This thread is for documentation purposes for Raz's Ship, The Ravenwind.  It will include statistics, special weapons, enchantments etc. when they become available and as needed.  This thread is also to document the ships current ports and patrol routes for RP, Quest and GM purposes.  In addition this is to record ship's crew, personal, any special passengers.  Lastly this thread is to record any damages, repairs, costs and expenses.

The Ravenwind

Large ship constructed from yew wood.  Plated and some reinforcement with Mithral.  Golden sails, sails and rigging constructed from (that demon spider) silk.  Light weight and durable for size.

Armaments: Moderately armed.  Main weapon: Argali Trueaxe designed ballista made from mithral/demon spider silk on a pivoting mount on he fore-deck.  Ballista head forged from adamant and mithril depending on use with explosive heads.

Captain: Razeriem

First Mate: to be determined

Ship's Mage: Zarianna

Officers: to be determined

Crew: to be specified

Home Port: Hurm (current)

Allies: to be determined likely, Hurm and Red Bear, possibly Llilwich.

Enemies: to be determined, pirates/slavers

Purpose: Patrolling waters, hunting pirates/slavers/anything resembling a Kuhl Warship.

Projects:: Build crew unity, drill and practice, cross-train (even if its basic function), familiarization with ship and abilities and use of magic in combat (Raz acting as ship's mage for time being in addition to Captain.)

Tactics:  Magic familiarization focused on damage spells (evocations), defensive screens (gust of wind, shield, stoneskin), enchantments (ship weapons if possible-archers secondary), speed, unexpected nimbleness, working from positions not in favor of the wind to give false expectation to enemy ships and overcoming with magic (gust of wind.)  Use unexpected speed and agility, magic and specialized ballista with unexpected punch.

Primary area of patrol.  Area patrolled until indicated otherwise.

Sea of Fury, with refueling port being Sedera (hopefully-Raz was in the naval battle to defend them, figure they should allow him to spend money to port and refuel.)  Current purpose: take any pirate/slaver vessels possible.  Capture or sink anything resembling a Kuhl Warship-if they have any.  Gather intelligence on movements through the Sea of Fury and from to the Kingdom of Kuhl.  Sneak occasional peeks at the Kuhl ports and coastlines.

General Discussion / Katherian Quest
« on: August 20, 2012, 03:58:33 pm »
Anyone interested in a quest line to take place in Katherian.  It would be easier treaded by non-good alignments, but open to whomever.  Its focus would be on political espionage, cloak and dagger, power and prestige type pursuits.

It would likely be a bi-weekly quest line, with as much taking place between sessions as during them.  In fact the session at some point may wait until prompting by character actions.

I imagine it would involve 1-4 groups of PC's working together or in opposition to some degree in the same city of politics.   Each attempting to makes gains for themselves and their 'faction'

So the question is, who is interested in such a quest line and has a character appropriate for such pursuits?  Feel free to also mention when you'd most favor the quest line run, weekdays/weekends  EST morning/afternoon/evening?

Thanks for reading

Ask A Gamemaster / Magic Missile and Seeker Arrow
« on: August 04, 2012, 08:27:13 pm »
Other GM's please feel free to weigh in on this with your opinions.

But this is an FYI for anyone on any of my quests.

Spells and abilities that automatically hit their target, such as Seeker Arrow and Magic Missile do not allow you to target specific body parts.

Seeker Arrow for effects is very similar to Magic Missile, by DnD read Seeker Arrow even says it turns corners and defeats concealment, just as Magic Missile does.

And this is the read of the Magic Missile spell in DnD:

Magic Missile :: d20srd.org

A missile of magical energy darts forth from your fingertip and strikes its target, dealing 1d4+1 points of force damage.

The missile strikes unerringly, even if the target is in melee combat or has less than total cover or total concealment. Specific parts of a creature can’t be singled out. Inanimate objects are not damaged by the spell.

And yes, for me you can't use a Magic Missile to target a lever or button (inanimate object.)  I do allow Seeker Arrows to target such, trade offs of the two different abilities.  For me, Magic Missile hits phased objects (ethereal) while a Seeker Arrow is not guaranteed of such.

As with all judgment rule calls, they are the domain of the DM running the event, please remember to respect them and your GM's, no one is trying to belittle your powers.

Further edification for my quests: Deflect Arrows will stop any one missile projectile (even Seeker Arrow) if the reflex roll is made.  After all if the target catches the arrow in her hand, the arrow still made contact with the target.  And Spell Resistance can negate Magic Missiles.  Parry will also work against Seeker Arrow, but would be ineffective against Magic Missile, unless the shield was enchanted with "Shield" spell magic or the like.

As always I am willing to work with inventive ideas and actions without proscribed mechanics to them.  Just keep in mind I also try to balance the level and intent of powers with the game world, other classes and my take of purpose and intent of the abilities.

Just for Fun / Torts and Retorts
« on: July 11, 2012, 06:36:51 pm »
A famous one and a personal one.

The famous one being between Lady Astor and Winston Churchill

Lady Astor said to Churchill, "If you were my husband, I'd poison your tea," to which he responded, "Madam, if you were my wife, I'd drink it!"

The Personal one was between myself and my wife, who will remain nameless.  *grins*

The wife was telling me about a friend who will have some time off of work for the next few weeks.

Me:    "How did she manage that?"
Wife:  "She made a deal with a demon."
Me:     "So...What did you get out of the deal?"
Wife:   "What do you mean.... Hey!!  Jerk."
Me:      *Smirks, pleased as punch.*

Trade and Market Hall / Ambrosia - Drinks of the Gods
« on: May 31, 2012, 06:07:30 pm »
Exotic spirits for sale.  Drink of the Gods!

I have for sale a case of five extremely rare spirits, each worth a fortune to a collector or connoisseur.   One time chance of a life time.

Bid now or miss your chance forever.

Each case will be auctioned off separately.  Auction closed when bids stop.  All auctions start at 1,000 true a case,  that's only 100 true a bottle!  Each bottle is easily worth ten times that!

Descriptions of each are as follows:

Creme de Katia: This green and minty liquor is made with a lot of natural sugars, of course!  It mixes well in many drinks but it also stands alone.

Ilsare's Golden Locks: This golden mead is sweet and smooth.  After a few drinks its imbibers experience a warm tingly sensation in their chests from its secret ingredients.

Pyrtechon's Curse: Upping the ante with five different peppers. Pyrtechon's Curse brings the heat.  Just catching a whiff of the stuff is enough to start clearing sinuses.  The essential oils from the chiles have obviously made a home in the bottle, as evidence by the color and oily texture.  The alcohol clears away the heat quickly though, leaving behind a smoky chipotle flavor, its Curse, a satisfying warmth that seems to say "that wasn't so bad.  Of course you want more."  And then it proceeds to slap you around all over again.

Shadon's Trap: This clear, corn-grain alcohol has virtually no taste. But its near to pure alcohol content packs a wallop like a knife in the gut. Rumors abound of this drink being laced into other drinks and then when their drinkers pass out, their purse contents becoming as empty as their stomachs.

The Spider's Kiss:  This dark syrupy-green alcohol is rumored to be distilled from a deep fungi and a spider's venom.  If not mixed in a precise manner it is said to be deadly.  Its recipe and even name are rare known secrets.  While its taste is most closely related to molasses rums, it is unique all to its own.

I discovered the Creme de Katia in the forests of the Horn Kingdom. Ilsare's Golden Locks while at the Breath of the Muse. I found Pyrtechon's Curse in an old wine celler in Boyer Kingdom.  Experienced and then tracked down Shadon's Trap in Hurm.  And stumbled on The Spider's Kiss through mercantile contacts.

Each is an authentic masterpiece!

Rumour Has It / Hempstead crops
« on: April 04, 2012, 03:40:35 pm »
Hempstead crops, like many places are suddenly wilting in the field.

Not all fields are affected, but enough to cause some shortages and great concerns.

Authorities are looking into causes and affected areas.  The only immediate effects are a slight spike in some food prices as various parties start stockpiling grains in case of continued shortages.

Rumour Has It / Hlint crops wilting
« on: March 26, 2012, 11:19:15 pm »
Add to the list of cities, towns and nations suffering famine and crop failure the name of Hlint.

The crops being brought in are not as plentiful as they should be.  In fact some of the crops remaining in the field are now being harvested early as they are starting to wilt in the field.

Rumour Has It / Rael movements
« on: March 23, 2012, 05:05:42 pm »
The Rael Kingdom, affected by the recent crop failures, has made some logistical changes.

It seems Rael has reassigned numerous wagons and convoys to to haul fish and seafood goods from its coastal cities to those cities starting to suffer shortages, such as Prantz.

Wagons can be seen traveling from Raylyn, Seawatch Fort, and even Lor to Rael's non-coastal forts and cities.

Also loads of odd mushrooms and fungi begin to make an appearance in the Prantz markets.

While food prices rise and people are worried over certain shortages, many can be heard praising Lord Rael for his leadership, actions and compassion for the common citizen.

Rumour Has It / Fireball in the Arms
« on: November 22, 2011, 02:38:43 pm »
Rumors and reports in Leringard tell of an abduction from the Arms.  A woman known as the Seer of the Leringard Arms, Rose by name was snatched out from under the Blue Mercenary's nose.  Details are sketchy, but a fireball was apparently launched into the Arms to cover the escape.  At least one man was killed in the explotion.

The Blackwatch, protecting the citizenry of Leringard valiantly tracked down the abductors and and drove them off, freeing the Seer from their clutches.  Some reports say that Rose was brutalized by her abductors and after the Blackwatch cared for her most grivious wounds she was released into the care of the Arm's agian.

Let us hope the Mercenary Steel can protect his own domain this time.

Rumour Has It / Murder in Vehl?
« on: August 17, 2011, 06:12:36 pm »
The home of a successful import export merchant in Fort Vehl has been closed off and subject to investigation by City Guard, Rofireinite officials, a small number of representatives of other shrines in Fort Vehl.

Rumor is that a gruesome murder is the cause of the flurry of activity, the home remained under guard and reportedly with noone entering or leaving for hours before a select team that included priests and healers prepared magical protections and entered the home.

Team then started entering a couple hours later and continued through most of the day.  Certainly this will be all the talk of Vehl in the days to come.

But for the moment, little is known, other than some of those that entered came back out looking green and sick.

Rumour Has It / Burn baby, Burn!
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:40:36 pm »
Prist in the Morholt kingdom has suffered from a range fire raging out of control.

The cause of the fire is unknown.  Some local land owners were forced to mobilize large numbers of slaves to fight the fires and dig fire breaks before the fires could burn into their precious vineyards.  A handful of vineyards still suffered losses but thankfully at the expense of only few score of slaves, lost in fighting the fire, the majority of the vineyards threatened were spared the worst of it.
