Another visit to Haungjin
« on: May 07, 2011, 07:33:23 pm »
Daniel embraced Andrew's mother in a bear hug, sweeping the woman from her feet as her short legs dangled a good foot off the floor. "Tis good to see you again, Mrs Reid." He said solemnly settling the small woman back on the floor and turning to Andrew's father.  With a grin Daniel made to hug him as well, but the normally calm man gave such a look of terror at the prospect, that instead he calmly offered his hand, tilting his head. "Sir.  I thank you for your hospitality once again.  May I introduce a friend, and brave heart,  Beacon Jillian of Toran?" Daniel turned and gestured to Jillian gracefully.
"Give a man a mask and he will show you his true face."

*chuckles at Daniel's antics and her eyes light with the fun.  Upon her introduction, she put her hand out for introduction.* A pleasure.

"It very good for you come visit again Dan-e-al!  Please come in."  A gracious smile to Jillian and a polite bow to her from both.  Margret, barely five feet tall, a native Tilmarian with dark brown eyes and hair short and iron-grey; William, only inches shorter than Andrew, whose thinning hair was still mostly black, belying his seventy-odd years.

"Tashe.  So kind to be let us know."  Margret's voice was both light and as pointed as the tip of Andrew's rapier on the last sentence and even William sucked in a little breath.  Andrew sighed and bowed to his waist, arms at his side, holding for a few heartbeats.

"Moushiwake arimasen, Mother."

Her chin lifted as she met his eyes.  "Watashi wa anata wo yurushi masu."

William relaxed, as did Andrew.  He stepped left so the small elven woman, a few inches more petite than Margret herself, couldn't use him as a blind.

"Mother, Father, you know Daniel and this is Jillian as Daniel said - and this is Elohanna, my Minu."  A warm tenor made warmer by the sudden delighted recognition in Margret's eyes, and his parents smiled as if they'd been brought a present.

The smile of Elohanna's face was happy yet clearly nervous as she stepped up beside Andrew. Her light brown curly hair falling lightly around her shoulders and her pale blue eyes meeting their own, and her nervousness got the better of her as she took her steps even further and wrapped her arms around Margaret in a split second.

"Please forgive me for not coming sooner. Mr and Mrs Reid. I never meant to make you wait so long for a visit."

She said softly and unsure in those moments if she should call them by formal address or as her heart wished to as mom and dad as she felt she were already a part of their family. She held to Margaret with tears clinging at the corners of her cheek and embraced the woman who was her beloveds Tashe's mother in an instant.

"Two hug one day!  You let me stay feet though."  Margret threw a quick grin at Daniel and patted Elly's back as a mother soothes a child.  The incongruity of it made Andrew smile.  "Come sit, where Ty?"

"Ty's well but he didn't come this time, Mother - that will be another trip.  Where's Bobby?"

"Shuichi go buying, maybe back five days?"  Margret glanced back up at her husband who nodded.  "Opal, Vanessa here, in back."

Andrew herded them inside to the front shop room and a new addition, a muscular woman with a katana sheathed on her sleek hip, took notice.  Margret paused to introduce Andrew to the woman, giving Daniel, Elohanna and Jillian time to browse Reid Pottery's many creations.  "Andrew, kochira wa watashi no tomodachi desu. Kitazawa Noriko-san desu."  The woman only nodded, keeping an eye on the three in the store - her guardedly sharp eyes relaxing a hair when she took in Daniel's cloak and Jillian's Toranite symbol.

"Reid Andrew desu. Douzo yoroshiku."  His polite bow got another nod; she gave him a quick scan, nodded again, and went back to watching from the windows and door.  He smiled.  "Good."

"Mohabatu-san in barn.  Watch kilns."  He patted his mother's shoulder - two guards.  Double good.  The three Reids turned to watch their guests a moment before moving into the private part of the house.

Daniel studied the works curiously for a moment, pausing to gently trace the outline of some foreign symbol in bas relief on a piece or three.  This creative endevour of the Reid's never failed to impress him.  All were masters of the craft of pottery and the store's shelves showed it, yet he thought he could make out subtle differences in style between the pieces, recognizing immediately some of the older ones as pieces he'd seen before.  With a smile, he stepped back to gauge Jillian and Elohanna's reactions.

*smiles at Ms. Reid when she is being watched.  However, she genuinely shops.*  These are for sale?  *looks to Dan with a blush and a mutter* Yes, I am female and shopping, no comment.  *finds some items that would suit her mother and sisters and pays Ms. Reid for them and asks if they can be wrapped*

"Yes, yes!"  With a bright smile Margret hustled to the counter.  To the right of the counter a door was banged open and a young woman strode in, slender and leggy with straight black hair to her waist.  She looks perhaps sixteen but her actual age was hard to guess.

"Oba, I heard customers, can I help?  Hello!"  Perfect common.  A warm smile and small bow to those in the room, and then a double-take on Daniel -  "Hey!  I remember you!  Hi!"

"Opal! Reigi!"

The girl sighed and rolled her eyes.  "Hai, Oba.  Hello, welcome back!"  With a little blush at Daniel she began to expertly wrap Jillian's purchases in paper and then colorful cloth, tying on bright strips of ribbon and packing them in a slatted wooden box.  She paused on a flowerpot with a raised garden molded around the base and glazed in shining bright colors.  "This one I did!  Oh, hi Uncle Tashe!"

He'd grinned throughout her entire introduction and sudden filling of the room."Hello Opal.  Please meet my friends - this is Beacon Jillian of Toran, and my lady Elohanna.  Daniel I believe you remember."

"Oooo, you're Minu?  Wow, we hear a lot about you.  Nice to meet you!  No, really!  I mean, you would not BELIEVE how many women he used to bring around, if you really tamed him - "  For once Margret didn't interfere and it was Andrew's glare that stopped her, but she matched his look and grinned.  "If I shut up now, you have to buy me a new dress."

"Done."

Opal looked back to Elly, her voice triumphant and aimed at her uncle.  "Nevermind!  It's so nice to meet you.  VANESSA!  Be a love and get some snacks ready?"  For such a skinny girl, her voice carried clear out the barn and rattled a few pieces of the pottery.  She shifted her attention back to the guests; William sighed and bowed, slipping through the rightside door, and Margret held up a finger, waiting to get a word in.  "Beacon Jillian, would you like these shipped?"

She couldn't help but be amused at the attention clearly enjoying meeting his family.

"He tells me all about you too Opal. He tells such fantastic stories of you all that I am sorry I have not come sooner. I am glad to meet My Tashe's family in person because I know you are going to have some wonderful stories to share with me about him."

She offered reassuringly to Opal, "And perhaps you and I can go shopping while we are here so that I can hear all of them?"

Daniel simply pressed his lips together suppressing a grin at Jillian's comment, wisely not uttering a comment.  As Opal appeared a geniune smile of affection appeared on his features for the young lady. "Hello Opal, Tis good to see you again as well.  My you have grown, I can imagine a line of potential suitors coming in here to do some window shopping." He teases like an uncle with a wink at Andrew.

Andrew rubbed his face.  "I'm not going to win this one, dress or not."  A laugh.  "Minu and I can come back later but for now we're here for only a short visit - Jilly is intending to visit her family as well and was kind enough to invite us along."

"Aww.  You'd better bring Elohanna back, Oba hasn't had a chance to talk to her yet!"  Andrew fixed a look at his niece and she flashed a brilliant smile.  Margret shook her head and with Jillian's purchases packed, took Elohanna by the arm and led them all through a formal dining area to a small but sparsely furnished room with cushions and legless chairs around a long, low table of teak.  Warmth flooded from a pit below the table and there were a variety of cut fruits and rice balls being arranged by a girl younger than Opal yet nearing her own first bloom of womanhood; her shining black hair draped her shoulders and her resemblance to Andrew's sister, Aya, was striking for anyone who had met the wandering harpist.  The girl's voice was restrained and she bowed to each guest before stepping back so they could take a place by the food.

"Please sit, we are happy you are here."

Daniel trailed along behind the others, continuing to admire the different feel of the furnishings.  Like the architecture, the inside of the home was unlike any he had seen in Mistone.  Everything was spotless, yet held a simple beauty, like the low teak table.  He paused glancing down at his feet, glad he'd remembered to remove his footware at the door, but horrified to see that hole had appeared in his left stocking revealing a toe.  With a shrug, he sat heavily on some cushions by the low teak table tucking the offending foot under a leg since he knew his hosts would insist that all the guests were comfortable before sitting themselves.  He placed his hands in his lap and waited patiently for the others to do the same, "We are honored by your hospitality." He said, offering a warm smile to Andrew's youngest sister.

*after her packages are packed up, she replies to the question of whether they should be sent by saying * No, I'll take them with please when I leave.  I believe we are all headed there.

*after that she follows along with the group, a grin on her face much of the time that the boys are dealing with the niece.  Once inside, she follows Daniel's lead as to behavior although noticing the toe, she gentle steps on it and then grins at him to know she noticed.*

Elohanna smiled gently at Margaret holding to her arm just admiring her and embracing her beloveds Family. She was mostly quiet as the others talked, being somewhat reserved clearly not wishing to make a misstep and offend someone with intending it.

As they settled around the table, Margret poured tea and Opal winced suddenly and gives her grandmother a surprised look.  The older woman's face didn't give anything away but her hand came back to rest on top of the table.  "Oh, right - sorry.  My name is Opal but I guess you know that now.  Tash - Andrew is my uncle.  This is Vanessa, who's practically my sister but is Auntie Aya's daughter - that's Uncle Tashe's sister so my auntie too - so she's my - um - "

"Juushi."

"Cousin, right.  But really my sister."

Vanessa bowed, her hair brushing across a few slices of melon on her plate, but let Opal do the talking.

"Do I need to introduce you guys?"  Opal looked at her grandparents.

"Opal - oh, mind not."  Margret sighed and shook her head in a resignation that made Andrew smile.

"I remember that look."

"You should."

He grinned.  "Let's wait and regale Minu with those stories later, eh?"

"I will, you believe it."  Margret patted Elohanna's hand with a conspiratorial wink and turned to Jillian.  "You family live here?  Who, maybe we know?"

She smiled back at Margeret and then to Andrew shaking her head clearly amused at how welcome they were making her feel but stay quiet waiting for Jillian to answer.

Yes I grew up here.  My parents and sisters still live here.  In the size of this city, I doubt you would know them though.  Truth be told, most of my adolescene was more spent training than home with them, yet they are still very proud of me and love me.  They'll be thrilled when we walk thru the door.  Although, much as you did to Andrew, probably admonish me for not warning of guests. *grins*

Margret nodded and held up a finger.  "We send something special, maybe invite.  Good to know neighbors, even in big city."

Opal waited until Margret was done - barely - before jumping in and asking their guests where they'd been, what they'd seen, how the war was going, had they seen any dragons, and did they want more tea?  Vanessa was quiet, speaking mostly to Elohanna as the elven woman was also being quiet.  William held a side conversation with Andrew about the Silver Buckle, his management of it, and his employees - Margret spoke when she could (usually when Opal had to stop to drink or take a breath).  The matriarch of the Reid family seemed very pleased with her husband and son, heads together, discussing business.

Fruit and rice eaten, tea drunk, and even Opal's chatter thinning, Andrew glanced to Jillian and grinned.
"Milady, are you ready for your two-man escort home?"

*to opals' many questions*  I've seen much in my travels.  I once even went to the Pitts.  We can talk sometime if you wish, but I'm sure it sounds more interesting than it is.  As for dragons, the closest I've come is something called a Mud Wyrm?  It's not really a dragon.. but has some of the same descriptives.  All I really remeber of it was Daniel's screaming. *chuckles*

*andy* As to the escort home.  Whenever everyone is thru here.

*to mom* I will see to it that my mom stops by for a visit sometime.

Daniel favors Jillian with a slight smirk, "I never scream, hmph.  You must have me confused with someone else..Jilly." He turns very serious as Opal presses him for what war was like declining to talk about most of it other than to say, "If you see a man or woman eager for a battle, it is probably their first time ever going to one."
