Lor
«

An outspoken member of the Diet at Lor, Angela Swann, spoke out in favour of a town militia capable of operating outwith the town precincts independent of Prantz control. The idea did not sit well with the council and its advisors from Prantz. Nonetheless a small group of mercenaries were raised and fought to drive off some pirate raids. This led to further discussion on the format of any future defensive forces. Travellers to the Lor region are warned against increased pirate activity.

A copper haired dwarven lass circulates around Lor and the outlying areas. She seeks out the company of kin wherever she travels. She lends a sympathetic ear to those who make any sort of intimation of having suffered at the hands of the forces of Rael.

An athletic looking woman in heavy plate and bearing a distinct military composure travels with the dwarven lass often making comment about certain areas, defensive locations and militarily important sites.

Argali continues her efforts to build relations with the dwarven community in and around Lor, and perhaps as far afield as Golden. In particular, she takes the opportunity to tell the tale of the Galeright Twins whenever there is gathering about the hearth.

News of the victory of some angelic guard force of Lor over the giants outside the village of Unluki, the sacrifice of the merchant army and the names of their fallen, and the participation of the forces of Rael within the village is spread from the Traveller's Choice Tavern in Lor to outlying areas of southern Dregar.

As Argali makes her way south to Lor, she stops in at the various dwarven enclaves dotted along her route. She listens to what they have to say about all sorts of matters and once again expresses sympathy at any grievances that may be raised about issues concerning Prantz. As the evenings settle in and the kinfolk collect around fire and hearth, she tells the tale of the Final Sacrifice of Varka Cleaveson, Hero of Bloody Gate.

The new beacon warning system equiped with one or two magical bells and whistles courtesy of the Tower Academy was called inot play recently. It turned out to be no invasion at all but two Lor Diet members kidnapped by brigands.
A party of volunteers and a strong detachment of Rael regulars worked well together due to the presence there of a number of well known law abiding citizens held in general good esteem by the forces of Rael.
They tracked the brigands to their remote outpost and laid seige. The matter was resolved by some covert action all under the able command of Captain Hesipate. Both released politicians were rushed to Lor where they made a short public proclomation as to their well being....and this bard's ears are still smarting.
One unfortunate incident occurred however when one of the would be rescuers was apprehended under Article 31 and later jailed at Lor for attempting to bribe a Rael official. His name was presented as Alias Weeman, an elf of little or no repute.

Argali visits the dwarven recruits manning the newly installed beacon
towers
. She praises their commitment to public duty, and their initiative for taking the opportunity to take a stand. Though not naming the threat, she always seems to look northward whenever this is alluded to.
She makes it clear that this will not be an cushy job, where they can
doss
off secure at the top of some stone tower. Nor will they be left to idle away their time, neglected until some moment of crisis. She explains that they are expected to show the vigilance of any soldier, and to that end, she is willing to train them in arms and the discipline required to hold a small fortress until help can reach them.

The beacon tower garrisons are sent word of the trouble at
Trembling Creek
. They are advised to remain vigilant, but not to instigate any conflict, as this may be part of a ploy "from the north". However, it would be another matter should the orcs attack the beacon towers in force.

An announcement was made at Lor hot on the heels of the recently successful Trembling Creek campaign where the Rael army worked in close cooperation with popular Lor Militia units against an Orc warband.
The first Army of Lor will shortly raise a Standard and open for full time recruitment. The Army will serve in the defence of Lor under local commanders and fall under the overall command of Rael Southern Army which will now move north to be based at Mask.
Meanwhile the newly created Lor Navy now boasting three ships will share facilities with the Rael south fleet at Lor. The Lor Navy will be responsible for local defence at sea and for coastal patrols.
In other news a short term contract for military transport in the Lor area was suddenly cancelled amid some concerns about missing supplies and poor service. The company concerned Eeman Ltd were unanavailable for comment and their offices appeared empty.
The contract has been transferred to other reputable Lor traders with solid political connections.

Argali visits the various dwarven communities about the southern end of Dregar. She brings news to them of those serving in the beacon towers, passing along any hand written messages previously given to her. Come evening time, she tells the tale of Kothac Lightbringer and the battle of Krandor Crypts, though probably not doing it the same justice as a certain well traveled and jangling halfling.

As part of her drilling regime, Argali instigates a program of hikes between adjacent beacon towers. This way, the beacon tower garrisons are familiar with the various routes to the next towers should they have to raise the alarm on foot.

Inspired warriors tred along new foot trails in a regular run replacing vigilant guards before they succumb to ale or boredom or both. In this manner all those employed in the capacity of Beacon oversight sleep easier satisfied that the matter is responsibly and comfortably in hand for today and the days to come.

A company of light troops out of Lor found strange tracks near the border and suspecting these might be more of these strange creatures they asked for and were granted permission to pursue into Rael. They did not find anything significant and returned to Lor.
In light of this new found cross border cooperation the Rael Navy at Lor held a small cheese and ale afternoon party aboard their latest ship and invited the entire company of foot. Things apparently went swimmingly.

As part of their drilling regime, Argali instigates a monthly archery competition, where the recruits compete individually and by tower for awards and extra privileges, and even prestige amongst their fellow recruits.

In light of the disturbing
news
Angela makes sure that the guards of Lor are up to their task by a series of surprise inspections.
Finding their form to be below her expectations, they're sent to train with the new recruits.

Amid rumours that many of the better quality guards have moved on to the now more prestigious and expanded Lor army - crime in the dock area and the city in general is on the increase. Travellers are warned to watch for pick pockets especially when under the influence of the many and delightful locally available ales.
