More gems and gemcrafting

This may sound weird, but maybe it is possible to add more gems to NWN. I just bought a book about all the minerals and gems, there is a description of "magic" that each gem is believed to have. With more gems we could tweak gemcrafting as most rings and amulets find hardly any use today. Maybe add jewlry that gives a bonus to skills, let's say lore, spellcraft, discipline, animal empthaty etc. These should prove more useful than the current ones.

I always thought I'd be cool to have Onyx in a ring. Great idea Ar7.

A very time consuming overhaul... make new rings and necklaces, re-work the gem smashing, cutting, and poloshing tables. Re-work the Lesser, Normal, and Greater jewlry making stations.
With all that said I too agree that some jewlry that adds things to stats instead of adding to saves would be a very nice thing.
Time...and man power... man power and time.... unfortunatly we are lacking severly in both areas.

How about a way to craft soulstones from enchanted emeralds for clerics only?
Makes it easier on the whole raising xp issue, and gives them an opportunity on quests to make money on the insurance business.

Totally not worth making soulstones from Emeralds, that's a one way ticket to crashing the market. Since Soulstones are only 2K a piece, and Emeralds worth far, far more. I'd think Sapphires or topaz would make good gems, cast with 2 restoration spells. But, then again, that would make them more available, which is what I think L is trying to avoid.

crafting soul-stones would be nifty. Make it an enchanting something or other .... require death-ward or raise or something like that.

The current price of soul stones is lower than the price of most gems that would be considered for the recepie. (eep how do you spell recepie? looks funny... Rece Pie... *wanders off leaving his parentheses unclosed*

*Looks around and whispers* R-E-C-I-P-E.
My obsessive compulsive nature wouldn't allow me to let that go unanswered?
Or something. . .

How about composite crystalline stones using the existing variations of gem dust.
Have yet to figure out what to do with greenstone, phenalope or feldspar(which is a gemstone group).
As for the others I can see various uses for them based on their chemical makeup, though the characters would not know of such things, once could come up with some interesting recipes, based on their historical uses.
Amethyst was used to prevent poisoning and why it was inset into various goblets or even dropped into ones drink, to prevent being poisoned.
Ruby was believed to speed healing and prevent being slain in battle, which may expalin why warriors wore it before going into battle.
Given, these are historical beliefs in our own world and not that of Layonara.
dust of amethyst added to metal armor, could be used to prevent poisoning by opponents upon the character.
dust of emerald added to a weapon could reduce the weight of the weapon.
dust od diamond added to armor could increase its strength, giving a bonus to AC, or added to a bladed weapon to increase its sharpness or generally any weapon to increase its durability, like making picks stronger, and sharper for the purpose of mining.
