Rumour Has It / Rumors after the storm
« on: March 12, 2010, 11:42:28 pm »
Off the coast of Krandor, more than a month after the night that fire  and lightning were seen far out at sea where no land existed, a shark is  spotted like no other. In Krelin's Inn, a fisherman claims that the  shark's fin stood as tall as a full grown man, and that it was the Shark  Lord himself, come to feast on the dead that were washed into the ocean  ... but considering how far down in his cups the man was at the time,  few give credence to the rumor.

---

A bard coming from Tavish, a tiny, devastated village set along the  southernmost parts of the Trelanian coast, brings a strange tale with  him. A sailor there claims that he was out at sea the last night of the  storm, and he saw the ocean catch fire in the distance and begin to  burn. The winds of fire wrecked his boat and the waves carried him to  the shore on a piece of the wreckage, where he languished for weeks,  barely surviving off his canteens and rations, sure that death was  coming for him. The sailor claims an angel rose out of the ocean and  stole the very pain from his wounds before guiding him home. The bard is  not sure what to make of the tale, and wonders if something happened to  the water supply in the town, since a woman there also claimed the  angel told her of her future.

---

Looting in the villages along Trelania's coast seems to be declining  with the heat as summer turns to fall. Not only do the coastal villages  surge with new hope, it seems something has given the looters and  fear-mongers a reason to look for easier hunting grounds. Some whisper  of a sea witch who walks barefoot in tattered rags with seaweed in her  hair. They say she bears a wicked looking weapon, a spiked ball on a  long chain, and shows no mercy to those she deems her enemies.

---

There are rumors that a strange healer passed through Karst in the early  weeks of fall. The healer stayed for three days, they say, in a little  hut by the edge of the sea, and refused to see any but those who were  believed to be beyond helping: the mad, the disturbed, those who had  succumbed to despair, and those who had lost their minds in grief. The  healer refused to let any watch, but terrible screams came from the  shack. Even so, when the healer had gone, those who had gone into the  shack had come out again with their minds healed and their wits intact  ... though not one could say what had happened.

---

In the temple in Leringard in mid-autumn, priestesses whisper at the  Temple of Gales that something or someone long lost has finally been  found and returned home. Some say it is an artifact of Lady Doom that  was found after millenia, while others believe that the Lady of Storms  has sent down a prophetess to whisper of Change to her faithful. Even at  the temple, there is much confusion and distrust. Only the Tempest  seems to have found the calm in the storm, and waits patiently for  things to reveal themselves. Most agree though: something is coming that  has stirred much of the temple into unease.

Rumour Has It / Word from the Seas...
« on: March 12, 2010, 11:29:16 pm »
Some weeks after the great display of lights in Almoran ocean and the ending of the five year long storms, word begins to trickle into coastal cities of more of what happened at high seas.

From the sea elves it is heard that some awful magic was unleashed. Lightning that turned to flames and boiled the waters. No, they are not confusing lightning with fire, they are saying that it was first lightning and then the very water went ablaze. In the area deep at sea where this happened it is being said that the waters have become dead, that any fish that wanders too close simply dies. It is obvious that the ocean dwellers are not happy about this and they are in search of answers of how this might have all happened.

As the days go by this seems to be confirmed by multiple other sources. From those few druids that wander into cities or are a little more outspoken than what might be the norm, the sea elven stories are confirmed. However, they add their own little bit to it. Yes, whatever magic was unleashed was most strange and dangerous. But what doesn't really click is that the way it swelled on the horizon, the way its patterns of magic were seen, it was meant to continue far far more, perhaps even to the coast. But that never happened! So something must have stopped it and whatever it was it was very powerful too...

Without a doubt there are many tales being woven about the events that happened and just like most stories there are those who are brimming with happiness and those who are looking for those responsible.

Rumour Has It / A Skirmish in Leringard
« on: March 03, 2010, 04:01:38 pm »
Many Leringard citizens wake one stormy spring morning to the sight and sounds of a large crowd milling around the Leringard Home For Delinquents, Leringard's orphanage, which for many years has taken in and cared for children of all sorts.

Signs of a very heated battle are all over the area. Those asking around find many witnesses who can attest to the fact that at some point during the night, a large group of mercenaries started making their way into the orphanage with the vile intent of bringing it down--and some say also slaughtering all those within. Many give full credit that the place still stands to the Blackwatch, who were quick to respond when a citizen reported screams to one of the late night patrols. A long and heated battle ensued, with the Blackwatch gritting their teeth and buckling down for many hours in what became a small guerrilla war. They fought the mercenaries with their own dirty tactics, creating enough of a distraction to allow the Headmistress, Lyn Tobias, to escape with the children out a cellar stormdoor.

The Blackwatch suffered two casualties and many sport nasty wounds, but they emerged triumphant. Miraculously, none of the orphans seem to have been seriously harmed, though several sport scrapes and bruises from the hasty escape. One orphanage worker was killed in the initial attack from the mercenaries, and Lyn is being treated for injuries. The mercenary bodies were dragged out and laid out in front of the orphanage to be examined, but as yet there is no clue as to who sent them.

The children seem resilient, and some of the excited orphans are now making the best of the situation. (Kids will be kids.) A few started up a game of "Blackwatch and Villains" in the orphanage's yard, with the "Blackwatch" running down the "villains" and saving the day. They also made up a little chant that has become contagious, even amongst some of the adults:

"The Blackwatch are thugs! But they're Leringard's thugs!"

A number of Leringard's citizens, including a few nobles who have complained about the Blackwatch's brutal but thorough tactics in the past, seem to turned over a new leaf or at the very least have had their eyes opened. There is a rumor that one has donated a large sum of True to the Blackwatch, as thanks for all that they do in protecting Leringard.

Rumour Has It / Ghastly Rumors from Bydell Castle
« on: March 03, 2010, 02:03:39 pm »
Word spreads around the Taur'en Kingdom in Alindor and eventually reaches the curious at a bar or two in Mariner's Hold.

It appears that a kindly held halfling from Bydell Castle, an old but warm female named Yota who was considered by many the grounding wisdom of the nobility, was brutally murdered.

Some form of strange magic that the Aragenite scholars are looking into. Her body was crisped by an odd sort of lightning and pinned for display in a very public place. The horrified guards that found her do not care much to share what her body looked like.

No one is sure why someone would strike against such a loved halfling but investigations are on-going.

Rumour Has It / A Strange Legendary Meeting
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:49:37 pm »
The buzz is high in Leringard as the Tempest is seen speaking to the clergy upon the Shrine of Gales, the temple of Mist in the city. However, such an event, though uncommon is not entirely foreign.

What is foreign is not long after, the presence of a Sea Elf within the heavily Mist aligned town. From the rumors, it is a high ranking priestess, a Naulti of Shindaleria that walks alongside a golden-haired halfling. The sea elf receives every glare and insult in existence, and many new creative ones. The halfling at her side however is a more familiar figure, known as Bianca Longbelly, one of the nine Naves of Ilsare, a prominent figure in the faith.

The two make their way to the Mist temple island and meet privately with the Tempest. What is discussed between them is unknown. It is clear that the jovial halfling is there to keep the peace and this she manages.

After a stressful meeting, the sea elf and the halfling leave the shrine and part from the tense city. Rumors abound of what happened and many wild stories are being spun around it.

Rumour Has It / Massive Tsunamis!!
« on: November 13, 2009, 12:41:48 am »
Word spreads quickly of the massive waves and storms that have hit western Mistone, especially around the Brelin Kingdom. As the news goes, Port Hempstead is a flooded city and the west side of town that faces the water front is completely devastated.

Outside in the fields, refugee camps are being kept quite busy, the large numbers of displaced people tending to the injured. The mood in the whole place is rather grim.

Further north in Krandor, severe damage has been suffered by all sea-side housing. However the quick action of druids have staved off greater damage to the rest of the city, though many lives were lost within their ranks.

Other coastal cities were affected to greater or lesser extents. Leringard seems to have managed to stave off the waves that threatened to overwhelm it. Instead they just suffered some superficial dockside damage.

In general the worse was suffered in Hempstead, and to those that look to the west, a storm continues to brew there, deep within the Almoran ocean.

Rumour Has It / Missing Bard
« on: October 21, 2009, 11:07:10 am »
To those that wander central Mistone, a rumor might reach their ears from a wandering merchant, or a passing halfling scout, or a word from a tipsy sailor in a tavern...

Did you hear about the halfling with the many bells? Yeah yeah! Acacea! Of course that's her name... Word has it she's gone lad. Some proper weird happening in the desert, magic gone all wiggly and she dealing with it but paying a dear price.

Aye aye, gone, no one knows where she be now... Aye... Disappear like! ... I don't know! I ain't a spellflinger!

Rumour Has It / Horror in Hempstead Docks!!
« on: September 16, 2009, 12:16:18 am »
Word spread quickly through settlements near Port Hempstead and beyond.

A dark ominous cloud moved into the city Wharf. A cloud not a part of the weather of the world, with intent it lowered from high in the skies into the docks.

As it landed, panic and horror ensued. Many died when the cloud slid into their mouths and ate them from within. The local authorities have closed the docks until further notice while investigation ensues. No ships are allowed in and out of city (Please roleplay accordingly, signs have been posted in the wharf district).

Some commendation goes to Darthirae and Acacea, who having been around at the time were extremely helpful and saved many lives while dealing with the chaos.

----

Seemingly related, a children's rhyme begins circulating among the younger residents near the wharf, and then rapidly to those of other port cities such as Leringard, and with a short seeming time, even to Lor.

"When fog like night steals the light,
Blow it away, blow it away!

When tendrils creep and beckon sleep,
Step away, step away!

When rain comes down, wear not a frown...
Wash it away, wash it away!

If sleepers left sleeping, no cause for weeping,
Time to play, time to play"

Rumour Has It / On several dock cities...
« on: September 14, 2009, 06:07:52 pm »
At the docks in the desert city of Audira a captain stands in the early morning, watching the many sleek Sederan vessels bob softly with the tide. Something in the distance catches his eye and as it gently washes upon the shore what seemed to be the start of a good day of honest work ends up being anything but...

Off the coast of the port of Nith a fisherman sits quietly in his small vessel pondering the mess he has gotten himself in after having cheated on his wife and having gotten the news the night before that a baby was on the way. Lost in his thoughts, his eye catches a glimmer of something that crawls slowly towards the shore and his problems do not seem so bad after all...

The street urchin marking scores in the busy afternoon of the Arnax docks where the personalities landing off their boats are as varied and as dangerous as the continent they enter, is surprised that he was able to snatch a coin from the dockmaster. The usually diligent man today has no eyes for his coin, even in the city with so much darkness in it, what he sees today sends shivers up his spine...

A large crowd of noble waits patiently for their expensive vessel to moor in the Lor docks district. Their expensive and pompous party where high society would brush and exchange the little controls of their world is delayed today. The line of the many fragrances they wear begins to mingle with a not so pleasant smell as they all stare blankly or horrified to what approaches the dock...

A vessel, all appropriate for their ports of destination, yet all bearing the same horrific sight. The entire crew brutally murdered. Whoever did the deed wasn't pleased with simply ending their lives in the swiftness of combat. No. All of the crew members have been crudely placed in grotesque manners along sails, masts, and decks. The terrible visage would terrify even the strongest minds, and in the docks full of people that they arrive in there are not many of those. Horror and chaos ensues while these effigies of death are cleaned and collected by dock workers that will have nightmares for a long time. The one feature that is similar on them all is the black circle that their sails have been painted with, a thick black oil that oozes down upon the decks...

Rumour Has It / Rumours about a Sorceress
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:27:49 am »
A small group of sailors and locals sit drinking in the Leringard Arms, enjoying a pint of ale one night. Pieces of their conversation are overheard.

... no really, she did! Paid me good money too.

Yer daft. No one sails to anywhere on Alibor except Stort, let alone there. Let alone a pretty woman all on her own!

*The bald, eastern-looking sailor burps loudly and thumps himself on the chest* Say what ya like, it's the truth. Lady Doom strike me down if it ain't! Prettiest lass I ever saw. Hair like a raven's wing and eyes like emeralds.

*A passing tradesman looks curiously at the fellow next to him at the bar* She give a name?

Don't rightly know if I ever asked ...

Well what was she like?

Lovely as a fresh sea breeze. Elfin, with them pointy ears ... odd lass, a bit, but polite enough and paid hard true.

*A local fish seller pipes up* Sounds a bit like Jaelle.

What, the sea witch? *He makes a warding sign, half in jest* Mist protect us from that one!

*He frowns at the merchant* Eh now! None of that ... she's a sweet lass, keeps to herself ... heard her sing once, voice like a siren ...

*He mutters* Sirens lure sailors onto rocks and kill them, you realize, right?

Coulda been her ... *He picks something out of his beard and examines it nonchalantly*

Well, what happened to her? I haven't seen her in here lately, nor around. Not in over a year, come to that!

*He murmurs under his breath* For which we should thank the Lady ...

*He shrugs and flicks whatever it was away and takes another long draw of ale* Who knows? She paid me sit there for a week or two, never came back ... so I left. She's prolly some pygmy meal now, or rotting in the River of Death.

I dunno ... ye might be wrong bout that. I saw a woman like that in Arnax, when last I was through there ... but that was nigh on three quarters of a year ago.

*The sailor, who seems a little smitten with the mystery woman, beams with hope* There ya go then! She's probably fine. The lass knows how to take care of herself ... though a year is a bit much, even for her ... *He frowns a little*

*The figure that has remained hooded whispers darkly* I wouldna count on that... *He then takes a long pull of his ale*

And why's that now?

*After a long pause* Cause when I saw her, she was being led like a lamb to slaughter by a dark spirit. *He makes a warding sign of his own*

A "dark spirit"? *He frowns more* What are you talking about?

*He nods gravely* Didna believe in him 'till that very day. Thought he was just a legend ... local folklore. Dark spirit, death himself, a demon, I dinna know which... only one thing's certain. If he took her for his own, she'd be better off rotting next to the River of Death on Alibor.

What do you mean, a demon's got her? *His voice raising dangerously* What's he going to do with her?

*His tone becomes deadly serious* I dinna know, lad. An' I'm sorry for yer lass's fate, whatever it may be. Eat out her heart, twist her mind, consume her soul ... all I know is that none who go with Him come back ... or if they do, it's broken and babbling and twisted.

*There is a long silence in the tavern before someone finally breaks it with a whisper*

Poor girl ...
Hall of Heroes and Heroines / Lueanne Lightfinger - One Last Farewell
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:38:24 pm »
Razeriem:  *looks around and spots Triba*
Razeriem:  Triba?
Triba Gues:  Uh huh...
Razeriem:  Lets go for a walk please.
Triba Gues:  *She waves a little to Raz* Sure..

Outside as they walk the streets of Port Hempstead

Razeriem: *grins very slightly*
Razeriem:  So how long have you known Lue?
Triba Gues: How old are you?
Razeriem: Young
Razeriem:  *winks*
Triba Gues:  Then probably just as long as you've been alive, what's this about?
Razeriem:  She have family around?
Triba Gues:  No.
Razeriem:  *slows his pace*
Razeriem:  Hedessa, Lue and I were off exporing the dwarven ruins in the Spirit Dunes desert.
Triba Gues:  *She listens to him carefully*
Razeriem:  We got deep into the ruin and Lue feel.

The pair finds themselves near the Port Hempstead mortuary.

Razeriem: I have seen death before, come for me and others.
Razeriem:  But this was different.
Razeriem:  I *pauses for just a moment*
Razeriem: I think She took the last of her.
Razeriem: If you have not seen her in the last week.  *swallows*
Razeriem: Then Lue is dead.  I am sorry.
Razeriem:  *points the last half block ahead to the building*
Triba Gues: *She blinks and remains quiet for a moment, the color on her tanned cheeks retreating and looking a little paler than usual*
Razeriem: I carried her all the way to here.
Razeriem: We couldn't leave her.
Razeriem:  *looks at Triba uneasily and then at the ground*
Triba Gues:  *She rubs her face and looks around, when she answers her voice comes low and choked* Lueanne? Little halfling, red hair?
Razeriem:  *nods slowly*
Razeriem: *tears are seen in his eyes and his voice is rough*  Yes I am sure it was Lue.
Razeriem: But I thought .. you might... have to see.  You know, ..for yourself. Triba Gues: *She swallows hard and cracks her neck once, then rubs her face as tears begin to freely move down her cheeks*
Razeriem:  *closes the distance with his arms slightly open*
Triba Gues:  *She eventually adds as her golden eyes well in tears* Her body is there...?
Razeriem:  *nods* They said they could , you know, keep it right for a week.
Razeriem: But she needs to be buried or whatever you think is right soon.
Triba Gues: *She winces at that and closes her eyes*
Razeriem:  *puts an arm over her shoulder and across her back unless she stop him or moves*
Razeriem:I am sorry. I did not know she was at ends with the Soul Mother.
Triba Gues:  *She lets a long shaky sigh and leans her head on his chest, not hugging him but holding her hands against her chest. Her forehead leaning on his chest and whimpering softly*
Razeriem:  *comforts her as best as he can, rubbing her upper back*
Razeriem:  I wish I got to know her better, she had a light about her.
Triba Gues:  *She shivers again and moves back a little. Her eyes tear stained and just looking generally miserably* She was that and more...
Triba Gues: *She glances over to the building* Thank you Razeriem...
Razeriem: *looks to her but doesn't make eye contact unless she does*
Razeriem: If you need anything.  I owe it to her.
Razeriem: I will help with anything you need done.
Triba Gues:  *She shakes her head* I will take care of it... If you were a friend, then keep an eye out for *she waves a hand* whatever that might be called... I will handle the rest. Razeriem:  *nods and swallows*
Razeriem:  Its a standing offer, if you ever need to know where or how.  I am sorry Triba.
Triba Gues:  *She nods to him and looks to the building* Me too... *She is obviously holding back a storm*
Triba Gues:  Thank you again...
Razeriem:  *shakes his head a little*
Razeriem:  *frowns and walks half way off*
Triba Gues:  *She nods to him and with a strained step she heads to the building*
Triba Gues: *She spend some time inside, getting all the paperwork done and arranging for Lueanne's body to be freed from custody*
Triba Gues: *She hires a simple carriage and under much discretion she takes the body with her after paying good money to extend the preservation of it just a little longer*
Triba Gues: *Hooded and minding just the horse, keeping herself busy she carries the body in discretion*
Triba Gues: *She seems stuck in her world and doesn't notice anyone as she walks the busy streets of Port Hempstead and books a private vessel to Leringard*

Triba arrives to the city of Leringard some time after. Gathering her items and her now forever silent friend, she makes a quiet trip to Palden lake.

Triba Gues: *She looks around and sighs, soft tears streaming freely down her eyes*
Triba Gues: *She picks a shovel and fighting the onslaught of tears, she begins the grizzly job of digging up a grave. Uncaring of the rain she toughens through it and digs through the night*
Triba Gues:  *Half way through the whole thing, the tears assault her and she is now whimpering violently as the hole is dug deeper and deeper against a tree full of memories*
Triba Gues:  *She tosses the shovel aside after the hole is dug and wiping her face from the tears she takes the body nearby and opens the blankets just enough to retrieve Lue's locket, which she then places around her neck. She kisses the halflings cold forehead and wraps the blanket around her once more*
Triba Gues: *Carefully she moves the body down into the hole and once the whole deed is done she leans against the edge of the grave, looking down, whimpering and crying for her*
Triba Gues:  *She whispers down at the open grave* I ever did love you. I dreamt of a life with you. A life I never had. I am sorry you had to go so soon, and I am even more sorry now that we never had a chance to find out.
Triba Gues:  *She murmurs down the grave* Have a safe trip, heart thief... It's just another journey... *She sniffles as she says that, her shoulders shaking and another set of tears begins to flow as she is unable to finish the thought*
Triba Gues:  *She sobs and then looks down at her twined necklaces, opening the latch on one she takes a seed and tosses it into the open grave. She wipes her nose and whispers* Its from the forest... Just a little piece of me that you will always have...
Triba Gues:  *She takes a long deep breath as she shudders in tears and picking up the shovel again she begins to draw the soil that was dug out back into the grave. A whole miserably and whimpering view*

The never-quiet approach of another halfling is only silenced by the heavy rain.
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She hesitates for a moment as though unsure what to say or do,  the rain coursing off an invisible form, then reaches a hand, pulls it back with the sound of chimes, then finally rests it on Triba's shoulder*
Triba Gues:  *She shivers and turns all of a sudden, unsure if a ghost has decided to visit her, her tear stained eyes refocus quickly as she recognizes Acacea's sounds and smells. She looks towards the invisible figure and her lower lip shakes as she tries to form words that do not come*
Acacea Thistletounge: *She passes a hand over her invisible face as if in indecision and then finally waves it aside, looking hesitantly between Triba and the newly dug grave*
Triba Gues: *She sniffles and holds the shovel in her hand. Clearly she has been suffering for a while now. She whispers barely audible and in a shaky manner* Lue... *it seems that is all she can get out*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *again the uncertain pause, and she glances again between Triba and the grave, her hand still on her shoulder*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *A moment passes silent in the rain, an awkwardness or uncertainty more present now than in other places or times, as though she is left with utterly no idea of what to do; another moment, and she finally offers a hug*
Triba Gues: *She takes the hug gladly, ignoring the original awkwardness, she simply wraps her arms around Acacea and wimpers quietly against her. The comfort offered seems to be of great help as she calms significantly in the old friend's arms*
Acacea Thistletounge:  Znihi? *She finally asks*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She leaves her arms where they are, and looks past Triba into the darkness with her cheek close to her former second's*
Triba Gues: [Tell]  Spirit Dunes ruins... *She whispers to her, now calmer in Acacea's arms. She takes a long deep breath and rests her head against her old Sandcaller* Magically dehydrated...
Triba Gues:  Mbuhud Torim hourm... *She whispers to her, now calmer in Acacea's arms. She takes a long deep breath and rests her head against her old Sandcaller* Lekusecca tinathedit...
Acacea Thistletounge:  *There is a yet longer pause, and she blinks once at the location*

The light steps of another halfling can be heard down the road.

Jennara Creekskipper:  *waves*
Triba Gues:  *The two halflings are hugging each other next to an open grave*
Triba Gues:  *A shovel nearby and clearly Acacea consoling the other*
Jennara Creekskipper:  *keeps her distance and stays quiet*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She finally speaks, still a little awkwardly, after the long pause* U el myhha.
Triba Gues:  *She nods against Acacea. She presses her forehead against hers in an endearing acceptance before moving back and looking to Jennara*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She furrows her brow, of course not having heard the approach, and glances over her shoulder*
Triba Gues:  *Her sad face quirks in a small sad smile*
Triba Gues: [Tell]  *she looks to the grave* The halfling council came to say goodbye... it seems.
Triba Gues:  *she looks to the grave* Dni necwcurk syorsuc seli dy mea kyytpai... ud miilm.
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She giggles a little at that, the sound clashing with the setting*
Acacea Thistletounge:  U zem vomd dnurgurk dned.
Triba Gues:  *There is sadness as she picks up the shovel once more, but she seems strengthened by the company and begins to cover the grave*
Jennara Creekskipper:  *lowers her head*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *The uncertainty returns as Triba begins to cover the grave, and perhaps a touch of unsettledness; after a moment she leans over to help, though the unsettled expression remains*
Triba Gues:  *She nods to Acacea gratefully as she helps her. She looks confused, sad, and mournful, but most importantly unsure as to what to do. The grave slowly gets covered with the dirt*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She discreetly sabotages the burial as if in an attempt to leave air holes*
Triba Gues:  *She glances at Acacea's attempt and then covers her face* Of course...
Triba Gues:  *She sighs a little and shakes her head amused, changing it a little to give the grave some breathing room*
Triba Gues:  *Eventually once its done she sits next to it and lets the shovel fall at her side*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She plops down in the mud, staff across lap*
Jennara Creekskipper:  *reaches into her hood*

A lily is placed over the fresh grave.

Triba Gues:  **She nods a little to Jennara and smiles as she places the flower over the grave*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She simply sits there for a few moments in the rain, looking tired and unsure; after a time she lifts the pipes Jennara had made for her and begins to play instead*
Triba Gues:  *She leans back on the little incline of the hill to listen to Acacea's song, glad to have her music and company. Remaining quiet there while they say goodbye*
Acacea Thistletounge: *There are no words and no stories of the fallen, no real memories woven through music; it is a simple melody played with bare feet pressing together here and there, a presence instead of a tale*
Triba Gues:  *She lets a small sigh out, her hands coming to rub her eyes and look down at the grave, then up at Jennara*
Triba Gues:  Lueanne... *She says simply, in case there is any doubt*
Acacea Thistletounge: *Small hurts and bruises from travel heal over slowly and are forgotten, the uncertainty lost somewhere in the process; she doesn't reach out to Triba or truly acknowledge Jennara beyond the watching, but is simply there, until she is no longer*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *Her eyes shift briefly to Triba at the word and then wander upwards again without a pause in the melody*
Jennara Creekskipper:  *frowns more than she was*

As if by odd chance, Razeriem on his horse can be heard trotting down the road.

Razeriem:  *skids to a stop*
Razeriem:  Heya ladies.
Razeriem: *eyes never quite make it to Triba*
Triba Gues:  *The halflings stand quietly as Acacea plays a song on her flute and they sit before a freshly dug grave*
Razeriem: *eyes catch upon the grave*
Razeriem:  *raz let his horse out slowly towards the road and says something softly*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *Her wandering black eyes pause on Razeriem briefly, then continue onward; there is a strange music in the air from her pipes, a melody that is not quite a song*
Razeriem: *a deep sigh may be heard as he allows his horse to go to a slow trot*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She finally lowers the pipes again after the breath of them fades into the rain and the trees and echoes around them for a time after she's ceased playing them*
Triba Gues:  *She gives some time for the silence to find its way back around them before she says anything*
Triba Gues: *Eventually she passes a hand over the soil and stands*
Acacea Thistletounge: *She sits there in the rain and cranes her head back to look at Triba*
Triba Gues:  *She whispers down, a great deal of melancholy and sadness in her voice* Goodbye heart thief... You'll be missed...
Acacea Thistletounge:  *She pushes herself to her feet and after another pause, lays her hand on Triba's shoulder again*
Triba Gues:  *She glances towards Acacea and gives her a very grateful smile when she does that. She brushes her hand against Acacea's as well and nods to her*
Acacea Thistletounge:  U ser'd mdea.
Acacea Thistletounge:  *The words take a moment to work their way out*
Triba Gues: [Tell]  *She nods* Be well, Wind Spirit...
Triba Gues:  *She nods* Pi zicc, Zurt Mbuhud...
Triba Gues: [Tell]  Thank you.. *she adds in a murmur*
Triba Gues: Dnerg ayo.. *she adds in a murmur*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *she lingers there a moment longer, glancing to the grave, but mostly to Triba, her expression a muddle of things not said or sorted*
Acacea Thistletounge: *She finally leaves it at that*
Jennara Creekskipper:  *nods once*

The little halfling bard sings a ward of magic around the other two halflings.

Triba Gues:  *She smiles slightly at her magic and that seems to be the best farewell and the most understanding one that Acacea can give her*
Acacea Thistletounge:  *After only a few steps, she sings herself from sight, rain coursing off an invisible form as she makes her way out*
Triba Gues: *She picks up her shovel and glances at Jennara*
Jennara Creekskipper: [Whisper]  I have...
Jennara Creekskipper:  *swallows hard*
Triba Gues: *She rests a hand on Jennara's shoulder and looks at her*
Jennara Creekskipper: [Whisper]  I have... done... this...
Jennara Creekskipper:  *waves her hand a bit*
Jennara Creekskipper: [Whisper]  ... too many times, but not as much for people I know.
Triba Gues:  *She nods softly as tears mingle with the rain traveling down her cheeks*
Jennara Creekskipper: [Whisper]  Does she have no family?
Triba Gues:  *She shakes her head slightly* Her brother has never appeared... She never found him after many years seeking.
Jennara Creekskipper: *takes in a short, noisy breath and sighs it out*
Triba Gues: *She nods slightly* I think as far as family went, I was the closest she ever came to...
Jennara Creekskipper: [Whisper]  I am glad you are here.
Triba Gues: *She shoulders the shovel and looks around, then nods to her words* So many things unsaid... *She sighs and looks to Jennara* It seems indeed destiny that the halfling council is all here. Thank you for letting your feet guide you here.
Jennara Creekskipper:  *furrows her brow a little*
Jennara Creekskipper:  *then just nods*
Triba Gues:  *She nods to her, squeezing her shoulder slightly and moving back towards the ox nearby*
Triba Gues:  *She takes another deep breath* I need time... Thank you again.
Jennara Creekskipper:  *nods once*
Triba Gues:  *She tugs on the ox, glances to the grave as a tear drops down her cheek and then wanders off*

This is the development journal for Triba Gues. I'm reserving this post for her appearance description and potential thread indexing.

Appearance Description:

This heavily tanned and slender halfling stands abnormally taller than many of her kind. Though her story and features are often intimidating, neither stance nor reputation can completely conceal a deeper care beneath. Her caramel colored eyes, which can quickly shift between amusement or a piercing stare, always seem to be attentive to her surroundings.

Smooth dark brown hair falls long and fluidly over shoulders and back, easily reaching below her waist to curl at the ends from many years of being bound tightly in braids. Still soft and well cared for, it swirls with ease around her figure while managing to stay out of the way of her movements.

Her slim halfling body show no signs of laziness or lack of care. While not ribbed with heavy lines of muscles it is clear that every inch of her gently curved figure is a testament to an athletic lifestyle. This appearance is only accentuated when the occasional impossible act of physical contortion is seen from her with such grace and so little effort that many are left questioning her true nature.

Several tattoos of varying styles and origins are seen on her skin when her clothing allows for the viewing. Clearly marked by different artists and at different times of her life, they range from scarred almost to birthmark level, to fading with age, through large and colorful and into the ever unfinished projects that grow with time. Not quite tattooed but similar in permanency is a pair of scars, one simple white line to each bicep.

Often garbed in easy to move in (and out of) clothes, certain features rarely abandon her attire unless she wears a stylish dress of some kind. The first two are her signature weapons. Buckled on her left hip, a silvery gold toned mithril handaxe whose edge glows with an unearthly fire, bursts of strange crimson energy often seen arise from its shape. On her right thigh a curved mithril kukri with similar coloration as her other weapon, its sharp and deadly edge sparkling with small shocks of electricity that die out on the leathery flap that binds it to her leg. Another item of interest are a pair of silvery bindings that wrap around her arms, anyone who bothers to examine them could see the static energy being emitted by them, and the occasional clear emanation of energy if they ever come close to one another.

However, while Tooth and Nail, the names given to her main weapons, are a constant feature on her, it is not strange to see many more weapons latched to her body. A deadly thorny whip curled on her left leg. An elven short-bow strapped to her back. A terrifying club, too large for her size, with dented metal scraps on its end hanging from a backpack. The occasional glint of a hidden dagger along her clothing. And even splinters of fine and sharp metal used as pins on her hair but easily doubling as instruments of death. Fully garbed she would pass as a small armory and often does so out of whim, amusement or need.

In the end, her movements, despite the many attachments, are fair and graceful. Though thuggish as she may seem from her equipment, an almost elven sense of breezy fey-like movements contrast starkly with her accouterments once again aiding in that chaotic feeling that permeates her personality and behavior.

Tattoo Descriptions:

The following is a listing of Triba's tattoos, detailing their appearance and origins.

- Left Arm:

A wreath of thorns encircling her forearm, it has been modified since its original drawing to have rose buds upon the thorns. The original wreath of thorn looks relatively crude in style, very simple colors and an even simpler tattooing pattern, bordering on scarification. It was made by an averagely skilled tattoo artist in Katherian, whose technique mimics the reputation of the town. The rose buds make a stark contrast against the wreath of thorns for their coloring is vivid and almost paint-like. These flowers were added by a rare Ilsarean priestess who studied under Triba to learn her interesting methodology and culminated her apprenticeship by drawing on her teacher's arm.

- Right arm:

Near her wrists a resting Moon Tiger surrounded by blue and silver sparkles of magic. The tiger's head lays nearest to her hand while the long tail curls back towards her elbow. The detail in this tattoo is exquisite, following Triba's taper and needle methodology which offers plenty of room for detail at the expense of comfort. This particular tattoo has an odd enchantment to it that was placed by the seer Neru, its effect unknown, the only tell-tale sign to any practitioner of magic is that a strange sense of illusion or divination plays upon it.

- Back towards front:

On her back, upon the left side, at heart level is a mid-sized fairy (about 6 inches tall). The fairy looks like its being affected by a wind that is making her hair all a mess. She is garbed with wild leaves and flowers (a knowledgeable person would know that they are rare species of plants, some even thought to be extinct). The fey has small trinkets and keys hanging from all sorts of places like pouches or twigs or even her hair, it seems more trinkets have been added through time. In her pose, she mimics blowing something off her hand towards Triba's left arm. From this blowing action, wind gusts, leaves, petals and little sparkles of magic encircle her ribs towards her chest, they round under her left ribcage and end in a smattering of colors and patterns on the left side of her belly. This complex tattoo was designed by herself, drawn and colored to full detail on a painting she places in whichever house she is spending the most time on, and tattooed by Mary Wildthorn, Triba's tattooing partner, in Spellgard.

- Back, right side:

On her right shoulder blade lies a light shade, just a pigment under her normal skin color, of a  small four leaf clover cradled comfortably in a bed of nuts and berries. This tattoo was not quite painted but rather burnt and scarred with extreme care through druidic ritual in Alindor. While the process of tattooing this particular design was clearly quite painful, there is no lack of detail and in the end it almost seems like a beautiful natural birthmark.

- Right frontal upper thigh:

This strange tattoo seems to be a work in progress, right now it has a golden clover leaf wreath, wrapped around the red shape of a heart, upon a circle of stars. The circle of stars is being held by a bodiless and unfinished bird beak. This is being drawn by her, thus the patterns follow the similar appearance to other tattoos she has done, but the work is sporadic and thus some shapes seem to have just slightly different methodologies, the more recent ones looking prettier than the older ones. The Heart shape is the one which looks best when compared to the other figures.

- Feet:

On top of both of her feet a pair of black wolf paw prints are drawn, they are very faint by now, the figures are very simple and with just one color. This was tattooed by a Folianite Ranger in the Ulan Treetop Village during her long stay there and by how the figures are fading it is clear that the technique used is not one to make the marks last forever unless repainted.

Rumour Has It / Assaults in southern Mistone
« on: November 16, 2007, 05:24:45 pm »
Reports fly through southern Mistone of several caravans being assaulted on the major roads from Fort Vehl towards both Dapplegreen and Halin. The rumors say that shrouded halflings are the ones behind these attacks and everyone is advised to keep away from the Gloom Woods as much as possible. Escort services are being provided by a few opportunist individuals whose aid is as sketchy as the source of the problem.

Those who frequent the temple of Rofirein in the fort city or serve the dragon god himself can hear from the clergy that these events are not the usual petty crimes that often occur nearby and that they should be watched carefully and the perpetrators be brought to justice swiftly, lest chaos reign once more.

To those who listen further into the rumors have heard of actual fights occurring north of the township of Halin, in a large settlement of halflings. The Flatbottom Village of Swampedge, as it is known to traders, seems to lately be the cause of many calamities, including fires and diseases, and now actual battles. Advice is given to all to stay away from there as people aren't sure of the nature of this conflict and halfling in-fighting seems to be the sole cause.

Rumour Has It / Lights around Krandor
« on: October 17, 2007, 08:01:13 pm »
Rumor catches around the vicinity of the small township of Krandor in the continent of Mistone that a rather terrifying play of lightning and thunder erupted from a single home in the middle of a sunny afternoon.

Those who watched the event could have sworn that the lightning took all sorts of shapes and that it eventually flew towards central Mistone, a fact confirmed by some observant Griffon Scouts patrolling the Spirit Dunes desert.

The house is rumored to be owned by a friendly sorcerer who has made Krandor his home for many years and he appears to have been unharmed by the strange events, however some swear that he was changed and people are warned to keep their distance from the strange place, after all who knows for sure the nature of those with magic...

Fixed Bugs / Port Hempstead Blunder - CLOSED
« on: April 04, 2007, 07:36:36 am »
When I was building Port Hempstead, the tileset that I used had some limitations that did not allow me to represent the city's Crimsom Memorial how I wanted.

In order to work around this limitation, I created some models that would circumvent these problems. Mainly the grass squares that can be seen at the west end of the memorial, and the massive blank space that was in front of the gates.

Myself and with Thak's help, we made some customized models and graphics that gave the city some unique spice. Unfortunately in the rush to release V3, at some point during some transfer of files these updated images were stranded. My local version was working fine, but the version that was uploaded to the server did not have these files.

Thus the city had some serious ugly malfunctions.

During all this time, I was not able to observe this bug, because my local version, had the files needed. However it was not until last night where I heard that there was some rather terrible grass tiles in the city and it felt devoid of flavour. I was confused because I purposefully attempted to fix these issues before the city was ever made.

It is here when I stumbled upon some screenshots that AeonBlues had taken of the memorial, and much to my dismay I saw what everyone else was seeing.

Needless to say, I felt like an idiot.

So with that all said, I feel I must apologize to the community for my blunder, the files that were supposed to be in the hak files are already on their way to Nibor, which will be available in the update that will happen somewhat soon, and all will be better.

Heh... sorry again about all this... I will proceed to find a hole and bury my face in it for a good while now.

Layonara Server / New Version Online V3
« on: March 02, 2007, 10:55:09 pm »
Alright, lets start V3 with a new version online thread! First step in this update is to download an updated control hak, you can snatch it here:
  Layov3 Control (2.28 MBytes, 2007-03-02 23:35:22)
  Now for the actual stuff:

We are proud to announce Version 3 of Layonara. This update establishes the base for all future Layonara development in the NWN game. While you wont right away see all the plans that we have for the world, the foundations are there for us to use them to spice Layonara in many different ways. These features will be slowly rolled out during the course of the year as they are polished and refined. So for now most of this first rollout is a lot of visual eye candy. Of course that's never a bad thing :)
Stay tuned for more developments, it only gets better.

New Features

 • Added over 400 new armour appearances spread throughout all armour types and genders. A lot of the previously human-only types now work for all races.
 • Added over 1400 new placeables.
 • Added over 450 new creature models.
 • Many tilesets have been added and/or upgraded. A lot of areas will slowly be upgraded to these new and more dynamic environments with the passing of time.
 • Added deity themed cloaks - Soon you will be able to purchase them or modify your own to match them.
 • The foundations for a new loot system are in place. Over 60 different types of loot drops will be available.
 • Added PvP Widget item, please read the new rules on PvP.
 • Added a new starting player area where you can learn about the world, its lore and rules. Down the line it will also assist with the character creation process and serve as an OOC gathering area for players.
 • Added two starting locations, one in the City of Port Hempstead which is the busiest port city on the continent of Mistone. The City of Gold is where those characters seeking adventure for noble causes; fame, glory, or wealth for themselves; or just good work in trade and commerce should begin. While not completely devoid of corruption itself, it offers a neutral ground for those who wish to adventure but have no objectives that are directly harmful to society. The second option is another port city, that of Fort Vehl on the southern end of Mistone. This fortified town is the blackened seed of corruption of the Co'rys Kingdom. Shady deals and back-alley murders are common there, and a set of eyes over one's shoulder is always recommended. However, for those wishing to touch upon the darker aspects of the world, this location presents opportunities to establish sinister or more temporal alliances with people of like minds, and attracts those who are unlikely to be welcomed in more civilized parts of the world. A nearby entrance to The Deep is rumored to exist in the Gloom Woods, north of Fort Vehl.
 • Added a new nifty Boss XP Reward system.
 • Added a new day/night spawn system. The world isn't so predictable anymore, be wary!
 • Added a new customization system that allows us to use all the extra bioware dyes that were introduced in a previous update.
 • Added many new areas. Re-explore the world.
 • Added and upgraded many quest areas.
 • DMs now have more control over encounters in the world for their quests.
 • Added Michaelis Draego's WLDQ Reward
Updated Features

 • Many housing areas were updated that had been waiting for a while.
Tons more to come! Stay tuned!
Credits

Many people were a part of this monumental effort to bring all this content together and even more of what is coming ahead. Lots of thanks go to them for all their work and their continuous love for this world, without them and without all of you we would not have this great place to enjoy our time.  NWN has been running for quite sometime, yet even after all these years and a second version out there we have a great following in Layonara. To say that we appreciate your presence is an understatement and we hope that you remain with us through all the new experiences we will bring to you during the next few years.
  Thank you very much!

Hey guys since there's been questions asked, yes this release includes all the rebalanced low level encounters and a working loot system, along with all the initial bugs that were found upon release. My apologies for not posting them above as we thought the original release should have gotten those bugs fixed and we felt that now it was as we intended. For the most part.
So yes, last night's update includes all the bug fixes that had been fixed until today, including the working loot system and the softer spawns for low level players.
