Ask the Loremaster: Aeridin
« on: May 17, 2009, 05:21:08 am »
New version of Aeridin is up:
LORE: Aeridin

Major change: no more reference to the Great Cycle. More focused on life and purity of life. The term Great Cycle has been moved to Katia.

Post your questions here!

Interesting shift in alignment.  Are these changes going to be retconned as having always been, or has Aeridin grown a bit more grim and unyielding due to recent events?  (the duel with Corath's visage, the end of half-race mating, the creation of the half-dragon mutants)

Also, on the issue of natural shapes: (tons of questions there!)

How does his faith view druid shifting or advanced shifter forms? Polymorph? Transmutations?

Would he advocate the hunting of intelligent aberrations for whom their form is the one they are born with? (in other words, should his clergy kill a mongrelman for being born what it is, or respect its right to life, try to interact with it peacefully and just stick to things that have been warped from their original forms via things like undeath, lycanthropy and magic?)

How does his clergy view those born with physical deformity?  Would fixing something like a cleft lip or club foot be considered healing, or defying the natural form?

Oh yeah, and has Athus risen to the status of Sainthood yet? ;)

If Aeridin is Lawful Neutral, shouldn't Lawful Evil be a possible Cleric alignment?

Don't know what happend with the alignment, I did the summary, so my bad I think :) Should be NG, like it was.

CHanging of form is frowned upon. Some purists would want to stop/prevent it altogether, more pratical followers would say that a druid's ability is natural and therefore acceptable. So, there are different "camps" in faith, as it is a matter of interpretation, this is intentional.

Your mongrelman example is a good one, they would not hunt it down but respect its right to live.
They would focus more on "things that have been warped from their original forms via things like undeath, lycanthropy and magic".

Note: many would also see spells like Eagle's Spendor, Bull's strength and the like as not acceptable.

Regarding those born with physical deformities, most would try to restore these to normality. But again, there would be those that would object against this.

Basically though, the intent is to create more opportunity for opposing RP within the same dogma, based on interpretation. So one cleric of Aeridin could have different views on a matter from another. So this is all intentional.

Alignment is back to Neutral Good, with cleric alignments adjusted back to match.

I was wondering when reading the page. What happened to the sect of the Light Bringers?

They're still around, except not in the published works.
What we're putting on LORE at the moment is coming from the Pantheon book.

/// As a side note, the constellation links on the deity pages don't go anywhere just yet, as I need to revamp a few things and decided to save the constellation stuff for last. But really, the constellation information is all there already in other places. Just ask if you need help finding it. ///

LORE: Aeridin now has a drawing of Aeridin. The symbol has moved to LORE: Aeridin: Clergy Attire

Feedback on pictures is always appreciated, I'd like to hear what you  think.

I have a few questions :)

As one of the few Aeridinites actively playing on the server, how should I respond to people who play shapechangers that are druids?

That is up to how you role play your character.

However Ed touched it further down in the post.  He covered lycanthropes, druid/shifters and even transmutation spells.  As with many religions there are those that are more strict than others.  We always look forward to seeing where a player character falls in the spectrum, what brought them there and how they intereact with the world around them.

It's also good to always filter perceptions through deity/character alignment and the theme of the god before assuming that taking a stance, however firm, against something or someone is automatically equal to hate or violence. Even the most irritated of Aeridinites, because of take on the seeming potential purity of life and also its sanctity, even the most formless shifter seems unlikely to incite anything but attempts to educate and convert if that is their only fault. Of course, not all Aeridinites are clerics, so there are those that claim dogma across the whole board even or especially when they are not granted divine blessings...

There's probably not a manual titled "What To Do When Your Buddy Turns Into A Bear," so there is a lot of room for self-questioning and prayer, and hoping that the wisest path is taken in order to make that stupid shifter understand why he's ruining his own life. And a lot of room for error and accidental greatness.

Is this right?  Since i understand that there is no need of a soul involved in the creation of most undead .  Do the Aeridinites feel the same about a skelleton , which techically is just remains animated ( no soul involved ) than a lich or a vampire ( in this latter cases i fully understand the need of destroying it due the dogma of the life giver ) ?

I really like all the new artwork we've been seeing. I'm yet to see one that hasn't impressed me.

PS. I am also pretty honest, i'd tell you if I didn't like them.
