roleplaying through a familiar
« on: October 04, 2006, 10:22:05 am »
i'm planning on submitting a wizard who's familiar talks (ice memphit). it's an essential part of the character and their biography.
but also the familiar is the charactrs teacher, and forbids the character to talk unless it tells them to. how would i RP this?

Interesting =). That wouldn't be that hard, I'd think, considering you can possess and unpossess your familiar and while your familiar is possessed you are his voice.

Actually, using the voice commands there's no need to switch back and forth.
  I think the syntax is:
  /o f
  for speaking through a familiar

Anyone who suffered through RP with Oddpetal will let you know that it does infact make for an intresting time

"/o f "   I remmeber seeing a command similar to that used to speak through summons, though I'm not sure exactly what it was. Something like /o; Does anyone know what it is?

*loud curse words* this whole time I've been possessing my Imp to have him get chatty - and lost all the ear translations my character would have picked up on . . . talk about a paradigm shift of efficiency!

Hows this for an odd question then - If I have my familiar or summon possessed, how can I pass voice commands back to the primary character other than releasing posession?

It's great to RP through a familiar - something I did during my brief stint on Layonara. As a result, the familiar ended having a more consistent personality than my main character. Not balanced there - heh. I didn't know about the voice shortcut, so my tactic was to just keep possessing and unpossessing my familiar with a click of the mouse. Tedious, but most entertaining RP ever. :)

      Have fun!

UPDATE: in my experience, o/ f does work, i posses quite a bit too. but while i'm possesing the familiar i can't make my PC talk, i've tried using /o f, but it doesn't work. it's still fun though, my PC barely talks anyway.

(i think that my familiar has allready made a powerful enemy, i'd better watch out :p )
