Using the Mysterious Contraption
«

I just purchased a new weapon with a 3rd level electrical enchantment. However, that enchantment comes with a normal (15 m) light that I would like to get rid of. I was thinking about putting it in the Mysterious Contraption.
Possible results I see in order of desirability:
- Remove the light but not changing the appearance, leaving the sparks.
- Remove the light and the appearance so it looks like a normal blade (but it still shocks).
- Remove the enchantment completely, including appearance.
Anybody know what will happen?

I have blades with a rogue that I used it on. All it will do is take the light off, but it will still have the fire, electrical or what ever appearance, but no ambient light. It won't strip the visual or the enchantment for sure.
Oh and somehow I figured out long ago how to make the visual go away too on level 3 and 4 enchantments but for the life of me I can't remember how I did it. But it still left the effect of the enchantment. I just lost that blade and I really wish I could remember as I don't like the flamey effects to be permanently on my weapons.
I think I did it by applying a level 4 after I had a level 2 with no visual, and when I did that the visual never appeared on the blade, but for the life of me I can't remember...

You have to apply an enchantment, then an enhancement and then an enchantment again.. or was it the other way around? .. it's something like that.

If you are referring to the thing you have to put black onyx in and some gold, it just removes the light. Nothing else happens.
Or at least, nothing else has happened to me when I've used it.

Correct. The contraption only removes the lighting effect from items, not the visual effect. It will work on any item placed in the machine, from robes to weapons.

The result of the feature can be a bug if you don't see anything after using the contraption. Happens if you had ts or UV on at the time you used the contraption.

My experience, having done this several times w/ both Caerwyn ('cause he's not overly fond of the attention light brings) and Annwyl ('cause some of the colors look simply hideous on her) for swords, rings, etc., is that the device removes the light effect only, leaving all other effects intact. The world's gone dark on each use that I've done independant of any TS or UV, though it's not a bug IMO and can be dealt with
