CNR Suggestions/Discussion / crafting and gods...
« on: January 28, 2006, 08:35:36 am »
I have been thinking... (which isn't that good an idea, but sometimes I just can't help it) But I had this idea that the choise of god would influence your crafting skill, e.i. whorshippers of Beryl would get +10 % on gem crafting and followers of sulterio would get +10 % on smithing, followers of Dorand would get +10 on 2 or 3 crafts of their choice etc. just an idea to reflect that the gods help their follower in the task they find very important. Just an idea, don't know how it could be implemented but...

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Changed crossbow recipies
« on: January 18, 2006, 09:23:54 pm »
I have just noticed that all crossbows weigh more than the resources used in order to produce them e.i. 1 branch (5.5 lbs) can either be turned into a light crosbow (6 lbs) or a heavy crossbow (9 lbs).

Furthermore, I think that the most important part of the crossbow "the prod" has been left out of this recipe, this prod was before 1500 made from either wood or composite prods made of horn, wood and sinew. After 1500 these prods were replaced by steel prods, which resulted in a much better bow. So I would suggest that the recipes are altered from:

1 plank
1 bow string

to

1 plank
1 metal prod * (for the crossbow in question heavy or light)
1 bowstring
(1 firing mechanism)**

* I suggest that this metal prod is made from (+0), iron (+1), adamantium  (+2), and mithril (+3), respectively. I suggest that these prods are made under weapon crafting, since it must be the craft closest to what would be needed in real life. Furthermore, if a iron prod was made by casting it (tinkering), a prod would result with absolutely no flexibilety. I suggest two different recipies

Prod for light crosbow (2.5 lbs):

2 metal ingot (of the mentioned metals)
1 small mold

Prod for heavy crossbow (5 lbs):
3 metal ingots
1 small mold

** the firing mechanism could be added as well since this must be considered more important than the wood used for the body of the bow. This firing mechanism could also be placed under weapon smithing with the recipe:

1 ingot of metal  (using the same metal as above)
1 small mold

This will of course make crossbow crafting more difficult than it is now, but in my opinion wood crafting is one of the easiest crafts at all. Thus that would actually be a good thing as I see it. This would also account for the high prices on crossbows, which isn't that logical with the easy access to wood.

I would suggest a similar change to bow making, but the best idea for an altered recipe for bow making is adding "ordinary cams" (of the above metals) to all bows. This would not be completely logical but neither is the use of sandpaper (I think that bows have been produced for more than 10.000 years before sandpaper was invented) or the use of molds in weapon crafting (a weapon smith would have no use for a mold when he made iron weapons, except as an ashtray of course). So using this solution would make wood crafters more dependent on other crafts, as weapons smiths are depending on wood crafting and tinkering.

A second solution could be adding 2 different types of wood "ordinairy wood" and "bow quality wood" and you would have a chance of getting this high qualit wood when you cut trees. 20 % for hickory, 15 % for oak, 10 % for mahogony, and 5 % for yew. or just 5 % - 10 % for all types of wood.

Fixed Bugs / shafts
« on: January 13, 2006, 01:45:00 am »
In line with other none finished products I would like to be able to produce shafts from more than 1 bransch at a time, 2 branches would be sufficient I think.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / question about new wooden shields
« on: January 13, 2006, 01:36:00 am »
Are these new wooden shields craftable? if so where I have looked under wood crafting and armor crafting and it was in neither.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Mining and trecutting question
« on: January 10, 2006, 01:35:00 am »
Winthersheart told me that the chances of the deposits/trees disapear are almost doubled if two people mines/cuts instead of one. Due to the script being run twice, is this correct? If so is it intentional or just unavoiable?

Layonara Server / bug with clay deposits
« on: January 10, 2006, 12:41:00 am »
from time to time I have exsperienced that the deposit doesn't give any lumps when it says "you have dug a lump..." he stops digging but there is no clay to be seen anywhere. Is this lag related or what?

When crafting anything neading metals, iron is always ranked higher than bronze. However two nuggets are neaded for one bronze ingot but only one nugget for iron, this means that you have to drag twice as many nuggets to the craft hall. Furthermore, only 2 tin deposits are easily accesible whereas 3 iron deposits are relativly easy to acces thus bronze is much harder to get than iron and the value for bronze should thus be higher, I therfore suggest that two ingots of bronze is obtaind from 1 copper ingot and 1 tin ingot. Instead of the 1 ingot you get now.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Changing exp yields from crafting
« on: January 09, 2006, 01:47:00 am »
In view of the latest update making crafting more time consuming due to the lower number of items that can be crafted per batch and the generally higher difficulty due to the removal of recipes with high exp to resources ratio (I noticed that the spell components were removed from tinkering, I couldn't find them at least. don't know if other changes have been implemented). This means that new crafters don't have the benefits the rest of us had when we started crafting and gaining higher level has in any case become harder. However layonara economy is dependent on the existence of low mid and high level crafters, low level crafters to supply low level characters mid level to supply mid and so on. Therefore I suggest that crafting should yield more adventuring exp. perhaps 2, 3 or 4 times as much adventuring exp as it does today. Thus encouraging people to start crafting.

Besides that I would suggest that crafting trivial things generates 1 exp both crafting and adventuring, similar to the 1 exp one gets for killing a trivial/effortless monsters. which would give you just a little bit for your efforts. If this can't be implemented i would suggest that each time crafting is successful you gain 1 exp.

These changes would ensure that new crafters would have a benefit the rest of us hadn't it will take longer for them to reach high levels but they will get more adventuring exp thus balancing the changes.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / deposists of sand and clay
« on: January 06, 2006, 07:48:00 am »
After the update digging has become very difficult, I have an avarage of 1 lump/bag per deposit meaning that i got 24 bags of sand by digging all deposists in the blood desert. I think this is VERY low compared to the above 100 bags of sand I could get on a similar trip before the update.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / More mangled metals from weapon crafting
« on: December 27, 2005, 02:51:00 am »
When you craft armors you recieve half the ingots you use (rounded down) as mangled metals when you fail crafting. but when you craft weapons you recieve 1 mangled metal no matter how many ingots you use. Which seems a bit unlogical since it must be as easy to recycle metals from armor crafting as from weapon crafting. Since weapon crafting is one of the most dfficult crafts to master I don't think this small change would alter the system very much, but it will of course make the life of the weapon crafter a bit easier.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Dawsons book of evolution tag
« on: December 14, 2005, 03:14:00 am »
Is there any reason why Dawsons book is tagged as a quest item, I have never seen anyone use it in game, except someone using it when he was crafting. The reason I ask is that I would like to get rid of mine but i can't. I know that I can ask a GM ingame but I just thought that the GM team had better things to do. Hence removing the tag would be a help to all.

Since monsters can't hurt each other they can now use "cone of cold", "fire ball" etc. without damaging their fellows. If a player throws one of these spells they do however damage everyone, making them useless in many situations. This seems unlogical to me, all spellcasters spells should have the samme effect. Since the monsters can't start hurting each other due to the AI I suggest that the monster spells are changed to single or enemy target spells, e.i. "cone of cold" is replaced by "ball lightning", "fireball" is replaced by "flame arrow". This way all spells would have the same function for all spellcasters.

I know that this might alter the balance a little, but most parties are protected against magic anyway, so whether it is the one type of spells or the other won't have much impact, as I see it. The only thing that will be affected is the balance between parties with and without spellcasters (divine or magic) in favor of parties without spellcasters, but the parties with spellcaster are much more powerfull anyway so people will still try to find a spellcaster before going anywhere. I don't know how much programming this would take it is just something that has been on my mind for a long time, and I had to get it out.

General Discussion / Bring the cleric
« on: November 23, 2005, 09:04:00 am »
In the implossion thread Pankoki stated that layonara shouldn't become a "bring the cleric" game, but as I see it layonara is a bring the cleric or spellslinger (with good buffs) game. Not that i blame anyone or point fingers, I just think that it is a natural result of having a low magic world. Low magic worlds are per definition bring a buffing spellslinger game. If NWN singleplayer was low magic many of the clases would stand little chance of surviving it.

For instance a figther type like Skarp has little chance of surviving on places on dregar without buffs, even when he fights other figther types he needs lots of healing potions and the help from the shield amulet and helmet of armor II in order to survive. And it doesn't help to bring bards, thiefs, figthers, AA's. E.g. yesterday we went to dregar Skarp (14 barb), Geir (10 bard 5 skald), abigail (11 thief), angela (thief/figther 11), Ayla (bard 5, cleric 9 she is not a good buffing spellslinger eventhough she is a cleric), Jaccri (ranger/wizard/AA 19), and we had problems in all fights we had. But then Rolf (cleric 17) joined the party we started cutting through our enemies like butter.

The same thing applies for areas on Mistone Skarp cannot go to the battle fens without the help of a spellslinger, "hammer of gods" would stun him and he would see a quick death. But is "his bestest of friends" Rolf with him the two of them will slaugther every troll they meet.

My point isn't that this is wrong I am just stating what i see as a fact, because i like to call things by their true name.

Futhermore, we are often asked to spend more time on Dregar, and I would really like to but I can only go when I can find a good spellslinger of some sort that can buff me sufficiently to survive. So if more should go to Dregar it should either be safer (like Mistone where all roads are safe and you can go anywhere except through broken forest safely) or give PCs sligthly better eqiupment, e.g. iron armors and shield are +2 instead of +1.

Just my 2 cents...

General Discussion / Half-Giant question
« on: November 21, 2005, 01:16:00 am »
I meet Roxx a Half-Giant in Hlint and was surprised to see that he didn't look like the rest of the half-giants he was ven able to costumize his equipment. I asked him how this was possible and he told me that he was a human with a half-giant subrace, whereas everywhere i have looked on the forum the half-giant is listed as a half-orc subrace.

So my question is simply are we allowed to choose whether we want to build half-giants on top of a human or half-orc or are there any rules on the subject? Just being able to costumize equipment is enough for me to chose the human-half-giant combo anyday.

Fixed Bugs / death scene revisited
« on: November 17, 2005, 12:18:00 am »
This is not really a bug but...

When Jacc had his first perma death I was far from him and i didn't realize what had happened bacause all i saw was the camera suddently loooking at me from directly above and then slowly sliding down. Iwas simply to far away from jacc to see him or the demon. I first saw he demon as he logged in againand i was standing next to him. I don't know if anything can be done so all party member can see the death scene if they are in normal range of sight.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Permanent War effort collection office
« on: November 15, 2005, 04:46:00 am »
When i craft i like to craft with some sort of purpose and not just to get better and throw the things i craft away. So in order to have a pupose it would be nice if one could go to a war effort collection ask them what is needed and produce that for them similarly to the earlier quest in the craft houses only that these don't give exp nor gold just safety for the communety :). Or it could just be another pawnbroker instead this one wouldn't give you ridicules amounts of gold but thanks instead. But in any case the efforts should be registered somewhere have an impact on the war effort perhaps.

Just some thoughts.
