As Daylight Savings approaches
« on: March 10, 2007, 12:56:26 am »
Just a gentle reminder to the community that day light savings is approaching us which will no doubt cause it's usual chaos.  I know I for one get confused by it!  :)
I believe most areas of America go Daylight savings in the early hours of this coming Sunday morning which will change the present relations to GMT as follows...
EST will become EDT and switch from GMT -5 to GMT -4
PST will become PDT and switch from GMT -8 to GMT -7
Then, just to be even more confusing on Sunday 25th of March the UK will switch to BST, Europe will switch to their daylight savings and AEST will become AEDT.
Europe will switch from GMT +1 to GMT +2
AEST will become AEDT and switch from GMT +11 to GMT +10 (they go back rather than forward)
  Now.....for the really confusing bit!
The UK will switch to BST which is GMT +1 BUT as London is the home to the Greenwich Meridian the times often listed for London may STILL be in GMT even though the rest of the country is at GMT +1
  So....
EDT will be GMT -4 but BST -5
PDT will be GMT -7 but BST -8
Europe will be GMT +2 but BST +1
AEDT will be GMT +10 but BST +9

Please, please try to remember when scheduling or attending events that the time listed for London MAY NOT be the time for the rest of the UK.
As a disclaimer....I have done my best to make sure these time differences are all correct but on the off chance I made a mistake....I'm only human.....honest  :p
I'm going to go lie down in a very dark room now as that hurt!

AEDT? is Australian time? yes?  They are on daylight savings now as it is their summer currently.  They should fall back, right?

We should have something like Layonara standard time posted in the same place as the other clocks.  It could remain a constant for quest times and stay unchanged through Daylight Savings.  Quests could be posted in this standard time and then people could just refer to it on the website themselves and it would eliminate this twice a year confusion.  I suppose it is not that big a deal but I throw the idea out there.

I agree whole heartedly on a LST (layo standard time). It would greatly help, especially for sign ups for quests and such. It would help my brain alot!
    Lets hear it for LST!!!

Okay, I dub it Great Moraken's Time, we will use GMT to always speak of this time and it will coincide exactly with Greenwich Meridian Time.

[satire recommenced]
But... but... but... Moraken wants the farmers to have more daylight in the summer and so he wants to change the hours in the summer!  and that leaves me where I started... Man this is a tough world!

daylight saving time is all about saving the daylight. Every year, a bit of it dies, and so the government acted on this by instituing to save daylight. A program costing billions of dollars was created, and with help from citizens like you, we are slowing bringing back daylight from the brink of extinction. Remember, without us, there wouldn't be daylight!
