Here we go again...
« on: February 20, 2008, 01:57:17 pm »
Apparently I'm having trouble sticking around.

This time, my internet's fine, but I'm moving... Again. My computer, and thus my access to the internet, will be offline as of the 27th at the LATEST.

Turns out that Sara's even less cool about living in an area where gunshots and the coroner are fairly normal things to notice, than I am. Ditto, our roommate. So, since both of them refuse to live here any longer, I don't have much of a choice, myself.

Especially considering that Sara just spoke with the slumlords of the place, who agreed that if we paid $50, (that's 25 pounds, UKers,) and vacated the premises (with our blue walls painted back over, and the holes fixed) by the 1st of March, we'd be free and clear to break the lease.

Giving us nine days to have new places, be packed and gone, and have the place fixed up.

Now, while Sara has a place already, thanks to her grandparents (who didn't mind moving up the date of her move-in by four of five months), as does Robyn (again, moving up her move-in date), I don't. (Sara's grandparents refuse to let me live there.)

The roommates I'd planned for (old friends from Dawsonville) don't start school in the city until fall semester, and one of them still has to actually graduate highschool... So, they can't move just yet. Nor do they have the money to, just yet.

I work two jobs. One with whom I just started, and have just started shining in!, and another, the manager of which I hold a fair bit of loyalty to.

Sears, the first job I mentioned, I may be able to take a leave of absence from, to come back in six months or so - if all goes well.

Dominos, the second, I might be able to do something similar with, but... Replacing me won't be easy for them.

And with both, I need to give TWO weeks' notice, as a bare minimum...

While I have eight days before I need a new place.

Eight < Fourteen.

The solution is this:

I live with Sara for a week, as she'll still be working over here anyway and as such will be driving in this direction. We trade off the car with much trickiness and madness, to get to all three of our jobs. I hide from her grandparents.

Then, I move up to Dawsonville, resume my old job at Arby's (ugh), and save every penny I can before moving back to Atlanta.

When will I be without internet? Hm.

I estimate that I'll be without the 'net for a period of about a week and a half, starting in a week.

I'll keep you guys posted. *Tips his hat.*

Sounds like you have much bigger things to worry about than Layo.  I'm sure everyone will still be around once you find a new home and work.  RL priorities should always come first. Good luck.. hope all goes well.

sounds like me in may, when my roommate/mom (after 3 years of living hell to help her get her house) brakes her part of the lease (which is ending in july leaving me with 2.5 x more of what I have to pay now) to get her house. *Sighs* shortage of apartment here in Montreal, not helping.

Good luck Steven with trying to find where to stay.

I am having my difficulties to find a place to stay in Wellington, and know what kind of pressure you are under especially in all in 8 days.

I'm telling you dude, check out a warehouse position. They'll either pay you well, or pay you based on a piece count. It's a crummy job, sure, I just worked until about 10 minutes ago. However, they're everywhere, require only that you can understand the concept of point A to point B, and are a great work out.

I was in your position while going to school and I can say that it's not worth the stress, man. Good luck!

Warehouse work? Closest thing to that in D-ville would be WalMart.

Seriously. Go check out the wiki entry for Dawsonville. It's fairly comprehensive.

Walmart has a huge back-room area. With the volume of stuff going through there, it's pretty easy to get and keep a job. A friend of mine moves pallets for them and gets 10.50. Worth looking into.

I work in a warehouse in a ghetto at least as dangerous as where you live.  Great job, flexible hours, pays well, but god I wouldn't want to live here.  Just earlier this week two people got shot in the parking lot.  The stores on our block consist of an Urban Jewelry Store (big 20lb diamond studded gold dollar sign necklaces for "poor" people), a pawn shop, a head shop with a wide selection of drug paraphernalia, a porno shop, a seedy biker bar and a Papa Johns which gets robbed at gunpoint every few weeks.  Next door is a broken down motel with hourly rates and bars on the windows.  Roughly 1/2 of our employees have encountered a dead or unconcious homeless person at least once during their trips to the dumpster.

Nobody messes with our warehouse is because we sell nothing but huge jacuzzis, doors, building materials and chandeliers.  Not much resale value on a stolen chandelier!  Besides, criminals are lazy, and to rob our store you'd work up a sweat lugging all those huge boxes.  One thing's for certain though, the cops here in Orlando would rather beat up college skaters than even bother to investigate a single crime here.  Copper thieves stole our AC units twice in two days, back to back, and they refused to even take a look on the roof.  You do a 50/50 grind near the reflection pond on campus though, they come sprinting out of the bushes tazer in hand!

Our tax dollars at work.

I think the main reason I haven't been shot yet is I look too bloody crazy.  I quit shaving when I got this job and now have a huge red viking beard at 6'6".  Sure, that's not bullet proof, but whenever a bum asks me for a dollar my eyes go barmy and I start screaming "Where's MY drug money?!  Where's MY drug money!"  and chase them away.  Takes a real good intimidation check to out-surly a street bum! (and a good 6-pack on the job)

The bad side of course, is the chronic back pain and every time you crush a foot under a 1000 lb stack of tile.  And when summer comes to Florida in a big steamy 120 degree metal box.

I'll definitely be looking into WalMart again, but for now, Arby's is what's on the menu. They'll at least give me fulltime hours, and it's not like it's terribly difficult work.

I was actually very nearly shot, and my girlfriend was robbed, before we managed to get out of that place. Now she's in Marietta, and I'm back in Dawson. I've got internet, but until I fix my own machine, I'll be without NWN.

LORE's still on the table, though - When I get a little while, I'll be working on ghost links. And by a little while, I mean a few hours when I've nothing else to do.
