm going to manage fleeing this place, and I'm already ticked off at my friends so I might as well rat them all out for a reduced sentence.  So I let the guy in, and it's Ronnie Cordova from the sockbaby.com martial arts/comedy series.  He's all sweating bullets, freaking out and ranting about how we have to get out of here, now, with his hair slicked back dressed in his aviator sunglasses and leisure suit.  Huh?  What the heck is a P.I. doing here?  Shouldn't he be protecting the Sockbaby?  Where's Burger?

So Ronnie Cordova now sprints out the front exit of the store. *shrug* I go back into the warehouse to try and find out where those buggers are who even tricked me into coming here are, and why I don't remember anything for the past 2 years.  Now the warehouse is infested by rats and dire rats.  And not only that, they appear to be the NWN dire rats that for no good reason have demonic voices and scream "your soul is mine!" all echoey and stuff.  I look down and I'm completely naked and unarmed... eeep!

I run around the massive random item warehouse looking for ANYTHING that can be used as a weapon, a blunt object, anything, but the prospects look grim.  Baby-wets-herself dolls, placemats, pirated DVDs, and finally, aha!  Tiny 2 inch pocket knives!  "what the heck, 1d4 is 1d4" I distinctly remember saying aloud.  I sprint around stabbing the smallest of the rats with it, pinning them down and twisting as they go "eeee! eee! eeeee!".  I finally come across a pallete of concert T-shirts in the warehouse, Blind Guardian I think, and think to myself... "aha!  Now I just need some pants!" and scour the place until I find a pair of cargo shorts and a pair of sandals.  Not much, but at least the rats dont get a clean shot on my bum... I'm still wary about kicking them unless I find some decent shoes though, (rabies!) and that would be so much easier than getting on all fours and stabbing them with a 2 inch blade.  In fact, I dont even know why I wasnt just punching them.

N00bly equipped in the worst sense ever, I then stumble upon the motherload crate...  cheaply made swords!  The kind that say "made in china" on them, that you'd typically find in a spencers or RPG shop and you could likely sunder with a broomstick.  Ah well! better than the 2 inch pocket knife.  So I appropriately pocket the pocket knife and pick out the best flimsy, poorly constructed, unsharpened sword for myself in my main hand, and run around with another the same size in my offhand, not so much to use, but just in case I run into any allies in the warehouse, like my friends who were hiding.  The rest of the dream devolved into hacking apart dog-sized, demonic voiced dire rats.  I think I might have made level two.

The moral of the story?  Don't fall asleep right after playing NWN and watching sockbaby online while you're househunting, especially if you work in a warehouse for a living.  That combination just isn't good for your mental health.

Roleplaying / Refusing to heal the overtly evil is evil?
« on: September 23, 2008, 04:22:01 pm »
In reference to the pending case here...

http://forums.layonara.com/disputes-grievances-request-reimbursements/195272-iradril-arkenrahel-good-evil-shift-back-good-pending.html

I post here seperately as to not interfere with the flow of the debate and logs and documentation from the people who were actually there, though wanted to address the morality behind the situation.

When is it an evil act to kill an evil dark elf who is currently in the process of torturing somebody?  This dark elf was actively whipping Iradril's friends he was sworn to protect.  Maybe if Iradil had stopped by the body to torture it in return I would see that as evil, but he simply refused to give her aid.  Goodly clerics are SUPPOSED to do this when they come across goodly people of other faiths heretical to their gods, Toranites and Lucindites aren't likely to raise eachother or even bless eachother.  A Lucindite of good faith is likely to leave a Corathite to bleed to death in a ditch, good riddance.  Would a Prunillite really go out of their way to heal a dying Pyrtechite who had a history of setting their barn on fire?  Deity opposition and religious oaths aside, and simply a moral measure... would it really be so wrong to not heal somebody who was killed in self defense?

Say you were walking your girlfriend home and a mugger hopped out of the bushes, drew a blade and started threatening to rape and murder her with it.  If you or your GF then grabbed the knife from his hand and stabbed him in the neck with it, causing a mortal wound, and you knew that he was a member of a local gang who called this area their turf, who would gladly slaughter you and she both in response were lurking nearby, are you really going to stop and apply first aid?  NO! You get the heck out of there and protect the person you love first and foremost!  If that guy didnt deserve a knife in his neck, he wouldnt have ben waving it at you in the first place!  For a good person, heck for all people, the primary concern is with the ones you love, family and friends.

Now dark elves are at a level of evil above and beyond most serial murderers.  This is pounded into our heads again and again, they are eeevil, killed on sight in the goodly city, and we are in a perpetual state of war with them.  So when you have the Layonaran equivalent of a Richard Ramirez eater of babies dark elf in the process of trying to torture or kill one of your allies, I have trouble seeing simply not healing them as anything more than a neutral act, possibly good.  Does Indiana Jones get evil points when he shoots the nazi who is torturing his father, or grinds up the Kali worshipping slavedriver who was beating Short Round?  Do Hempstead guards get evil points when they obey the law that says "kill dark elves on sight, regardless of temperment or reason for being there?"  Think about it, Iradril is deemed as acting evil in this case for simply not healing a dark elf which tortured his friends that was nearly killed in self defense.  What does this speak for the guards who it is their sworn duty to kill on sight every dark elf they spot?  Does that make all Hempsteadians "evil" for not standing up, drawing their weapons and facing down the guards to protect the dark elf?  If you do nothing while you see a guard kill somebody on sight who you've seen do nothing wrong, its not considered evil, and yet if you simply dont heal somebody who was just seen by you torturing your friend and who had a city of like-minded dark elves nearby who would kill you and your friends for sheer pleasure, is it really evil just to simply do nothing and let them die?

Furthermore, they were on a somewhat clandenstine operation.  In order to save their country and possibly the free world, they need to infiltrate this place.  What about the FBI man who wears a wire and witnesses a mob shooting?  He could either try to do his job gathering evidence and take down this murdering mob boss and his entire organization so they wont be able to kill again, or he could blow his cover and immediately start performing first aid on the informant they just shot.  How long do you think he would live after that?  Will he suffer a loss of his soul in simply not getting himself killed for the ill-concieved sake of  kneejerk emotional morality?  Does this make every protaganist in a John Woo film... evil?

These people were on a mission trying to save lives and potentially the world.  An evil evil dark elf who we are told constantly should be killed on sight for all that is good got killed only after showing her obvious foul temperment and intent to cause suffering to perfect strangers.  If refusing to heal this dark elf was an evil act, then I would charge much of the same to every Lucindite who refuses to raise or heal a Toranite, and every Voraxian who would refuse to heal a Grandite from near death.  The only possible way I could see Iradril as being evil in this instance were if he was unsatisfied with simply letting the evil, vile, abusive dark elf die, and were to heal her back simply to torture her for hours on end, or at least defile her body.  If he simply took no action, and didnt even try to finish the job, then he acted in this case with more compassion and mercy than the Hempstead guards or any member of the Mistonian Military would have done.  Are the latter two groups then officially... "evil"?

In my opinion, only a VERY diehard fanatic follower of Azatta or Aeriden would see evil here, and they are the absolute extremes of good to the point of martyrdom.  When clergy of LG Vorax would gladly "put her out of her misery", a Lucindite would shrug and move on, and Captain Trent, the bastion of goodness with a heart of gold (or so his description says) would do far worse, then I would compare all of these to Iradril and conclude that this was no evil act.  It was the act of a person with above a 6 intelligence score who didnt want to blow his whole mission and get his entire party killed out of fanatical moralist protest.  Now if there was something in his emote like he laughed coldy or kicked the body as it bled to death, that is evil RP.  I didnt see any of that in the logs.

Now I know evil.  Gloom would have bound her up, healed her and sold her to Kartharian pleasure slavers or made her join a deep dwarven city's chain gang mining salt for the next 800 years... or if he took it personally would have tortured her until she begged Sulterio for mercy then laughed "Mercy?  Sulterio has no mercy!" and killed her anyway with a terrifyied expression on her face.  Grovel would have cut off her arms and legs, eaten them, fed the rest back to her so she could taste how yummy dark elves were, and tortured her over the course of several years to teach him elven while she was chained to a wall in some remote cavern, feeding her little more than tube grubs and moldy water for sustainance.  THATS evil.  Bjorn would have probably just shrugged and let her be, Earl would have probably finished the job and punted her head over the walls to send a message to the rest, Kor would have probably eaten her, but more out of hunger and practicality than out of spite, and Farros would have probably healed her back, but only to ransom her to the highest bidder.  Dark elves are evil, pity them not.  They seriously are the kinds of people that will slaughter a surfacer's baby in the crib just because their bored, and murder their own parents in order to advance in political stature.  If they weren't then their alignments wouldnt be so restricted when making them!

Ask A Gamemaster / Palladin and Warhorse

I'm thinking of submitting a new char and I was wondering...

If I were to make a halfling palladin... would he be able to have a War Pony... or would he have to settle for a standard pony?

Or will he have to ask a gnome to build him an integrated ladder into his saddle to get on his Warhorse?

Roleplaying / IC effecting OOC... and Vice Versa
« on: September 18, 2008, 03:34:08 am »
Some people support football ( or Soccer if I have to use it) or baseball.
Some collect stamps or stick little wodden ships in big glass bottles.
Others play Online Games.
With either of the above, you are bound to get some kind of emotional attachment to your chosen preference. I personally recall seeing my brother sob like a little girl when England failed to qualify for the European cup.
It's really not that much different here.

Some of us invest a lot of time in the character's we've created here, and as it is a Roleplay world, there's no telling what could happen to your creation when you log in. Some of it could be good, some of it could be bad.
Some of it will make us laugh... and yet some of it may... just may, make us curse.

Events ingame may occur against your character, or situations may arise you really did not want to but have no control over. Tensions may rise, and you may find yourself angry, agitated or annoyed.
That is fine. And it's to be expected considering what we put into some of our characters, or how things can occur ingame.

Some of the things Im hinting at are things like:

Deity relations - " I will not travel with this person. Leave now... or we will "make" you leave!"  ... at which point someone finds themselves kicked from a group.
Sure... it may have been RP'd fairly enough and had RP reasons to be done, but that doesn't stop the player who now finds himself alone from being mildly miffed about the whole situation.

PvP - This can vary. But often enough I've seen is when two characters dont mesh well and it comes to blows. RP'd is fine... but it usually results in said people no longer travelling with each other, refusing or being unable to join groups because their opponent is traveling in said group.
Again, fine reasons and good RP. But it still may result in one person being left out of a circle or group they were accustomed to traveling in, or once again, find themselves all alone.

Broken Relations - A change in the routine. Your IG partner may dump you... or people you used to travel and RP with frequently suddenly no longer seem to be around, or are busy doing other things. One thing with the above to remember is.... simply because you may be dating/married to a certain person Ingame, or have the most fun RPing with a certain person, does not mean you need to go to and be with that same person everytime they log in.

There are likely more I cant think of, but the above tend to leave Player's with negative feelings. That "can" be understandable and unavoidable, since RP is Roleplaying out the Good and Bad times of your Character's life.
But the important thing is to ensure that that same negativity doesn't affect you and flow back into the game.
If your angry because a certain RP situation caused X or Y to happen, caused that evil Corath to kill your character in less than two rounds, or because your InGame love ran off with the Tailor from Hempstead, and you know it's affected you, it's perhaps time to log-off, roll back your chair and remember this is a game.

We're all here to enjoy a game. If this game no longer becomes fun and annoys us... it's time to sit back and take a break, get some perspective.
And those spending their few spare hours coming here to enjoy this game, shouldn't need to deal with any form of negativity we push out because an InGame situation didn't go the way we wanted it to.

Hmm.... I've rambled quite a lot.
Basically, all I'm saying in my long-winded way is, dont let IC things effect your OOC mood... and thus let your OOC mood effect your IC mood... and so on and so forth.

General Discussion / A Happy farewell
« on: September 15, 2008, 01:35:54 pm »
I am stepping down from the GM team. It has been so much fun being a GM for all of you. Thank you all for the energy that you have brought to my quests. I am doing this now because I feel I dont have the time to commit to quests that it takes and needs to be a good GM. I will still be playing though and maybe more so ;).

Being a GM is not an easy task on Layo. Not only is there so much you need to know but the player base is very sophisticated and that means you had best be on your toes at all times as a GM. By the end of some of my quests I would just log and pass out from the amount of multi tasking it took. Please keep in mind that most of the time there is only one GM there and he or she is trying to track all text (many times in multi locations), use a plethora of tools to call forth this beast or that NPC, play the NPCs, turn area spawns on and off, balance and re balance encounters, and set the mood and stage. All of this is after a couple of hours of set up. Be nice to them they work really hard.

Thank you all,
Jrizz - Happy

General Discussion / Getting Mugged
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:06:52 pm »
There are two separate occasions of people being mugged happened outside of my building. Both times the tenants told me two people were carrying bricks, of which there is a pile nearby due to recent construction.

What would you do if two people confronted you with bricks and told you to give up what you had on you?

My personal decision is to do what I can to fight them. I carry a knife with me to and from work, just because I live in a shady neighborhood. So the kabar knife I'm carrying is always with me on my trip upstairs.

It's my personal belief that the scum feeding on the working man/woman don't deserve what they think they can muscle out of me. My girlfriend who just ran to bed in rage thinks otherwise. Unless there was a gun to my head I would put up the fight of my life.

I want to know what you people think. I know my personal beliefs aren't intelligent, nor are they what the average person would do, but I won't alter my beliefs because someone disagrees with me.

If you were outnumbered, what would you do? They've all ready hospitalized one person. I have martial arts experience, am very physically fit because of my line of work, and carry a big knife with me, so factor that into my choice. I want to know what you would personally do.

Layonara Server / Can't Connect Today/Last Night (or laggy)
« on: August 30, 2008, 10:45:59 am »
There are a few people reporting that they could not connect to the server last night and a few are still reporting that for today. I have also seen reports of the server being laggy.

 A few things.

 1) The company hosting the servers had problems yesterday with their core router. They sent me an email at 5:59pm stating they would be doing emergency repairs on their core router at 6pm. Sadly I did not check my emails until early this morning so I did not know this was happening and could not give you any updates. Sorry about that.
 2) It seems that their emergency maintenance took quite a long time (at least 30 minutes) but the servers are up now.
 3) I have restarted the world servers so the lag should be cleared. I don't know why they would be laggy due to the down time that the company caused but perhaps they did, I rebooted them just to be safe. This should cure the overly laggy issue (see #4 below though).
 4) I don't know what is going on with the some of you not being able to connect to the servers via gamespy or via direct connect. I am able to direct connect just fine (just did a few minutes ago). Currently there are 17 players online (after the server reboot). I am thinking that perhaps the company did something that is causing DNS to update across the internet (though our server IPs remain the same--so perhaps something on their router). If this is the case it will take a while for the information to propagate to the world (no more than 72 hours and probably less than 24 hours--of which it has been at least 12 now)....if this is the problem. I am not sure how else to help here other than to suggest waiting.

 Sorry for the inconvience.

Server Rules / Muling Update/Clarification
« on: August 04, 2008, 07:49:22 pm »
While loaning "credit" to a character is not against the server rules it can easily be pushed over the line and can quickly be classified as muling. I am asking that you please be VERY CAREFUL about the way you loan items or True/Gold. Lets not push the boundries.

 A few examples:
A level 12 character who has been active for several months (or longer) borrows a little bit (but fully intends to pay it back) in order to buy a diamond amulet. This would be acceptable as it is not muling and indeed can pass for RP.

However, a level 5 character gaining a full set of good gear or a large amount of True/Gold through credit or association (such as a guild) is not acceptable in any way. A level 5 character is "new" to adventuring and thus will take a long time to find/make friends (via RP), I think everybody would agree with that statement in an In-Character and RP way. Most certainly "guilds" would not loan a lot of True/Gold to the character because he/she is not proven and/or is not well known.

One thing that is illegal (and this is known) is that one should not enter houses that another of their character(s) (or friends/guildmates) has storage just to equip items and/or take items/true from a chest. This is most certainly muling and it is a blatant attempt of muling. By this I mean: Say you are a level 5 character and you have another character that is level 15 and that character has a house and/or is a member of a guild, but this new level 5 character does not. The level 5 character should not gain the "benefits" of your other character, they are different characters and they need to be RP'd that way. To push this line is muling, and there can be no other explaination, so please do not do this. This rule is explained and is known already but it seems I need to spend some more time to explain it again.

 Final Note:

Since "loaning" is a two way street (it takes two or more players) both players need to be aware of the situation and the character and loan in question. Both players need to be aware that this can (and does) quickly become muling. Both sides will be held accountable. So please keep that in mind.

It is okay to "loan" but use some common sense and keep it reasonable. And don't push the lines please, I don't want to have to make a rule that loans are not allowed (that would suck).

If it does not feel right then it most likely is not right. And I am quite sure that nearly everybody will agree that any of the examples above would not feel right.

 Thank you.

General Discussion / Muhkuman's Hearing - Postponed
« on: August 01, 2008, 05:27:12 pm »
Due to concerns raised by a player and the need to look into a few things , coupled with events and people involved being in widely varing timezones, I have decided that in all fairness to all parties that it would be best to clear up this concern before going ahead with the hearing.

I need the parties involved - those present at the initial event - to PM me please.  Not those who heard such and such second hand, but those actually there on July 23.  If you have a log to show me ... all the better .  We can decide the best time to go forward from a discussion of these folks.
