Fixed Bugs / Storm of Vengeance« on: March 04, 2015, 08:05:58 pm »
Hi, I apologize ahead of time if I am not using the correct terminology. I noticed that after the update 3.40.1, where the AoE was fixed, did that reduce the frequency where the enemy has to make a save so that the storm of vengeance will strike them? I am asking this because I notice that before the update, 2 storms would easily kill 2 Great Forest giants. Now, you'll be lucky if 2 storms would "badly wounded" the two giants. My character is a level 28 cleric, the DC on her storm is 29. I have tested several times where I would go invisible and cast the storm on the two giants right outside of Hilm Castle. I would fight/hit them as well but it seems like the storm is not striking the giants as often. I guess what I am trying to say is, before it seems like the giant would attempt to make a save every round. Now, it seems like the giant would only attempt to make the save every 3 or 4 rounds (that might seem like an exaggeration but the idea is there). Did the frequency for the storm of vengeance to strike the enemies reduce?

Layonara Server / Update on Number of Characters Per Person« on: March 05, 2015, 07:56:38 pm »
Greetings Everyone!
I'm writing to share with you all that the number of character spots will be extended to eight ( from it's previous limit of six (6). This topic has come up a number of times but the large concerns were always to the matters of character development and strain on the CA team. With regards to the latter, there clearly hasn't been as much so we are going to give this a try.It is very important to note that we wish character development and roleplay to be at the forefront of play here. Empty characters will net little regardless of their accumulated levels. However, the last few extensions of trust have worked fairly well and we are looking forward to seeing what new ideas the community will come up with. Some important notes: 1) if we decide this isn't working out well we will restore the previous limit. If we do that however, we will not force deletions. You will only have to clear spots if you wish to start a new character at a later date.2) If the CA team gets pretty slammed with apps, please remember that we are running at a reduced capacity with a number of shared duties besides the duties of our RL. If people start bumping posts because their apps are in queue, we will move them to the bottom of the stack (which is what happens as we work from the bottom up as much as possible).3) Please respect the rules of the exotic/monstrous races. Submit only during the open time period(s).Thank you in advance for your patience and consideration. We hope everyone has a good time with this! ~row (and the CA team) The following users thanked this post: RollinsCat

Character Submissions / Thhakuk-Submission for Unholy Champion of Pyrtechon« on: May 30, 2015, 09:04:29 am »
I would like to submit Thhakuk for a CDQ to become an Unholy Champion of Pyrtechon. Original Character SubmissionCharacter Development PageSince escaping the decimation of the srocerer's army, Thhakuk has been a loner trying to do the Raging One's work. Because of this he has learned the importance of deception and subterfuge to survival. More than this, he has learned that subterfuge and deception can enhance and accentuate the completeness of destruction. He hopes to ensnare people such that he can gain their confidence, and trust so that he may destroy that at the end as well, leaving his sacrifices a broken husk of a person whose ashes will be consumed at the very end. This is the greatest gift he can give to the people of Layonara: a complete and utter voyage to the non-being of oblivion. He has approached this fearlessly as he knows now that the worst that can happen to him is pass in to the maw of Pyrtechon. As his resources and influence grow, he plans to ensnare entire villages in bizarre and inspired symphonies of chaos and destruction. To this end, he is studying how to make traps, and plans to design elaborate systems of traps so that once he has alerted a village to his presence, likely through acts of violence and vandalism, the attempts of the villagers will result only become the instrument of their downfall. Finally, he hopes to resurrect the Sorcerer's army in his own image so that he can stand against the nations of Mistone and beyond. His traps will become ingenius instruments of warfare that none have ever seen before.Champion Statements:1. I have read and understood the information on Pyrtrchon and how to play a champion of his faith. 2. Thhakuk does not believe that one comes to the afterlife through Pyrtechon instead through Pyrtechon one is given a far greater gift: liberation from existence in any sense. Through the maw of the Destroyer is nothing; there is no pain, no fear, no anguish, no happiness, no love, no thought, no substance. It is the highest form of freedom that he can imagine possessing. So Thhakuk sees himself as one who liberated people and brings them a precious gift. With every acre he turns to ash, he elevated the world to a higher spiritual plane. The transition is painful and terrifying but ultimately purifying. 3. Thhakuk wields a great sword that has been used to send many beings to the maw of the creator but he uses other tools to do his work as well. Traps, alchemical preparations, poison, magic scrolls and wands are all in his arsenal. Thhakuk realizes that in order to bring about maximal destruction that creativity and adaptability are needed. That being said, he prefers the visceral experience of doing Pyrtechon's work with weapons. He has not yet adorned himself with basalt because he has not been indoctrinated in to the faith in that way.

Ask A Gamemaster / Daniel Benjamin Poetr- Use of points« on: January 27, 2015, 11:31:08 am »
So I seem to recall under the point system the chance to use them for shall we say, odd requests. I'm curious as to what it would cost point wise to get a small gold dragon statuette (shrine to Rofirein) put into the courthouse in Hlint?

Layonara Server / Sending Bird Messages from the Web Site Is Back!« on: January 08, 2015, 03:57:54 pm »
For those of you who have associated characters through the web interface, you can now send bird messages to players in game. The system is a bit simplistic to start but it serves its purpose.Simply click on the On Neverwinter Nights menu at the top and select Send Bird Message. You'll then be presented with a dropdown list of all your associated characters and also autocomplete text boxes for each character you wish to send your message to. Each message costs 25 True per recipient. There's nothing quite like receiving a bird message so I encourage you to use the system to send messages to friends in game! If you need any help with anything associated with the system or linking your web account with your NWN Characters feel free to ask.

Ancients Legacy / Report from the Wolfswood Ranger Corps« on: January 03, 2015, 12:42:53 am »*Rangers from the Wolfswood posts informational notices near other informational bulletins in various towns and gathering spots. Also, to anyone that inquire about events occurring in the forest, this same information is passed on verbally as every ranger has been briefed and watching for it.*Reports from the Field Rangers:1) Rangers have found several strange "corpses" within the forest. The “corpses” are described as “…all the clothing from the individual seems to be intact and arranged on the forest floor as if a person had simply fallen there.” Closer examination has even revealed that there is not even a single bone remaining. These “corpses”, especially the most recent ones, radiate a foul odor.2) One report details about a Ranger who followed a person, believed to be human male, who was passing through the forest “oddly”. The individual was apparently moving heedlessly of any trails, paths or roads, but instead, did his best to continue in a specific direction and at a near constant pace.Report continues that even would-be predators seemed to show no interest in stalking the lone individual despite having sniffed his trail. A couple days after first observing this strange traveler and tailing him at a discrete distance, the Ranger reported that the individual suddenly collapsed and didn't move further. The Ranger lost sight of the traveler and set out to find him again. Mirroring other reports, what the Ranger found was a somewhat neat collection of wet clothing, arranged as a fallen man, and a horrible smell unlike the scent of any scene of death yet witnessed. The rangers of the Wolfswood Ranger Corps are being briefed daily on recent events, remain on vigilent watches, and fully support the efforts to solve this mystery. Ancients Legacy / Posted at the Stormcrest Shack« on: January 14, 2015, 03:40:15 pm »
For a time, a mess of different parchments and map scraps were seen inside the Shack where notices or requests used to be hung. The handwriting was so messy as to be indecipherable, with sentences at times seeming to be in pieces on different pages, and terms that could be nonsense or some sort of slang or technical jargon used profusely throughout. Nicknames that might be descriptive to someone offer little hint of what person or places they reference, and at times the writing is not even oriented to the page but rather upside down or in an imaginary margin. After a few days, they are replaced with a smaller number of neater pages, carefully printed in a small block script. CONSTELLATIONS SHIFT

Rumour Has It / The murderous Grum Gang has escaped!« on: January 01, 2015, 04:48:25 pm »
After terrorizing the countryside for years, murdering dozens of people, the Grum Gang was finally captured five years ago by the Sagewald military. Imprisoned in the deepest cells of Osl Fort, it is unknown why they were never executed. Sources confirm that they broke out just a few days ago after an explosion of unknown origin damaged the interior of the fort. Authorities in Marinor's Hold have put a call out to local adventurers and bounty hunters to meet in Marinor's Hold to receive information on the escaped prisoners before ultimately tracking them down and bringing them to justice.

Layonara Server / Version 3.40 is online!« on: December 26, 2014, 01:20:17 pm »Version 3.40 is online! This isn't a very significant update in terms of fixes or additions for players but those will be coming. The biggest change is merging Central and West together and cleaning up the haks. We hope this will make joining up and playing together easier plus it alleviates issues with the cross server portals, horses and other inconsistencies across the servers. It also makes deployment, administration and coding a bit simpler. Should the need arrive to separate them due to performance or other issues then we'll go back to that way but all the other updates mentioned in this post will still exist. If you haven't downloaded any haks I mentioned earlier you can get them from here in one large rar (the Downloads section will be updated shortly to get each individual hak should that be easier for you): If you have recently downloaded the big hak I mentioned in the other thread to get a jump on things, you will now only need to get the two below: http://e5bf79fd7133583b11df-dabb80c66fac67c5c4cbee545d8dd728.r44.cf1.rackcdn.com/haks/layo_resr1.rar (6.83MB) Fixes:

Layonara Server / Upcoming update. Complete HAK reorganization. Merging both modules together.« on: December 20, 2014, 05:12:15 pm »
Hello everyone,I am preparing a big update to clean a bunch of cruft up, make things speedier and merging both modules into one. There are a lot of advantages to merging the two modules into one from both the development side and for your enjoyment. Previous limitations to such a large module have new work arounds plus the limited community size and new hardware it is hopefully not a concern for overlagging the server. At the same time of doing this I've decided to reorganize the hak packs. There was over 11,000 (10%) resources in the haks that were duplicated either because the higher up one was a fix/update or just plain duplication error. Reorganizing them eliminates this duplication. This is going to mean everyone is going to have to download an entire new set of hak packs. I apologize for this but it's a rare occasion and hopefully you can handle a 950MB or so download these days. I know this is a bit of a frustration but I've also made a couple of fixes to things at the same time. The minimaps now work in the forest areas (Dapplegreen, Great Spikes - Ice areas, Blackford Outskirts etc) and I also fixed the minimaps in The Deep. The forest tileset has been updated to the final release as well. I've also added a couple other things from the vault. If you want to get a head start on downloading the new hak packs you can do so and place the haks in your hak/ folder while waiting for the updated release. They can be downloaded here: http://e5bf79fd7133583b11df-dabb80c66fac67c5c4cbee545d8dd728.r44.cf1.rackcdn.com/haks/layo_allhaks.rarIt is possible that I may end up having to update 1 or 2 of these haks before the release of the module but it won't be as big a download. It may be discovered that the server just can't handle the modules being one and we realize the stress is too high with 1200 areas in one module and we'll have to revert to the old way and run two servers but the new hak structure will still be in place either way.I've no timetable on when we'll be moving over to this. First I need to get some guinea pigs to download the haks and help me test some things but it will probably be fairly soon. All the best over the holidays, orth

Rumour Has It / Want to be a Stormcrest Guide?« on: December 15, 2014, 04:00:32 pm »
Someone's come back to the Shack, and found it awfully dusty! She's been too long wandering Elsewhere to know what's what in the world, and who is there to be guiding her? And if she's being perfectly honest, she was never a very good guide, just the guide we got... That's not even mentioning the time she fed everyone the wrong berries and left everyone too faint from the squats to carry on to the destination!!
Can you tell north from west?* You can be a better guide than Acacea! Do you remember where you left the horses? You, too! Can be a better guide than Acacea! Can you make basic campfire food without feeding everyone coals? Again! You have the advantage! Can you... remember local dangers and prepare your group against them? remember enough about a place to pass a little knowledge on as you pass by? Be Prepared For Things? Know Stuff About Places?

Development Journals and Discussion / Private Development Threads« on: December 14, 2014, 02:07:34 pm »
Well this took a long time coming and I apologize but I've finally found a simple system for allowing private development threads. The forum software allows for you to flag your threads as "Published" or "Unpublished". Basically by editing existing threads or when creating new threads you can in essence make a thread private by flagging it as Unpublished. Only certain users have permission to view Unpublished threads along with the author. I'll add this permission for Character Approvers, Gamemasters and Site Admins once I know it's all working. All existing private development threads have been moved to this forum and marked as Unpublished. Private threads will have the shield icon next to them which means others without permission can see the existence of the thread but can't see any of its contents. There is a small exception where, if they hover over the thread title in the forum listing they will see the beginning of the thread so you may want to put things that are unprivate in the first paragraph of the first post or so.Users are free to turn the status from Unpublish to Published and back whenever they like. Just edit your thread and under the Publishing Options vertical tab you can check or uncheck the box for Published. You can also quickly make your thread public by clicking the Published tab at the top.Let me know if you have any questions. -orth

Layonara Server / The NWN Servers are going to be moved« on: December 04, 2014, 06:55:48 pm »
Hello everyone,I hope you and your loved ones are all well.I've recently been able to secure a great deal for the NWN Server on a much faster machine on a Black Friday special so we're going to be moving it over there some time in the near future.I'd like to get the server up and tested this month so we can confirm that everything is okay to go and I can cancel our previous account before the end of the month. I haven't yet set an exact date and time but I'm thinking maybe late Friday or Saturday night this week.Players shouldn't notice any difference, you will still connect to xora.layonara.com (5121 or 5122). The IP address will change if you use that but I'll inform you of the new one when the time comes. This may also mean we can revert to automatic cross-server portals without crashes which might be nice but we'll have to test that. The new server will only cost $40 a month in donations so we can hopefully extend NWN Layonara at a fairly inexpensive price for as long as folks still enjoy coming here. For those curious and in the tech know:Existing server is a 4GB RAM, Dual 2.53GHz CPU, 250GB SATA HD running Windows 2k3 Server dedicated system.New server is a 10GB RAM, 10 2.3GHz CPU, 100GB Turbo SSD HD running Windows 2k8 Server cloud server. My initial tests have the servers starting up in half the time the old ones did. I'm not sure how much this will help lag and larger groups but we'll hopefully be able to test that. All the best,-orth
